Youngstown State Tidbits - Robert Morris dropped its third straight game to the Penguins but still owns a 9-7 (.563) edge in the all-time series ... Ten of the 16 meetings in the all-time series between RMU and YSU have been decided by 10 points or less, including six by five points or less ... Junior forward Billy Giles grabbed a career-high nine rebounds ... YSU shot 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from the field in the second half, the sixth time in eight games in 2015-16 an opponent has shot at least 50 percent from the floor after halftime ... Robert Morris shot a season-high 83.3 percent (5-for-6) at the free-throw line ... Youngstown State outscored RMU, 26-14, in points in the paint and 18-9 in points off turnovers. Wicked Garden - For the seventh time in eight games to start the 2015-16 campaign, senior guard Rodney Pryor earned team-high honors in scoring @ Youngstown State (12/2/15) as RMU wrapped up a five-game road trip. Despite being held scoreless for the first 14 minutes, Pryor scored a game-high 20 points, including 13 in the second half. Pryor shot 5for-8 from the field after halftime, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Pryor leads the Colonials in scoring at 19.5 points per game and is off to the best offensive start in school history through eight games. Former forward A.J. Jackson (2003-08) averaged 19.4 points per contest for Robert Morris in the first eight games of the 2006-07 campaign. Pryor currently ranks second in the Northeast Conference in scoring. Interstate Love Song - Sophomore forward Elijah Minnie set an RMU single-season school record for blocks in his rookie campaign last year by recording 36 rejections, and he continues to protect the rim early in the 2015-16 season. Minnie finished with a pair of blocks @ Youngstown State (12/2/15) and through eight games this year has already posted 15 rejections. Minnie currently leads the Northeast Conference in blocks per game (1.88) and has already accumulated a total of 51 rejections in 40 career contests, an average of 1.28 per game. Army Ants - No member of the Colonials is playing with more confidence right now than junior forward Billy Giles. Giles parlayed a 16-point, seven-rebound performance @ Tennessee Tech (11/27/15) into his first collegiate start in a 67-64 win over Mississippi Valley State (11/28/15). Against the Delta Devils, Giles contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, a block and a pair of steals. After being held scoreless in his first two games in a Robert Morris uniform, Giles has averaged 8.8 points and 6.4 rebounds over his last five games while shooting 60 percent (18-for-30) from the field. Plush - Senior guard Rodney Pryor has picked up where he left off from last season in the early portion of the 2015-16 season. Thanks to a team-high 20 @ Youngstown State (12/2/15) that closed out a five-game road trip, Pryor enters Saturday’s game having reached double figures in scoring in each of his last 18 games dating back to last season. During that stretch, Pryor is averaging an even 20.0 points per contest while converting an average of 2.94 three-pointers per game. Big Empty - A key reason senior guard Rodney Pryor has been able to reach double figures in scoring in each of his last 18 games dating back to last season has been his ability to convert when getting to the free-throw line. Pryor enters Saturday’s game against Oakland leading the Northeast Conference in free-throw percentage, having shot 94.4 percent (17for-18) at the chalk so far this year. During RMU’s five-game road trip, Pryor averaged 19.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 45.7 percent (37-for-81) from the field and was a perfect 9-for-9 at the charity stripe. Days Of The Week - Robert Morris went to overtime for the ninth time under sixth-year head coach Andrew Toole in an 81-71 setback @ New Mexico State (11/24/15). The loss snapped a five-game winning streak under Toole when heading to the extra frame, as RMU’s last overtime loss came in an 85-82 setback @ LIU Brooklyn (3/9/11) in the 2011 NEC Tournament final. Under Toole, Robert Morris is 6-3 (.667) in overtime, including 3-3 (.500) on the road. All-time in the program’s 40-year Division I history, the Colonials own an overall overtime record of 28-25 (.528). Sour Girl - The 2015-16 campaign marks junior guard Kavon Stewart’s second full season as the starting point guard for Robert Morris. He enters Saturday’s game against Oakland with 273 career assists in 72 games, an average of 3.79 per contest. Stewart needs 27 dimes to become the 14th player in program history to eclipse 300 career assists and is 112 dimes short of cracking the top 10 in school history in the category. Stewart is also RMU’s active leader in steals with 99 career thefts.

Heaven & Hot Rods - Senior guard Rodney Pryor is RMU’s active leading scorer with 702 points as the Colonials welcome Oakland to the Charles L. Sewall Center Saturday. Pryor has scored a team-high 156 points in seven games, a year after leading the Colonials with 546 points last season, and he is looking to become the second player in the last three years to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau in just two seasons at RMU. Former guard Karvel Anderson scored 1,123 points in 69 career games from 2012 to 2014. Pryor needs to average 12.9 points over RMU’s final 23 games of the 2015-16 campaign to eclipse 1,000 career points. He would be the fourth player in school history, and third at the Division I level, to score at least 1,000 points playing just two years. Adhesive - RMU has consistently been at the top of the Northeast Conference much of the previous decade in regard to its three-point shooting, and the Colonials have continued that in 2015-16. The Colonials drilled a season-high 11 three-pointers @ Youngstown State (12/2/15), and despite falling, Robert Morris has compiled a record of 33-6 (.846) in six seasons under head coach Andrew Toole when draining at least 10 three-pointers in a game. Kitchenware & Candybars - In search of a secondary scorer behind senior guard Rodney Pryor, sophomore forward Elijah Minnie had a breakthrough offensive performance @ New Mexico State (11/24/15). Minnie paced RMU with a career-high 29 points, shooting 11-for-18 from the field, including a 5-for-10 performance from beyond the arc, while going 2-for-2 at the free-throw line. In four games in the Air Force Classic, Minnie averaged 15.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per contest. Big Bang Baby - Isaiah Still wasted no time coming through in the clutch for Robert Morris in his rookie season, as the freshman guard drilled a three-pointer from the wing with 8.6 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, 67-67, and send the Colonials to overtime @ New Mexico State (11/24/15). RMU eventually fell to the Aggies in the extra frame, 81-71, but it marks the second straight year a true freshman sent a game to overtime with a clutch three-pointer. Last year, former guard Marcquise Reed (2014-15) hit a three-pointer at the end of regulation @ Mount St. Mary’s (1/22/15) in an eventual 63-59 victory. Seven Caged Tigers - Robert Morris has made a habit of climbing out of double-digit deficits under Andrew Toole, and that bore fruit in RMU’s 2015-16 season opener. The Colonials trailed Penn at halftime, 44-28, and faced a 17-point deficit, 51-34, with 14:56 to play before roaring back to grab a 72-71 lead with under four minutes left. It marks the 21st time under Toole the Colonials have erased a double-digit deficit. On 19 of those occasions Robert Morris has earned a victory. Tumble In The Rough - Freshman guard Matty McConnell, who started in RMU’s 2015-16 season opener @ Penn (11/13/15), became just the seventh true freshman to earn a start in his collegiate debut in the program’s 40-year Division I history. McConnell played 34 minutes against the Quakers, supplying seven points, a team-high five assists and a pair of steals. McConnell is also the third true freshman to start his first Division I game under sixth-year head coach Andrew Toole, joining Yann Charles (2010) and Elijah Minnie (2014). Also earning starts in their first collegiate games were Forest Grant (1980), Keith Jones (1995), Jeremy Chappell (2005) and Jonathan Clark (2005). Take A Load Off - Robert Morris head coach Andrew Toole picked up career victory No. 100 thanks to a 67-65 win @ St. Francis Brooklyn (1/24/15). In six seasons leading the Colonials, Tooled has posted an overall record of 111-72 (.607), including a mark of 65-23 (.739) against the Northeast Conference. Toole is just the second head coach in program history to eclipse 100 career wins, joining former head coach Jarrett Durham, who posted an overall record of 157-183 (.462) from 1984 to 1996. Toole is also the fastest to 100 career wins in Northeast Conference history, reaching the plateau in 160 contests. Where The River Goes - Part of following the formula in regard to being successful for RMU over the last nine seasons has been the program’s ability to crash the boards. Since the beginning of 2007-08, Robert Morris owns a record of 130-22 (.855) when the Colonials are even or better in rebounding in a game, including a 125-20 (.862) mark when outrebounding their opponent. In Andrew Toole’s six seasons as head coach, Robert Morris has posted a record of 73-16 (.820) when outrebounding its opponent.

At the heart of the resurgence for Robert Morris since the beginning of the 200708 campaign has been one aspect: Defense. Over the last eight years, the Colonials have held 11 opponents to 45 points or less. The latest team the Colonials held under the mark was Mount St. Mary’s (1/3/15), as RMU earned a 70-45 win over the Mount at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The defensive pressure that Robert Morris has employed over the last eight seasons has allowed the program to post each of its top four totals for largest margin of victory against a Northeast Conference opponent in school history. The Colonials earned a 91-38 victory over Bryant (2/3/11) at the Charles L. Sewall Center to not only establish a new school record in an NEC game but also tie the league mark. The record was originally set when Wagner defeated Sacred Heart, 116-63, on February 22, 2000. In fact, only four games in league annals have been decided by 50 or more points, and RMU owns two of them. Did You Know? Guards Kavon Stewart and Marcquise Reed each recorded 33 steals in 18 league games in 2014-15, tying for leaguehigh honors against Northeast Conference foes with an average of 1.83 steals per game. It marks the first time a student-athlete from RMU paced the league in steals since Velton Jones averaged 2.4 thefts per game in 2011-12.
Lady Picture Show - Robert Morris opened the 2015 Northeast Conference Tournament at the Charles L. Sewall Center with a 91-68 win over No. 7 Wagner (3/4/15) by shooting 53.6 percent (30-for-56) from the field. In six seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, RMU owns a mark of 32-5 (.865) when shooting 50 percent or better from the field, including a mark of 25-1 (.962) against NEC opponents. Broken down against league foes, Robert Morris is 22-1 (.957) in the regular season and 3-0 in the NEC Tournament when converting at least half of its shots. Against non-conference opponents under Toole, RMU is 7-4 (.636) when turning the trick. All In The Suit That You Wear - At the heart of the resurgence of the Robert Morris basketball program since 2007-08 is defense. Despite a 65-58 setback @ Youngstown State (12/2/15) that wrapped up a five-game road trip, RMU has compiled a record of 139-31 (.818) over the last nine seasons when holding their opponent to under 70 points. In six years under Andrew Toole, the Colonials own a mark of 86-23 (.789) when turning the trick. Overall in the last nine years, RMU has held its opponent to under 70 points 59.2 percent (170-of-287) of the time. Unglued - The 2015-16 Robert Morris roster features just three upperclassmen, which includes seniors Rodney Pryor and Aaron Tate and junior Kavon Stewart. Combined, the Colonials entered the 20115-16 season with 224 combined games of experience. Compare that to the beginning of last season, when RMU owned a total of 355 games of experience entering the 2014-15 campaign. Pryor, Tate and Stewart will provide a large bulk of the leadership for the Colonials in 2015-16, and the trio will do that best by playing. Pryor is RMU’s active leader in consecutive games played with 43, while Stewart has appeared in 32 straight contests. Tate, meanwhile, has missed the last five games due to injury. Creep - Thanks to a 66-53 victory over Bryant in the semifinals of the 2015 Northeast Conference Tournament, Robert Morris concluded the 2014-15 season with a record of 10-6 (.625) at the Charles L. Sewall Center. It marked the 10th consecutive year that the Colonials have posted at least 10 wins at home. Since 2005-06, RMU has posted a record of 116-33 (.773) at the Sewall Center. In six seasons at “The Chuck” under head coach Andrew Toole, Robert Morris has compiled a record of 57-18 (.760). Robert Morris is playing its 31st season at the Sewall Center in 2015-16, and overall the Colonials own a record of 269-135 (.666) in the building. Atlanta - Robert Morris was able to seal its first victory in the NCAA Tournament since 1983 in an 81-77 over North Florida (3/18/15) by converting at the free-throw line. The Colonials converted 21 of their 33 attempts (63.6 percent) at the charity stripe against the Ospreys, including 17-for-26 (65.4 percent) in the second half. RMU finished 4-1 (.800) in 2014-15 when visiting the chalk at least 30 times in a game and in six seasons under head coach Andrew Toole has posted a record of 19-4 (.826) when turning the trick. Piece Of Pie - You certainly could say that Robert Morris has a flair for the dramatic. In a 53-52 victory over Central Connecticut (2/14/15) at the Charles L. Sewall Center that wrapped up a two-game homestand, forward Aaron Tate became the latest member of the Colonials to hit a buzzer beater for RMU. Tate scored on a tip-in as time expired to help lift Robert Morris to the win. The Charles L. Sewall Center aka “The Chuck” Robert Morris celebrated its 30th season of playing its home games at the Charles L. Sewall Center in 2014-15. The facility was dedicated in 1985 and named for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989. The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tournament champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of six times in the last 30 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NEC Tournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009. The 2009 NEC Tournament men’s basketball championship game held at the Sewall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fans packed into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St. Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green (2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift the Colonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title. Robert Morris Historical Tidbits In The Beginning - Robert Morris was the first institution to jump directly from the junior college ranks to NCAA Division I. RMU played basketball at the junior college level for 13 seasons from 1963 to 1976, posting a record of 287-58 (.832) under head coach Gus Krop. Krop led the Colonials to a record of 30-1 (.968) in 1968-69 in its sixth season as a junior college program, with its only loss a 79-76 setback to Paducah (Ky.) in the national title game. In his time leading Robert Morris, Krop coached nine All-Americans and also recruited Earl Cureton, a native of Detroit, Mich., who played one season with the Colonials when it was a junior college program (1975-76) as well as the first season of Division I basketball in 1976-77. Half A Century - The 2015-16 campaign marks the 53rd season of intercollegiate basketball at Robert Morris. The Colonials compiled an overall record of 287-58 (.832) in 13 years as a junior college program from 1963 to 1976 and since moving to Division I with the 1976-77 campaign have posted an overall record of 572-587 (.494). Combined, Robert Morris posted a record of 816-610 (.572) over its first 50 years as an intercollegiate program from 1963 to 2013. In honor of 50 years of intercollegiate basketball, Robert Morris enshrined the 1981-82 Colonials, the first squad to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Feb. 15, 2014.
Charter Member - Robert Morris played independently as a Division I program for five seasons before becoming a charter member of the ECAC Metro Conference in 1981, which changed its name to the Northeast Conference in 1988. The Colonials have won eight NEC Tournament titles, the most in league history, and have also appeared in the NCAA Tournament eight times. Robert Morris has won back-to-back NEC Tournament titles on three occasions, including the first two championships in 1981 and 1982. RMU also claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament titles in 1989 and 1990 and again in 2009 and 2010. Dynamic Duo - Led by guards Chipper Harris (1980-84) and Forest “Bay” Grant (1980-84), Robert Morris claimed the first two ECAC Metro Conference Tournament championships in 1981 and 1982. In four seasons, Harris and Grant combined for career totals of 3,434 points, 869 rebounds, 991 assists and 782 steals. Harris served as RMU’s all-time leading scorer with 1,940 points from the conclusion of his career until 1994 and still owns the Robert Morris career record for steals (450), while Grant is the program’s all-time leader in assists (555). The pair helped the ECAC Metro Conference garner its first victory in the NCAA Tournament, as the Colonials upended Georgia Southern, 64-54, in a play-in game at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, in the 1983 NCAA Tournament. Harris was enshrined in the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995, followed by Grant in 1996.
The First Superstar - Don Mackey (1963-65) was the only player in junior college history to score over 1,000 points in his two seasons with the program. A native of Homestead, Pa., Mackey finished his two years with the Colonials by scoring 1,034 points, and his 43 points in a 125-111 win over Walsh Jan. 30, 1965, still stands as the most points scored in a game by a player in a Robert Morris uniform. He went on to finish his collegiate career at Gannon University and was inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Oct. 9, 2010. Mackey is one of nine members of the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame from the junior college ranks, which also includes former All-Americans Perry Johnson (1969), Cleveland Edwards (1969) and Ron Hightower (1971 and 1972).
Walk On The Ocean - Former guard Myron Walker (1990-94) continued RMU’s lineage of stellar guards when he arrived on the scene in the fall of 1990 and was a key part of a 1991-92 squad that claimed the program’s fifth NEC Tournament championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament. In his second year with the program, Walker scored 614 points en route to being named the 1992 NEC Player of the Year, the only sophomore in league history to earn the honor. Walker went on to become the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,965 points and also owns the single-season record for scoring average (20.1 ppg as a senior in 1993-94) and career marks for 20-point scoring games (47) and scoring average (18.7 ppg).
The Twirl - Arguably the best basketball player in school history, in his one season at the Division I level in a Robert Morris uniform Earl “The Twirl” Cureton (1975-77) averaged 17.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in 1976-77. Cureton still owns Robert Morris single-season records for rebounds (274) and rebounding average and is the only player in the program’s Division I history to average a double-double. He transferred to the University of Detroit to continue his Division I career and was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the third round of the 1979 NBA Draft. He went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA, earning a pair of championship rings, one with the 76ers in 1983 and the other with the Houston Rockets in 1994.
Keep On Rockin ... As part of the Air Force Classic, Robert Morris traveled to Las Cruces, N.M., to take on New Mexico State. The home of the Aggies, the Pan American Center, became the 10th arena that the Colonials have played in that has also featured a concert by Pearl Jam since the band’s formation in 1990. Also included is Time Warner Cable Arena (Charlotte, N.C.), the Verizon Center (Washington, D.C.), Rupp Arena (Lexington, Ky.), the Palace at Auburn Hills (Detroit, Mich.), the Prudential Center (Newark, N.J.), Savage Arena (Toledo, Ohio), the Wolstein Center (Cleveland, Ohio), the Bryce Jordan Center (State College, Pa.) and the A.J. Palumbo Center (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
Who Was Robert Morris? Robert Morris, Jr. (January 20, 1734 – May 8, 1806) was a Liverpool-born American merchant and signer of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution. He was elected to the Pennsylvania Assembly, became the Chairman of the Pennsylvania Committee of Safety and was chosen as a delegate to the Second Continental Congress, where he served as chairman of the “Secret Committee of Trade” and as a member of the Committee of Correspondence. From 1781 to 1784, he served as the powerful Superintendent of Finance, managing the economy of the fledgling United States. As the central civilian in the government, Morris was, next to General George Washington, “the most powerful man in America.” His successful administration led to the sobriquet, “Financier of the Revolution.” He was one of Pennsylvania’s original pair of U.S. senators, serving from 1789 to 1795. A look at his legacy: - A portrait of Morris appeared on U.S. $1000 notes from 1862 to 1863 - Morris and Roger Sherman were the only two people to sign all three significant founding documents of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the U.S. Constitution. - The dollar sign ("$") was in common use among private merchants during the middle of the 18th century. It referred to the two columns draped with scrolls on the Spanish milled dollar, which predated the U.S. Dollar. Morris was the first to use that symbol in official documents.
