This manual has been prepared and distributed to ensure the success of our visual identity through consistency of use. Please read the Graphic Standards Manual and adhere to the guidelines. The Robert Morris University Intercollegiate Athletic Department is committed to a uniform brand identity of the Colonial family of graphic logos and typeface usage. In 2006, RMU students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans all had input into the final versions of the logos in the pages that follow. Since that time, these marks have been used time and time again in hundreds of different digital and print applications from apparel to competitive venue markings to signage. They have evolved into a centerpiece of pride for Colonials everywhere around which each has rallied as a sense of value and belonging. The family of logos found in the following pages is for the exclusive use by RMU Intercollegiate Athletics which approves its usage through online applications via a partnership with Learfield Licensing Partners. Please support the Colonials! But please adhere to the guidelines set forth in this manual. By following the rules set forth for the use of this family of logos, Colonial Nation will continue to grow. So too will Colonial Pride! For further information regarding the RMU Graphics Standards or for updates to this manual, please contact the RMU Athletic Department at 412-397-4920.

PRIMARY COLORS Color is one of the most important elements of the Robert Morris University athletic identity system. The colors on the left are the official colors for all of the Robert Morris athletic logos. If these colors are not available the logos should be printed in all black. Logos may also be used in all white on either black, RMU Blue or RMU Red backgrounds. Logos may be used in all white on other dark color backgrounds only if previously approved (see page 5). RMU athletic logos are never to be reversed.** RMU BLUE (in lieu of which use Pantone 282 Process Equivalent: 100c 72m 0y 56k)

RMU RED (in lieu of which use Pantone 187 Process Equivalent: 0c 91m 72y 23k)

SUPPORT COLORS

RMU GRAY/SILVER (in lieu of which use Pantone 421 or Pantone 877 Process Equivalent: 0c 0m 0y 27k)

* PantoneÂŽ is a registered trademark of Pantone, Inc. The colors shown on this page and throughout this manual are not intended to match the PANTONE Color Standards. For the PANTONE Color Standards, refer to the current edition of the PANTONE Color Formula Guide 1000. **See individual artwork guidelines.

In addition to the primary colors shown above, the RMU athletic identity system utilizes black, RMU Gray/Silver and white as important support colors. White helps to add contrast to RMU Blue and RMU Red. RMU Silver is preferred but RMU Gray or its process equivalent can be substituted when necessary. When the official colors are not available, most RMU athletic logos and art may be printed in all black. Logos may also be used in all white on either black, RMU Blue or RMU Red backgrounds. Logos may be used in all white on other dark color backgrounds only if previously approved (see page 5). RMU athletic logos are never to be reversed.**

The RMU Colonial marks were designed to create a consistent brand for the athletic program. At the same time there are many variations to chose from so that there should be a design compatible to any application. The preferred logo is the primary mark shown largest on this page. If you choose to use a different logo it should be one of the marks that feature either the words “Robert Morris” or the letters “RMU”. The wordless logos are for use only when either the school name or monogram have been previously presented. For example, the head alone design can be used inside a brochure if a logo or words identifying the university has been used on the cover. Or the upper torso Colonial can be used on a garment if the university name or monogram is identified in a prominent place. All artwork and variations are available in Macintosh and PC digital file formats. For information on using the logos with different words in the banners see page 8.

Frequently it may be desirable to place the athletic identity logos on a field of color. As shown in the examples on the right, all of the artwork has been created with a built-in outline shape that allows it to work clearly on any background. For this reason it is not necessary to alter the logos before placing them on any color, photograph or complex background. This is true of the full color, 2 color, the all RMU Blue and the all Black logos. The RMU logos should never be reversed. All RMUlogos may be used in all white on either black,RMU Red or RMU Blue backgrounds (or on other dark color backgrounds with prior approval). The all white version of the RMU logos should never be used on light color backgrounds (such as RMU Gray/Silver) or any complex backgrounds. It is never permissible for any photograph, pattern or complex background to show through logos (as in the example at the far right of the bottom row). * All White logos may only used on either black, RMU Red or RMU Blue backgrounds (or on other dark color backgrounds with prior approval).

Each of the Robert Morris University athletic logos has an established safe zone. This safe zone is intended to maintain the logo’s integrity and to avoid visual confusion. No other type or graphic element (including folds, trims or edges) should fall within the safe zone shown. The safe zone for most Robert Morris athletic logos is equal to one sixth of the height of the logo (A). The only exceptions are the two type only wordmarks. The safe zone for them is equal to one fourth of the height of the logo (B). This safe zone spacing is uniform on all sides of the logo. See the examples at right for each athletic logo’s specific safe zone.

FULL COLOR RETAIL GRAPHICS If the fabric color matches one of the official colors exactly (RMU Blue, RMU Red, RMU Gray or white), the fabric can show through in place of printing that color. If the fabric color does not match any official color, all 4 official colors must be used to print the logo.

ONE AND TWO COLOR RETAIL GRAPHICS When using logos on apparel, the art may print in any of the official colors (RMU Blue, RMU Red, RMU Gray/ Silver, black or white) as long as there is sufficient contrast with the fabric color. The two color RMU athletic logos are a great cost saving alternative to the full color logos and they will work on any color of fabric.
