Rocky Mountain District Key Club

Rocky Mountain District (RMD) Key Club: Call to Convention 2014 Hey, Key Clubbers of the RMD! Are you interested in stepping out of your shell and meeting new friends? Want to learn more about service, fundraising, parliamentary procedure, and dancing Key Club-style? How about taking part in a 300person service project with members of Key Club, Builder’s Club, Circle K, and Kiwanis? This is your chance! All members are invited to attend the Rocky Mountain District Key Club Convention, April 4-6, 2014 at the Sheraton Denver West Hotel! At Once Upon a DCON 2014, you will have the opportunity to attend student-led forums that you can use to improve yourself, your club, and your community, as well as develop your knowledge of fundraising, service, and the Kiwanis family. One of the most important parts of convention involves electing executive board members for the upcoming Key Club year. As a member, you will have the opportunity to hear candidate speeches, ask questions of the candidates – some goofy, some serious – and to, with your club, cast your vote for district and international offices. This year, for the first time in the history of the Rocky Mountain District, DCON will feature a convention-wide service project. Key Clubbers will cut plastic grocery bags into yarn, creating “plarn,” which will then be shipped and made into clean birthing mats for mothers in Uganda! This will, of course, happen while rocking out to motivating music. Don’t forget to pack your business casual and business professional outfits to wear for the weekend! My personal favorite part of convention, the dance on Saturday night, is casual, so bring your Key Club swag and get ready to dance the night away! Check www.rmdkeyclub.org for information about applying for awards at DCON, which will be given at the Talent and Awards Ceremony on Saturday night. Any member will be able to to compete in the Talent Show and the Oratory Contest, auditions for which will be held on Friday night. I also encourage you to apply for individual and club awards such as Single Service, Distinguished Club, and Scrapbook awards! Please check www.rmdkeyclub.org for more key information about our Keynote Speaker, the dress code, forums, running for office, promo videos, and other important convention documents, too! DCON is an amazing opportunity to grow your communication, leadership, and service skills. DCON helped me find my passion, and I would not be where I am today if I had not attended DCON my freshman year. You will truly come away from the experience with a new passion for service and hundreds of new friends from around Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and New Mexico! In this packet you will find copies of the Registration Form, Medical Release Form, and Code of Conduct. Each participant needs to fill out all forms. Notice a new addition to the registration that gives all freshman students a discount on quad occupancy rooms! Send all forms to the District Administrator, Dave Harris. Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, your District Convention Chair, at emilysharp.rmd@gmail.com or 804-868-0683, or our District Administrator, Dave Harris, at RMDKCAd@aol.com or 720-341-5064 with any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting each of you at District Convention 2014! Sincerely, Emily Sharp, RMD Convention Chair
