Monmouth (3-1) @ Robert Morris (0-4) Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Joe Walton Stadium (3,000) - Moon Township, Pa.
Radio: ESPN 970 AM (Chris Shovlin - play-by-play & Brian Cleary - color) Audio on the internet at: www.970espn.com / Live Video: www.necfrontrow.com Top Story - The Robert Morris University football team returns home for the first time in over a month this Saturday, Oct. 4, as it closes its non-conference schedule with former NEC foe Monmouth at Joe Walton Stadium at 3:00 p.m. The Colonials are coming off of a bye and hopeful that the time away will allow them to put forth their best effort of the year thus far as the school welcomes back alumni on Homecoming Weekend. Junior Derik Abbott is slated to make his first-career start at quarterback Saturday and would become the 21st Colonial, and 12th on offense, to earn his first start this season. Abbott would become the 18th distinct Colonial in program history to start a game under center. Senior Duane Mitchell needs five receptions to move into third and 10 catches to move into second in all-time receptions at Robert Morris. With non-conference opponents finished after the Hawks, Robert Morris will play six Northeast Conference games over the final seven weeks of the season, a stretch that will begin next week when RMU travels to defending league champion Sacred Heart. Quick Stat of the Afternoon - When Robert Morris takes the field Saturday against Monmouth, it will be doing so as part of the University’s Homecoming festivities. That fact should bode well for RMU as the Colonials are 15-5 (.750) all-time in games played as a part of Homecoming. This will be the first daytime kickoff on Homecoming for Robert Morris since 2010 after it played at night each of the past three years. A loss on Homecoming last year snapped a three-game Colonial winning streak as part of the event. In 1994, the first year that Robert Morris fielded a football team, the Colonials hosted Monmouth on Homecoming and came away with a 26-19 victory. Robert Morris also played the Hawks on Homecoming in 2002 and won 15-10 that year. After RMU captured blowout victories on Homecoming in 2010 and 2011, the last two years have featured extremely close games as the outcomes were undecided in the final minute. Saturday's Opponent - Robert Morris has met Monmouth in 19 of its previous 20 seasons of existence, with the lone exception being 2001, but this is the last scheduled meeting between the former conference rivals. The Colonials hold a 10-9 (.526) edge in the all-time series. RMU won six of the first eight meetings before dropping five of the next six to the Hawks. Robert Morris then rebounded by winning three straight games, but the Hawks have claimed the two most recent matchups, one on each team's campus. For more information on the all-time series against Monmouth, including the last game recap, please see page four of today’s game notes. On This Date (Oct. 4) in Robert Morris Football History - Robert Morris has previously played three times on October 4, but this year will mark the first-ever non-conference contest on this date. RMU won both prior home games in its history on October 4 while dropping its lone road affair. Robert Morris’ most recent victory on this date came in the 2003 season against Stony Brook. Tyjuan Massey (2002-05) opened the game with a bang by registering a 94-yard kickoff return for touchdown. The game settled from there as the teams only combined for nine more points before half, giving RMU a three-point edge at intermission. The Seawolves took their only lead early in the third quarter, but RMU responded with a touchdown drive fewer than five minutes later. The teams traded TD’s late in the fourth quarter, but the Colonials recovered an onside kick in the final minute to seal it. Sam Dorsett (1999-2003) ran for 102 yards in the victory while three distinct Colonials forced turnovers to help RMU win the turnover battle at +2.

2014 Robert Morris Football Game Notes vs. Monmouth (10/4/14) - Page 3
Head Coach John Banaszak First Season - Eastern Michigan ’75 John Banaszak became the second head football coach in Robert Morris University history in December 2013. He served as an assistant coach and assistant head coach for the Colonials for 11 consecutive years prior to taking over the top spot. Banaszak was selected as Coach-In-Waiting in January 2012, allowing for a simple transition following the 2013 campaign. At the end of the 2013 season, he was named as the Assistant Coach of the Year at the FCS level as selected by the American Football Coaches Association. He was one of five coaches selected for dedication to their teams and communities. He was the first RMU coach, as well as the first from the NEC, to claim this honor. The 2013 season was Banaszak's sixth as assistant head coach for Robert Morris. Among his numerous duties with the program, he was responsible for tutoring the defensive line and the special teams unit. Under Banaszak's guidance in 2013, Robert Morris led the NEC in net punting, punt return defense and punt return average. Banaszak was also a key component in instructing a RMU defense that finished second in the NEC in total defense within league play in 2013. Robert Morris finished its regular season ranked among the top 25 nationally in at least seven defensive categories including total defense. With Banaszak's assistance, RMU has led the NEC in total defense four times in the past 10 years and ranked among the top four nine times in the past 11 seasons. Banaszak was a key component to a 2010 defense that led the NEC in total defense as the Colonials claimed the NEC's inaugural berth in the FCS Playoffs. In 2006, he helped tutor an RMU defense that led I-AA in total defense, allowing an average of just 228.36 yards per game. 10 of the 13 players in school history to earn All-NEC recognition on the defensive line have come under the tutelage of Banaszak, including Nolan Nearhoof (200912), who was named the 2012 NEC Defensive Player of the Year after breaking both the school and league records for career sacks. Nearhoof would go on to earn AllAmerica honors, becoming the third Colonial defensive lineman to claim an AllAmerica nod under Banaszak in a seven-year span. As much as Banaszak's presence has been felt on the defensive side of the ball, the same can be said on special teams. He has helped five distinct Colonials win an award at return specialist within the past decade. A graduate of Eastern Michigan, Banaszak signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the 1975 season and was one of only three rookies to make the defending Super Bowl champion team out of training camp. Primarily a special teams player on Pittsburgh's Super Bowl X championship team, Banaszak started five games the following season and then started at both right end and inside tackle in 1977 before suffering a knee injury that forced him to the injured reserve list. Between 1978 and 1980, Banaszak started 45 regular-season games at defensive end as the Steelers won back-to-back Super Bowls. In Super Bowl XIII, Banaszak recorded six tackles, including a pair of sacks, and a fumble recovery in a 35-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys, which garnered him Defensive Player of the Game honors. The following year, Banaszak helped the Steelers to a 31-19 victory over the Rams.

Last RMU Game vs. Monmouth Game #5 Monmouth 35, Robert Morris 9 October 5, 2013 / West Long Branch, N.J. Monmouth Stadium (Attendance: 3,210) - Robert Morris took an early lead, but host Monmouth came storming back and pulled away late to claim a 35-9 decision in non-conference action. The setback for RMU ended the Colonials' bid for their fourth consecutive win in West Long Branch. Senior A.J. Holderman had one of his best days as a Colonial as he tallied a career-best six tackles, including a career-high three tackles for loss. He also added his first-career forced fumble on a sack. Redshirt senior defensive lineman R.J. Cook corralled a tipped pass in the third quarter to register his first-career interception. Mike Cook contributed a game-high nine stops, falling just short of posting his eighth doubledigit tackle effort in the past 14 games. Robert Morris forced a three-and-out on the game's first possession, and the special teams unit immediately went to work. Freshman Jimmy Masson brushed aside blocks and rushed into the backfield to block the Hawks' punt attempt. Masson, who notched his first blocked kick, then scooped up the ball and returned it into the red zone. On the second play of the ensuing drive, junior Paul Jones hit senior tight end D.J. Pearson for a 12-yard scoring strike as Pearson made a leaping grab in the back half of the end zone. Monmouth responded right away by marching 77 yards on 10 plays to even the score. Each team drove the ball into the opposing team's territory on its next possession, but neither would score points. After a RMU punt, Holderman forced a fumble that was recovered by junior defensive lineman Forrest Mason. The Colonials would miss the field goal on the ensuing drive, though, and the Hawks used the momentum to drive 74 yards for a touchdown that gave them the lead. After three consecutive punts, Monmouth used a 41-yard pass to double its advantage. The Hawks were set to punt out of their own end zone on their next drive, but a muffed snap combined with a strong Colonial rush forced the hosts into a safety, setting the halftime margin. An interception and a punt by each team helped keep the third quarter scoreless. Monmouth pulled away in the game's final 10 minutes, expanding their lead and holding on for the victory. Pearson caught a career-high six passes for a career-best 63 yards. Junior linebacker Mike Stojkovic tallied a season-high seven tackles while sophomore Brian Jones reset his career best with five. Six different Colonials posted at least 1.0 tackle for loss. In addition to Holderman, Mike Cook and Brian Jones, D.J. Myers, Adrian Perez and Chris Thompkins each added a tackle for loss. Last Time Out - Robert Morris tallied more first downs than Dayton but was unable to turn those conversions into sufficient points as the Flyers topped the Colonials two weeks ago … In addition to first downs, RMU had statistical advantages in rushing yards, completions and time of possession … Senior Jake Tkach netted a game-high and career-high 11 tackles, including a tackle for loss, to lead the RMU defense, which held the Flyers to under 300 yards of total offense … Senior Duane Mitchell caught eight passes and was one of eight Colonials to post a reception on the day … Sophomore Forrest Barnes ran for 61 yards and a touchdown in his first collegiate game. Pick City - Robert Morris ranked among the top 15 nationally in interceptions in 2013, and the Colonial defense is off to a strong start in this department with six INT’s in the first four games. RMU has grabbed at least one interception in 10 of its past 11 games and multiple picks in six of those contests. In fact, the Robert Morris defense has tallied 19 interceptions in the team’s past nine games. Bye Bye - Robert Morris is coming off of its first bye week of the 2014 season, and if history is any indication, this should bode well for the Colonials. RMU is 16-7-1 (.688) all-time when playing after an off week, including 16-6-1 (.717) in the regular season. RMU has won five of its past six regular-season games when playing after a bye, claiming one such win in each of the past five seasons. The Colonials have previously faced Monmouth three times when coming off a bye and pulled out a win in each of those occasions. The most recent such occurrence was 2011, a 23-20 RMU victory. Seeing Red - After ranking 19th nationally in red zone defense a year ago, Robert Morris, despite having eight new starters on defense, has displayed positive signs in this area thus far in 2014. RMU has allowed only eight touchdowns on its opponents’ 22 trips to the red zone, the best such percentage in the conference. In fact, RMU has yielded only four touchdowns on its opponents’ nine drives inside the 10-yard line. On Target - Duane Mitchell had a breakout campaign as a junior in 2013 as he reset the single-season school record with 52 receptions and notched 867 receiving yards, the second-highest figure in RMU history. What made those stats even more impressive is that RMU faced four of the top 30 passing defenses in the nation a year ago. Mitchell has posted 24 catches in the first four games of 2014. That has moved him into third in career receiving yards (1,497) and fourth in receptions (103). On this year’s pace, Mitchell would tie Shadrae King's (2008-11) RMU record of 145 career receptions. No Passing Zone - The Robert Morris pass defense has continued to shine after a strong end to 2013. RMU has allowed only three of its last 11 foes to reach 200 yards passing, and none of those 11 have reached the 220 mark. In its last nine games, RMU is holding its opponents to an average of just 159.1 passing yards. Also, four times in this stretch, the Colonials have held the opposing quarterback under a 43% completion rate. Double-Take - While players moving from offense to defense, or vice versa, is not that uncommon during the offseason of college football, it is rather rare to see it happen during the year. Sophomore Nic Lamica has not only changed positions but he is poised to start on both sides of the ball in consecutive games. After starting the first four games at linebacker, Lamica is slated to start at wide receiver this weekend. He had tallied 30 tackles, 19 solo, 4.0 tackles for loss, four pass breakups and an interception in 2014 before moving to the other side of the ball. Thou Shall Not Rush - One of the positives from RMU’s most recent game was the way its defense bottled up Dayton’s preseason All-Pioneer League First Team running back. Connor Kacsor entered the game ranked as the nation’s second-leading rusher, but the Colonials held him to just 47 yards on the ground. He holds the Flyers’ career record for yards per carry at 6.5, but Robert Morris yielded just 3.6 yards per rush to the senior. Start Me Up - Tony LaMancusa enters Saturday's game with the most consecutive starting assignments of all active Colonials as he has served as the punter for 37 straight games. When special teams is excluded, Antwan Eddie and Nick Faraci are tied for the most total starts among active Colonials at 26.
2014 Robert Morris Football Game Notes vs. Monmouth (10/4/14) - Page 6 Three Is for Me - The Robert Morris defense proved quite adept at getting off the field on third down on its three-game road trip. RMU held each of its last three opponents to only three third-down conversions when they all had 14+ attempts. It marked the first time since 2009 that the Colonials held their opponent to lower than 25% on third down in three consecutive weeks. Taylor's Trio - After entering 2014 without a career start, junior David Taylor has had quite the impact from his cornerback position thus far this season. Taylor has three interceptions in four games—no other FCS player has more interceptions in four or fewer games this season. Taylor also blocked a field goal try at Lafayette as he came roaring off the corner to get a piece. Any Given Saturday - Before becoming a record-breaking receiver for RMU, Duane Mitchell began his career as a running back in his rookie season. Since moving to receiver, Mitchell has played in 26 games, and he has caught at least one pass in each of those outings. He has caught multiple passes in 16 of the team's past 17 games. The RMU record for consecutive games with a reception is held by tight end Shadrae King (2008-11), who caught a pass in each of the final 30 games he played. Spread the Love - Robert Morris grabbed 16 interceptions in 2013, its secondhighest figure since 1999. What really was noteworthy about RMU's sum was that 11 different Colonials helped produce it, marking the most players to have at least one interception in any RMU season. After two different Colonials grabbed picks in the season opener, 13 distinct Colonials have grabbed at least one interception in the team’s past 11 games. First Impressions - A number of RMU players have accrued a ‘first’ in the season’s opening four games. A total of 20 Colonials have made their firstcareer start thus far, 11 on offense and nine on defense. 12 of those 20 had never competed in a collegiate game before 2014. In all, 32 Colonials have made their collegiate debut this season. Luke Brumbaugh became the first redshirt or true freshman to start a season opener at QB for RMU since 1994. Two Is Better Than One - Senior Antwan Eddie provided one of the bright spots for the Colonials at Lafayette as he grabbed two interceptions. He picked off Leopard quarterback Drew Reed who only threw five picks all of last year. Eddie has now posted two interceptions in a game twice in the past eight outings. He grabbed two INT against Bryant last year (11/2) when he was matched up against the NEC’s all-time leading receiver. Eddie needs one more pick to move into RMU’s career top 10 in that category. Reaching New Heights - After setting a career high in receptions (six) in the 2013 season finale, junior Sean Gavin broke out in the 2014 opener before leaving due to injury. Gavin set career highs in catches (eight) and receiving yards (102) against Eastern Kentucky despite not finishing the game. He is expected to make his first appearance since the opener against Monmouth.
Last RMU Game Game #4 • Dayton 31, Robert Morris 7 September 20, 2014 • Dayton, Ohio Welcome Stadium (Attendance: 5,839) - Robert Morris tallied more first downs than Dayton but was unable to turn those conversions into sufficient points as the Flyers topped the Colonials, 31-7, in non-conference action. Senior linebacker Jake Tkach netted a game-high and career-high 11 tackles, including a tackle for loss, to lead the RMU defense. Junior David Taylor notched an interception in the third quarter, his third pick in the past four games. Sophomore Forrest Barnes ran for 61 yards and a touchdown while also catching a pass in his first collegiate game after entering when two of RMU's running backs left the game due to injury in the first half. Dayton took the opening kickoff and put together its best drive of the day as it used seven plays to trek 77 yards to the end zone. After a Colonial punt, the Flyers used fantastic field position to double their lead as they needed to travel less than half the field to cross the goal line. RMU turned the ball over on downs on its next possession before both defenses settled into the game. Each of the next eight drives ended in a punt with the Colonials tallying 46 yards on their four drives while holding the hosts to 21. Dayton then used a short field to drive into the red zone where RMU forced a field goal attempt that was converted. Robert Morris moved 29 yards into Dayton territory before punting on its next drive. The Flyers posted a backbreaking score on their final drive of the half as they reached the end zone in the final minute after consecutive long passes. After each team punted on its first drive of the second half, Robert Morris would strike with a 10-play drive. Barnes ran for 28 yards on the drive while sophomore quarterback Luke Brumbaugh found three different receivers, including hitting true freshman Jamison Williams for 15 yards on a fourth-down play. Barnes would barrel in from two yards out to complete the sequence. Robert Morris forced a Dayton punt after four plays to get the ball back. The Colonials then drove 28 yards before an interception halted the momentum. RMU's problems with turnovers would continue later in the quarter when a fumble near its own goal line essentially gifted the Flyers an insurance touchdown. RMU accumulated at least 30 yards on three of its final four drives, but it could make no further dent on the scoreboard.

Each of the last four times that Robert Morris has accumulated more first 2014 Records to Date downs than its opponent RMU has lost. On the flip side, in their past four Robert Morris (0-4) / Dayton (2-1) wins, the Colonials have only had more first downs than their opponent once. 2014 Robert Morris Football Game Notes vs. Monmouth (10/4/14) - Page 7 Welcome Home - Robert Morris returns home for the first time since its home opener August 28. The span of 36 days between home games in the same season is the longest in program history. This season also marked the first time ever that RMU did not play a home game during the month of September. In fact, this is the third time in four years that RMU has had more than one month between home games within the same season. Making the Grade - Recently graduated linebacker Kyle Cooper and current senior offensive lineman Nick Faraci were both named Capital One Academic All-District First Team last November. As a result of their first-team selections, both Colonials advanced to the Academic All-America ballot. While this was the first such honor for both Cooper and Faraci, the RMU football program is no stranger to academic successes. These two accolades gave the Colonial program at least one Academic All-District honoree in each of the past 11 seasons, a span in which Robert Morris has taken home 21 overall selections. To put that in perspective, no other NEC school has an active streak of football academic all-district selections longer than two years. Cooper, a sport management major who also earned his Master of Business Administration, had a 3.71 GPA. He had 81 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and forced two turnovers in 2013. Faraci, a nursing major, has a sterling 3.92 GPA. He has started 26 consecutive games at center, the most consecutive starts by any active Colonial on offense or defense. Ramming Defenses - Rameses Owens was named National Freshman of the Week after breaking multiple school records in the team's road opener at North Dakota. He is believed to be the first Colonial ever to earn Freshman of the Week honors from The Sports Network. Owens had a breakout performance as he racked up a game-high 199 rushing yards while finding the end zone once. The 199 yards represented a new RMU record for single-game rushing yardage by a freshman and is among the top 15 marks ever by a RMU running back. Owens finished the day with 237 all-purpose yards. Hurry Up – One of Darrin Hicks' goals as offensive coordinator is to run plays at a high rate. The Colonials ran 84 offensive plays last time out at Dayton, the fifth-highest amount in program annals and a school record for any non-conference outing. Catch Me If You Can - Antwan Eddie will have a challenge duplicating his 2013 effort as he became the first Colonial to be named an All-American for a performance on special teams. He returned punts for the first time in his career in 2013 and tallied a singleseason school record 405 yards on 27 returns. He ranked third in the FCS, averaging 15 yards per return, and broke a school record with an 88-yard return for a TD at VMI. Eddie was honored three times in the NEC's weekly special teams category. He also earned postseason acclaim on defense as he garnered All-NEC honors at cornerback.

They'll Be Back - One interesting way to examine the youth of the Colonials is to look at the number of players that started their season opener who will be done with their careers after this season. Of RMU’s 22 offensive and defensive starters from its opener, only three Colonials—two on offense, one on defense—will have used all of their NCAA eligibility when the 2014 campaign is completed.

Punt It - Tony LaMancusa earned All-NEC honors in 2013 after leading the league in punting. He also helped RMU top the NEC in both net punting and punt return defense. He started off 2014 well as he tied a single-game school record, which he had already done once, with four punts downed inside the 20-yard line. LaMancusa has notched 28 punts downed inside the 20 against only four touchbacks in his last 17 games.

In NFL Training Camp - RMU assistant coach Myles Russ had a unique opportunity to help the Buffalo Bills' staff and running backs during the National Football League team's training camp in late July. Russ, the running backs coach for the Colonials, was one of three individuals selected by the Bills to participate in this year's Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship program. The Bills ranked second in the NFL in rushing yardage per game (144.2) last season with C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson leading the way. The Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship is designed to expose talented minority college coaches to the methods and philosophies of NFL training camps. Russ is in his third season and remains the program’s all-time leading rusher (4,271).

Farison Elevated to Assistant Head Coach
Team
Robert Morris University head coach John Banaszak announced September 10 that Scott Farison had been promoted to assistant head coach. Farison is in his 13th season on the sidelines for RMU and is the longest-tenured active member of the staff. He is in his eighth season as the defensive coordinator for the Colonials, and he will retain the responsibility for leading the defense in his new role. "Scott's been here for 13 years and absolutely deserves this promotion to assistant head football coach," Banaszak said. "He performs many duties that are not in his job description and is definitely my right-hand man. Promoting him to assistant head coach is certainly the next step in his career." The Colonials have consistently produced quality defenses under Farison's watch, and last year was no exception. In Farison's 11 seasons coaching the defensive side of the ball at RMU, the Colonials have finished among the top 25 nationally in total defense on six occasions, including finishing among the top 11 on four of those occurrences. Robert Morris has led the Northeast Conference in total defense four times in the past 10 years with guidance from Farison. In 2013, RMU ranked second in total defense within league play, finishing in the top two in that category for the third time in five years. Farison helped the RMU defense finish the regular season among the top 25 nationally in a number of defensive categories including third-down defense, first downs allowed, passing defense, red zone defense, passing efficiency defense, turnovers gained and total defense. Farison has been directly responsible for helping four different Colonials to NEC Defensive Player of the Year honors within the past decade, including two within the past four years. He has also assisted two Colonials to NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in his time at RMU. In Farison's seven seasons as defensive coordinator, he has seen RMU claim 21 All-NEC awards on the defensive side of the ball. Farison had spent the past decade as the recruiting coordinator for Robert Morris, but as part of the move, Banaszak announced that assistant coach Andrew Richardson would assume that role. Richardson, the team's offensive line coach, is in his eighth season on staff with RMU. In Richardson's seven seasons as an assistant, RMU offensive linemen have claimed seven AllNEC honors with two separate Colonials earning All-America awards.

2014 Robert Morris Football Game Notes vs. Monmouth (10/4/14) - Page 9 The Founding Father - The one constant in the first two decades of Colonial football was former head coach Joe Walton. Walton, the former NFL tight end and head coach of the New York Jets, started the program from scratch, completing everything from hiring assistants to purchasing equipment. He was named NEC Coach of the Year four times in 18 seasons and guided RMU to a pair of NCAA I-AA mid-major national crowns during his time on the sidelines. Walton, currently a special assistant to the athletic director at Robert Morris, was inducted in the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame last November. Get To The Chopper - A quick glance at RMU’s record when broken down proves how important it is the Colonials get off to a good start in contests. When Robert Morris is leading at halftime, the program owns an all-time record of 89-13 (.873). When trailing at the break, Robert Morris owns a mark of 12-74-1 (.144). Even going into halftime tied is beneficial, as the Colonials own an overall record of 14-9 (.609) in such games. The Magic Mark - Since the Colonials began play in 1994, there have been 76 games in which Robert Morris has scored 30 or more points. In those contests RMU boasts a record of 71-5 (.934), including a record of 42-5 (.894) in games in which the team scores between 30 and 39 points. In games in which the Colonials score 40 or more points, RMU is a perfect 29-0. RMU Football Historical Tidbits - The inaugural running back at Robert Morris, the late Tim Hall (1994-95), rushed for 2,908 yards in his two seasons as a Colonial. Hall still owns the FCS season and career records for yards per carry, with his season record of 8.7 yards per carry set in 1994 and his twoyear career record of 7.4 established in 1994 and 1995 ... Hall also ranks fourth all-time in the FCS in both rushing yards per game (153.1) and allpurpose yards per game (194.8) ... Former Colonial linebacker James Noel (2002-05) ranks sixth in the FCS record book for career tackles per game (10.7), while his career tackle total of 437 takedowns ranks 14th all-time ... Former linebacker and current assistant coach Alex DiMichele (2008-10) averaged 10 tackles per game over his three years in a Robert Morris uniform, which ranks 13th all-time in the FCS record book ... Robert Morris has topped the nation in passing defense twice in the past 15 years, based on passing efficiency defense rating. The Colonials topped the charts in 1999 (with a 80.80 rating) as well as in 2006 (with a 88.70 rating). Did You Know? - Robert Morris owns the all-time FCS record for the most consecutive quarters while holding an opponent scoreless. During the 1996 season, the Colonials went 15 straight quarters without allowing a single point. In fact, the record-setting streak occurred at the beginning of the season. RMU posted three straight shutouts -- 20-0 against Mercyhurst (9/7), 38-0 against Butler (9/14) and 7-0 against Towson State (9/21) -- to open the campaign and then held Central Connecticut State (9/28) scoreless for the first three quarters before finally allowing a point for the first time all season. In all, Robert Morris went 234:04 before allowing a point in 1996. RMU went 9-2 (.818) in 1996, claiming a share of the NEC championship, and conceded just 12.9 points per game. The Last Time a Colonial ... Rushed for 200 or more yards in a game: Myles Russ, 246 (10/11/08 vs. Duquesne - span of 64 games) ... Robert Morris Captains Head coach John Banaszak has elected to continue with a similar setup to the one that Robert Morris used in regard to its captains a year ago. RMU has chosen two captains— one offensive and one defensive—for the duration of the season. Two additional captains will be chosen each game week on a rotating basis. The extra captains could come from any area of the team.
OFFENSE Redshirt senior Jon Hill was selected as the team’s captain on the offensive end. Hill is the most experienced offensive lineman on the roster, having played in 29 career games. He started every game at right tackle in 2013 and also started at right guard during the 2012 campaign. Hill actually entered Robert Morris as a defensive lineman coming out of high school, but he was transitioned to the offensive side of the ball before his sophomore season. DEFENSE Senior Antwan Eddie was named as the team’s captain on the defensive end. Eddie is a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter at cornerback for the Colonials. He claimed all-conference honors at both defensive back and return specialist last season after breaking the singleseason school record for punt return yards. He owns 95 tackles, seven interceptions and 454 punt return yards in his career. He earned Third Team All-America honors from The Sports Network at punt returner a year ago. Robert Morris On The Airwaves Colonial football games are heard live on ESPN Radio AM-970 Pittsburgh, the flagship station of Robert Morris University athletics. ESPN 970 and RMU reached a threeyear agreement in the summer of 2013 to broadcast football, men’s basketball and men’s hockey games. The Voice of the Colonials, Chris Shovlin, and color analyst Brian Cleary call the football action. RMU Assistant Sports Information Director Spencer Kowitz joins Shovlin as color analyst for select Colonial road games. "The John Banaszak Show" is on 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Games can also be heard on the station’s website, www.970espn. com, as well as on iHeartRadio. RMU home and league games can be seen live for free on NEC Front Row, the conference’s online digital network. The league has added multiple upgrades this year, including the ability to transmit live events in HD as well as providing the ability for the viewer to use a DVR-style, in-game real-time rewind feature.

Since Robert Morris played its first season in 1994, three former Colonials have appeared in a game in the National Football League (NFL), the most among current NEC members in this span as of August 2014. Many players have “rewritten” record books at various schools. At Robert Morris, however, Tim Hall wrote the record book. Hall rushed for 2,908 yards on 393 carries in his two seasons in a Colonial uniform and was named an All-American by the Associated Press in 1995. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round (183rd player overall) in the 1996 NFL Draft. In 1997, he led the Raiders in yards per carry average with 5.2 and was second in rushing yards to Napolean Kaufman. On Sept. 30, 1998, Hall was shot and killed in Kansas City at age 24. Hank Fraley, who played on the offensive line for Robert Morris from 1996-1999, carved out a niche for himself in the NFL for over a decade. Fraley was a three-time Mid-Major All-American during his years at RMU before he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a free-agent contract in April 2000. Fraley was later claimed by the Eagles and started at center for Philadelphia for the entire 2001 season, helping the team to the 2002 NFC Championship game. For four straight seasons with Fraley starting at center from 2002-05, the Eagles appeared in the NFC Championship game. In 2005, Fraley became the first RMU alum to appear in the Super Bowl when he started at center against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Former RMU defensive back Robb Butler played for the San Diego Chargers during the 2004 season and was featured in special teams situations, including returning kickoffs.
