Hi, I am Richard, the Creative Director and Head Photographer at SALVO Magazine. First , thanks for reading our premier issue A SALUTE TO FASSION. This first issue has

been a

long time in the making. As a photographer, I have

often thought of

starting a magazine, but the time and work involved deterrent.. I was not lazy . . . Just realistic. I am a

was always a visual kinnda guy and

writing is not my strongest suit, but finally I said the hell with it, and decided to give it a go. So please bear with me as SALVO grows and comes into its own. In this issue, I am very exited to introduce most of you to the designs and photography of Holger Sommer, a native of Krefeld, Germany, who is now based in Munich. Oddly enough, or maybe not in today’s world of social media, I met Holger through Pinterest. I had just signed up and his boards immediately caught my eye,. Check them out if you have time at http://pinterest.com/holgersommer/. Make sure you check out his work and interview in the first editorial of this issue “Farben Des Litchs.” I’m sure you will enjoy it. The Artist Spotlight this month is Carly Ryan. Another person I have yet to meet in person, but one I hope to work with in the near future. Carly is based in Los Angeles and does wonderful work and she has been very understanding as I try my best to break into the LA market. Check her out in this issue, and if you are in LA or working there, give her a try. Last, but certainly not least, I w0uld like to introduce you to several amazing artists I met and worked with here and in Atlanta, GA. Jade is a wonderful person and model. She was on time, worked hard and I could not have asked for a harder working model. On the “Rendezvous” editorial, I worked with Sav Wood (makeup), Jennifer Sutton (stylist), Shannon Hayward (asst. stylist), Amber Ybarra and Maurice Chevalier (models), and Alex Justino (retouching). Thanks to these people the photographs were amazing. I could not

Have asked for anything more. For “Gotta Dance Atlanta,” over the past several years, I had the opportunity to work with many of the dancers and instructors there. They brought their own cloths to each shoot, but they certainly prove that it’s not just the cloths you wear but how you wear them that counts. What an amazing group of guys and girls. Well I have rambled on long enough but before I leave you to the rest of the issue. I would like to than you, the reader, for taking the time to flip though SALVO. I hope you enjoy what we have to offer and I hope to you catch us next month. I have a trip to LA planned to visit my son and do some shoots and maybe make a small photo documentary. Ciao Richard

The pictures for this spread were shot for the first RMP Calendar. Jade made the cover and four other pages, but there were so many great shots. It was hard to pick five, so I thought it only right to include them here. Cloths were provided by the model and she did her own hair & makeup. But Jade has such a natural beauty that she didn’t need much makeup and the jean shorts and bikini were perfect for the rural location. We shot outside in a creek bed and old barn. The creek water was cold and the barn floors and walls were falling apart and none too safe, but Jade never complained. She was a trooper and we had a blast. I hope you enjoy the pictures :-)

Holger Sommer Born in the Krefeld, the Silk City, Holger discovered as a child his love for materials, from which they made clothing. A short time after graduating high school, Holger attended the Lessons in Trade and Industry. Upon completion, as a Master Tailor with Accomplishments in German Craft, he decided to bring his own fashion into the world. Inspired by art and film and a love for others to look good. Holger is constantly working on new ideas and seeing that men and women can be ruthless and still look wonderful. Most important to him is the clarity of expression and not a bauble, colors may be . . . Nevertheless, he loves a simple black. Rules are thrown to the winds and classic outfits are interpreted as new. This creates a look that makes you look good. The Photography Interest in photography started in Holger’s youth, at the time shooting film with a Minolta XD7. Since then it has become a hobby that he does not want to miss. Getting material together for his first website, his love has developed into its own image. Holger is available for fashion, male nudes, architecture, and nature photography. If you are interested in working with him, please contact him.

Interview with Holger Sommer: Where do your design inspirations come from: I am an observer who can see in all colors and lines and put them into my sense of shapes and compositions. I love clarity in things; I do not like too many frills and when the "frills" appear too clear Ich bin ein Beobachter--- sehe Linien und Farben in allem und setze diese in mein Gefühl von Formen und Compositionen um, ich liebe Klarheit in den Sachen zuviel Geschnörkel mag ich nicht und wenn dann soll das „Geschnörkel „ auch klar aussehen.

What makes your designs unique and special: My feeling for colors and shapes and the ability to "old with new" re-assemble. My role model is . . . A Japanese ink drawing where "one stroke" tells a whole story. This is the effect I strive for in my recent work: to add a single stroke of "elegance.” Whether the garment are suits or casual wear, it does not matter. Mein Gefühl für Farben und Formen und die Fähigkeit „Altes mit Neuem“ neu zusammenzusetzen. … Mein Vorbild ist die japanische Tuschezeichnung wo mit „nur einem Strich“ eine ganze Geschichte erzählt wird. Dies setzte ich in meinen arbeiten um---in den letzten Jahren ist eine „Eleganz“ hinzugekommen, die meine Arbeiten ausmacht, dabei ist es egal ob es sich um Anzüge oder Casual handelt.

Are all your cloths hand crafted: Yes

What is your favourite material: My favourite material is real wool and cotton followed by Viscose Jersey

What is new in the fashion that excites and inspires you: More and more men also wear fashionable things and you no longer want to be dressed so monotonous. Inspired by models such as "David Beckham" you become bolder . . . A man wears and displays “color.” Other things that inspire me can be the chirping of birds in the morning, or even a photo that I see, or a moment of everyday life that touches my soul. I'm always looking for "the line" during the work. Only when I have the feeling that "this line" it is . . . Do I see it as finished.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years: in 5 years? ... To care for the admirers who like and purchase my garments. To provide films with "Fashion Design" ---In which, "People look really good." Have a few shops, where the people buy things. To stay true to oneself!! Mir selber treu bleiben!

Men’s Apparel Sizing and Guide Be it buying your apparel online or offline, size is the first thing we keep in mind while making purchases for men. Be it a formal wear, casual wear, sportswear or any other type of clothing you want to move on with- sizing and fit matters the most. We often see people making mistakes in selecting the perfect fit and sizing of apparel to suit their body type, so here is Shopclues with some tips on how to measure your body and get the clothing that fits you perfectly and enhances your personality. 1.

Collar: Measure around the base line of neck where your shirt fits perfectly. Make sure there is no suspended space between the tape and neck.

2.

Chest: Place the tape exactly below your armpits and measure around the fullest part of your chest. For better results, in hale naturally.

3.

Back: Measure across the top curve of your shoulder from one edge to another. Make sure you’re taking the curved line and not straight one.

4.

Sleeve: Keep arm at your side and get someone to measure from upper shoulder tip to the hem of your outer arm.

5.

Waist: Measure around the fullest natural waistline.

6.

Inside Leg: Measure inside leg from crotch till the ankle bone.

7.

Outside Leg: Start measuring from your natural waistline up till the hem of your trouser.

8.

Centre Back Length: Begin from the center of the collar line to your natural waistline.

9.

Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips while standing straight in your natural posture.

10.

Shoes: Feet should be usually measured using profess sional device like ‘Brannock’ or ‘Ritz Stick’. Either you borrow it from your nearest local shoe shop or get your feet measured perfectly by them.

Once you are finished with measuring your body accurately, the nest step is- what kind of apparel suits you as per your body appearance – whether it’s a

shirt, t-shirt, formal shirt or a funky t-shirt. Let us suggest you some Dos and Don’ts according to your Body type to make you look your best. Muscular Men: If you’re a brawny man having that perfect ‘V’-Shaped body then avoid wearing extra boxy clothes. Your perfect outfit is a t-shirt or a shirt that narrows at lower stomach area - waist. You can also flaunt your perfect body shape by avoiding multiple-layered or puffy clothes. Thin: We have a solution for all those who are often addressed as thin built or slim. Look for shirts or t-shirts that are slim fit and go for turtle necks and crewed necks. Go for outfit with spread collars as they help your chest look wider. Avoid ‘V’ neckline as it shows off thin features. Chunky: To look taller and slimmer, you best pick should be vertical stripes for shirts as well as trousers. Try to go for V-necklines as these make you look slimmer. Wear at-least waist length Shirts and T-shirts and avoid short shirts or t-shirts. Also avoid and kind of boxy designing on hips, it would make you look even shorter. Pear-Shaped: Are you among so-called pear-shaped men? Don’t worry; ShopClues is here to help you out. Opt for darker colors while selecting trousers, such as black, navy blue or brown and boot-cut pants make you look slimmer from thighs and hips. Avoid wearing skinny outfits with jackets that end at your hips, as they flatter the pear shaped curves. Instead replace those with jackets or t-shirts with apparel that reach slight down. Big: Wear pointed-collar shirts or t-shirts that turns focus more towards your face. Opt for 3 -button blazers or overcoats instead of 1- and 2-button ones; as these makes your body look elongated and help you look taller and thinner. Keep the top button undone to help you move freely; also standing straight and wearing pants with slightly longer hems will make you look taller. Avoid wearing turtle necks or crewed necks that almost make your neck disappear, making you look shorter and thus bigger.

Quick And Easy Beauty Tips Author: Edith Lenny Easy Tips to highlight your beauty Makeup can make any one look and feel gorgeous; it does however need to be applied correctly. When applying your makeup there are a few thing that you need to know before you start purchasing or using certain products, such as your skin type, skin texture, skin tone etc. Now that you are ready to look and feel great here are some quick and easy makeup tips you may want to try out next time you want to look stunning and gorgeous. 1. Beautiful Bold Reds - a classic feminine red lip stick …worn correctly can make you look stunning, the key success in creating this look is to make sure that the lips stand out above all else, making sure that your eye makeup is as natural and minimal as can be, almost nude. When choosing your red tone ensure you match it to your skin color and complexity… remember … red is not just red!!! There are pink-reds, orange- reds and blue -reds. If you have a pink undertone in your skin it would be wise to avoid pink-reds, if your skin is more yellow in colour avoid orange- reds and if you are lucky enough to have a neutral skin tone… go all out ( unless you have your hair dyed some absurd colour !) 2. Eye lashes can create that extra punch that will make your eyes stand out. If you have inherited big beautiful eye lashes then all you need is a little extra eye liner and mascara to achieve the desired look. For us unlucky ones with smaller eyelashes don’t worry, you can create the illusion of bigger, bolder lashes by faking it! For a natural look, use a strip lash and cut it in half, apply to the outer corner of the eye. This will create a beautiful eye shape as well as a subtle volume and length. For a bolder look use the full strip, just make sure you cut it to size and always cut from the outer corner. 3. Blush Color – Blush is one thing that really needs to be selected carefully. The purpose of blush is to add some color and warmth to your face to make you look a bit more alive not to mention 3d! (For extra definition of the cheek bones a bronzer will help with contouring) If you have chosen the wrong shade of blush, it may in fact do the opposite for you, bringing your face down and making it look dull and lifeless. Also remember that blush is applied to the apple of the cheeks, don’t be tempted to learn your makeup tips from nana who still applies her blush in a big pink stripe down her cheeks ! 4. Creating a Smokey eye CAN BE EASY! .This sexy glamorous eye technique can be achieved with a bit of practice and some good brushes. If this is your first time attempting a smoky eye, try starting out with a shade other than black! Once you master the skill of blending ( with a good blending brush you can then move on to a darker shade. It also might be a good

idea to do your eyes first and your foundation last to avoid ‘fall out’ underneath the eyes, which can be hard to remove without a good makeup remover. I know professional makeup artists who still use this technique of applying foundation! Finally, a good guide to colors is choose a mid-tone to cover the mobile lid (whole eyelid) a deeper shade for the contour ( the socket line of your eyelid) and a highlighter for the space in between your socket and your eyebrow. I recommend checking out Jane - Wedding Makeup Artist Sydney, one of the top Bridal Makeup Artist today! IN MY OPINION: “NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS SKINNY FEELS” By R. Mellinger Back in 2009, Kate Moss was asked what mottos she lived by and she replied: “There are loads of mottos. There’s ‘Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels’. That’s one of them.” Not long ago I came across this picture of Kate Moss and posted it on my Facebook. As expected, I received comments from both sides of the issue: some for and some against. Several aspiring models and a few others were supportive (go figure :-) One person (as expected) brought up eating disorders and the harm they cause your body (2x duh!). –we all know easting disorders harm your body. But I don’t think this comment is about heating healthy . . . or not eating healthy. It’s about how we choose to look and how we choose to live. I can’t speak for Ms. Moss, but I can for myself. Several years ago, I was 20 pounds heavier that I wanted and I decided to change. I didn’t eat pasta for a year, cut out most bread, ate lean meats and lots of salads and fresh vegetables. Did I cheat, sure who doesn’t. Did I learn to appreciate feeling hungry instead of stuffed . . . hell yes I did. Did a quit smoking . . . hell no. Did I loose the weight . . . I sure did. And I have kept it off. Was it healthy for me? Maybe not. Why? You might ask. The answer is simple: I liked the way I looked thinner and more muscular. I felt alive, lighter, and more active. I liked not being embarrassed to go shirtless. One night I even ran naked down a hotel hallway because I lost a bet. I would never have done that were I heavier and not in shape. Actually getting undressed in public for this hallway run caught the attention of a very hot girl and we dated for years after this incident. Would I suggest everyone, or even anyone, follow the same diet ?

No, I would not. But would I do it again? You bet I would . . . in a heartbeat. Bottom line . . . I liked how I look and how I felt skinnier: I was happier, I was more active . . . and most importantly I liked how it felt when I when I put on jeans that were once too tight. Am I wrong for thinking and feeling this way? Maybe in YOUR OPINION . . . but not mine. I remember seeing Charles Barkley in his 1993 Nike commercial, “I am not a role model,” and I think the same applies here. Kate Moss is a model. That’s how she makes a living. . . she is not a role model, and I surly am not anyone’s role model. People choose their roles models for many reasons, most for very personal reasons. But these role models are just people. Maybe high profile people, but people just the same. No one is perfect and no matter how hard we may try, we can never be anyone but ourselves. Perhaps Sir Charles said it best, “ . . . not many people can be like we are. Kids can’t be Michael Jorden.” Most girls can’t be Kate Moss, no matter how thin they become. Being thin is not what makes Kate Moss or any model successful. It’s their drive, their ambition, and sometimes it’s the luck of being the right person at the right time. If you don’t want to live by the motto “Nothing Tastes As Good As Skinny Feels,” then don’t. It’s your life. And if you don’t want your kids living by this motto, then be a parent and teach your kids to live by a different motto. But as parents please remember, your kids are their own people and they may choose a different path to follow. We all have our opinions, if you want to voice your opinion regarding this topic, write to me at rrmellin@gmail.com.

Rendezvous was originally scheduled to be Maurice and another model, but she couldn't make it that day, so Amber stepped in at the last moment. Jennifer Sutton got great cloths from Enki Mikaye , Cleah Murray, and her own collection. Sav Wood did hair & makeup and Alex Justino did the retouching. The whole thing was shot at the Dekalb-Peachtree Airport in Atlanta, GA. Maurice had access to the plane and most of the shots were done with natural light inside the hanger. The shot that became the cover was the first look we did, and Amber jumped right onto the plane wing and did her thing,. She couldn’t wear heals on the wing so she had to cover her bare feet with the gown and stand on her tip toes to make it look as if she was wearing heals . . . gotta do what you gotta do . The couple shots would have been a disaster, but the models pulled it off . Amber and Maurice had just met and were not a couple. She and I had been dating for a few years at the time and Maurice had a girlfriend. Not exactly the perfect situation, but everyone did their part. I directed, Maurice took the male lead and Amber was the perfect female compliment: they were a very convincing couple. It’s not cheating if it’s for the picture ;-)
