Robert Morris (1-3 / 0-0) @ Wagner (0-3 / 0-0) Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 at Noon Wagner College Stadium (3,300) - Staten Island, N.Y.

Radio: ESPN 970 AM (Chris Shovlin - play-by-play & Spencer Kowitz - color) Audio on the internet at: www.970espn.com / Live Video: www.necfrontrow.com Top Story - The Robert Morris University football team commences Northeast Conference play this Saturday, Oct. 3, as it travels to Staten Island to face defending co-champion Wagner at Noon at Wagner College Stadium. RMU is coming off of a setback at South Dakota State, which was the Colonials’ second contest in three weeks on the road against a nationally ranked opponent. Wagner is playing its third home game in as many weeks this Saturday. The Seahawks took a lead into the fourth quarter against Lafayette last weekend, but the Leopards rallied for a victory. RMU linebacker Kimani Smith and placekicker Connor Shennan collected defensive and special teams honors, respectively, in the league’s weekly release Monday, giving the Colonials a NEC-best five awards this season. Robert Morris’ rushing attack has put up impressive numbers in recent weeks as the Colonials have increased their rushing output in each game thus far this season. RMU will continue NEC play next Saturday, Oct. 10, as it hosts the league’s 2014 playoff participant, Sacred Heart, on ESPN3 before enjoying its lone bye of the campaign. Quick Stat of the Afternoon - Saturday’s contest with Wagner will, in some sense, mark the beginning of a new season for both programs as the Colonials and Seahawks will be opening Northeast Conference play this weekend, starting an eight-week journey that will decide the league’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA Playoffs. Robert Morris is 10-9 (.526) all-time in conference lidlifters dating back to the NEC’s first season sponsoring football in 1996. The interesting part about that mark is that the Colonials are only 3-7 (.300) when starting a conference season at home but are a robust 7-2 (.778) when starting NEC play away from Moon Township. Somewhat surprisingly, this will be the first time RMU has ever opened conference play with Wagner, making the Seahawks the eighth distinct school with which RMU has commenced league action. After Saturday, RMU will have met each of its current league foes in a NEC opener. Saturday's Opponent - Wagner is one of just three opponents Robert Morris faced in each of the first 21 years the Colonials fielded an intercollegiate program, joining fellow NEC foes Central Connecticut State and Saint Francis. All-time the Colonials are 13-8 (.619) against the Seahawks. RMU owns nearly its entire advantage due to its play in home games. Although Robert Morris lost four of its first six on Staten Island, the Colonials have won four of their past five in New York, including a thrilling 17-13 victory in 2013. For more information on the all-time series against Wagner, including the last game recap, please see page four of today’s game notes. On This Date (Oct. 3) in Robert Morris Football History - Robert Morris has played twice before on October 3, posting a victory and a loss. Like this Saturday, each of the two previous occasions was a conference road contest for RMU. The first time the Colonials took the field on this date came in 1998 as they collected their first-ever win at Wagner, this week’s opponent. A rushing touchdown by the Seahawks was the lone score of the first quarter, but RMU used a pair of second-quarter TD’s to take a 14-9 lead at the break. After a scoreless third frame, Robert Morris found the end zone four times in the fourth quarter to turn a close affair into a laugher. The game only featured two turnovers, but both were interceptions thrown by Wagner that RMU returned for touchdowns. The Colonials outgained the Seahawks, 459-296, a difference aided by 330 passing yards by Tim Levcik (1998-2001), including a 94-yard bomb to Archie Wannamaker (1996-98). Chris Beene (1998) and Brad Miller (1998-2000) each contributed a pick-six.

2015 Robert Morris Football Game Notes @ Wagner (10/3/15) - Page 3

Head Coach John Banaszak Second Season - Eastern Michigan ’75 John Banaszak became the second head football coach in Robert Morris University history in December 2013. He served as an assistant coach and assistant head coach for the Colonials for 11 consecutive years prior to taking over the top spot. Banaszak was selected as Coach-In-Waiting in January 2012, allowing for a simple transition following the 2013 campaign. At the end of the 2013 season, he was named as the Assistant Coach of the Year at the FCS level as selected by the American Football Coaches Association. He was one of five coaches selected for dedication to their teams and communities. He was the first RMU coach, as well as the first from the NEC, to claim this honor. The 2013 season was Banaszak's sixth and final as assistant head coach for Robert Morris. Among his numerous duties with the program before becoming head coach, he was responsible for tutoring the defensive line and the special teams unit. Under Banaszak's guidance in 2013, Robert Morris led the NEC in net punting, punt return defense and punt return average. Banaszak was also a key component in instructing a RMU defense that finished second in the NEC in total defense within league play in 2013. Robert Morris finished its regular season ranked among the top 25 nationally in at least seven defensive categories including total defense. With Banaszak's assistance, RMU has led the NEC in total defense four times in the past 11 years and ranked among the top four nine times in the past 12 seasons. Banaszak was a key component to a 2010 defense that led the NEC in total defense as the Colonials claimed the NEC's inaugural berth in the FCS Playoffs. In 2006, he helped tutor an RMU defense that led I-AA in total defense, allowing an average of just 228.36 yards per game. 10 of the 13 players in school history to earn All-NEC recognition on the defensive line have come under the tutelage of Banaszak, including Nolan Nearhoof (200912), who was named the 2012 NEC Defensive Player of the Year after breaking both the school and league records for career sacks. Nearhoof would go on to earn AllAmerica honors, becoming the third Colonial defensive lineman to claim an AllAmerica nod under Banaszak in a seven-year span. As much as Banaszak's presence has been felt on the defensive side of the ball, the same can be said on special teams. He helped five distinct Colonials win an award at return specialist within the span of one decade. A graduate of Eastern Michigan, Banaszak signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the 1975 season and was one of only three rookies to make the defending Super Bowl champion team out of training camp. Primarily a special teams player on Pittsburgh's Super Bowl X championship team, Banaszak started five games the following season and then started at both right end and inside tackle in 1977 before suffering a knee injury that forced him to the injured reserve list. Between 1978 and 1980, Banaszak started 45 regular-season games at defensive end as the Steelers won back-to-back Super Bowls. In Super Bowl XIII, Banaszak recorded six tackles, including a pair of sacks, and a fumble recovery in a 35-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys, which garnered him Defensive Player of the Game honors. The following year, Banaszak helped the Steelers to a 31-19 victory over the Rams.

Last RMU Game vs. Wagner Game #9 Wagner 20, Robert Morris 0 November 8, 2014 / Moon Township, Pa. Joe Walton Stadium (Attendance: 1,192) - Duane Mitchell broke a school record and Robert Morris played strong defense, but the Colonials dropped a 20-0 decision to Wagner in a NEC contest. Robert Morris was forced into using four quarterbacks due to injuries. Junior Derik Abbott completed his first two passes for 56 yards but was unable to return after the game’s opening series. Each team reached the red zone three times Saturday, but Wagner found more success in that area than the Colonials. Robert Morris drove over 50 yards into the red zone on the game’s first drive, getting inside Wagner’s 10-yard line, but its field goal attempt was blocked. Wagner drove into RMU territory on the ensuing possession, but the Colonials stopped a rush short of the sticks on fourth down. RMU was then lined up to punt, but a poor snap forced the hosts into conceding a safety. Wagner followed by using a short field, after the free kick, to tack on a field goal on the final play of the first quarter after an apparent Colonial interception was nullified during the drive. Robert Morris moved into Seahawk territory to start the second quarter before a sack killed the drive and forced a punt. Wagner went three-and-out on its next two drives while the Colonials fumbled in Wagner territory on one and punted on the other. The Seahawks then made it a two-score game with an 11-play touchdown drive as they scored on a third down rush right near the end of the half. After each team punted once to start the third stanza, Wagner used starting field position near midfield to launch a short field goal drive after RMU held with its back to the wall in the red zone. RMU reached Seahawk territory on its next two drives, but punted after a sack and then just missed connecting on a fourth down pass, while Wagner punted on two straight drives. On the guests’ second punt, Antwan Eddie returned the boot 44 yards into the red zone. An untimely interception by the hosts then turned into six quick points for Wagner as the Seahawks brought the pick back nearly the length of the field. Robert Morris then executed a beautiful trick return as a handoff during the runback confused the cover team as Andy Smigiera brought it back 57 yards. However, RMU was unable to take advantage as a turnover on downs kept the hosts from reaching the red zone. Each of the next six drives culminated in a punt, essentially ending the contest. Senior linebacker Jake Tkach tallied a game-high and career-high 13 tackles and tied his career high of 3.0 tackles for loss. True freshman Gerald Ferguson contributed season highs in tackles (10) and tackles for loss (3.0). Score By Quarters Wagner Robert Morris

Last Time Out - Robert Morris played a solid first half but No. 6/7 South Dakota State pulled away late to claim a 34-10 decision … RMU won the turnover battle, picking off the Jackrabbits twice, after SDSU had entered the game having only committed one total turnover in its past six games … RMU had four quarterbacks see action since starter Mathew Barr was forced to leave the game at halftime … True freshman Dante Satcher posted a game-high 85 rushing yards and finished with 128 all-purpose yards … Both Satcher and Barr contributed rushes of 50+ yards … For the second time in three weeks, sophomore cornerback Drew Allen tied his career high of seven tackles. Meet Mr. Smith - Kimani Smith became the third distinct Colonial in four weeks to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors from the NEC Monday. He posted eight tackles, six of which were solo, along with a tackle for loss, an interception and two pass breakups against No. 6 South Dakota State. He also helped hold SDSU to a lower point total than its produced against FBS member Kansas. Smith is second on RMU in tackles (26) and leads the team and ranks among the top five in the league in tackles for loss (4.5). Special Special Teams - True freshman Warren Robinson was named the NEC’s Special Teams Player of the Week Sept. 21. The rookie returned three punts for 89 yards Sept. 19, including a 66-yard return for a touchdown. It marked only the fourth punt return for a touchdown in RMU history, but it was the first ever by a freshman. In fact, he is one of only two freshmen among the 123 FCS programs to return a punt for a TD in 2015. Robinson’s 66-yard scamper was the second longest punt return in RMU history. Ground Game - Robert Morris posted a sizeable advantage in rushing yards last weekend at No. 6 South Dakota State (228-125). This was due in large part to the Colonials averaging 6.0 yards per carry compared to 3.5 for the Jackrabbits. It marked the 14th time in program history, but just the fourth since the turn of the century, in which a Colonial team averaged at least 6.0 yards per carry. RMU has also now rushed for at least 200 yards in back-to-back games for the first time since 2010. Turning It Around - A main point of emphasis for Robert Morris in 2015 was to improve its turnover differential after last year’s poor display in that category. Four weeks into 2015, RMU stands at +4 in turnovers. The Colonials have turned the ball over six times, but they have forced 10 turnovers—six INT, four fumbles—to make up for that. Rookie Records - Redshirt freshman Kyle Buss caught nine passes for 108 yards and a touchdown in just his third collegiate game Sept. 19. Buss, who also added 24 rushing yards, broke the RMU freshman single-game record for receptions as his nine catches are tied for the third most by a Colonial in a contest. Buss caught a 26-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter to find the end zone for the first time as a collegian. Just For Kicks - RMU has done well at covering its kickoffs thus far in 2015. Junior Connor Shennan has tallied nine touchbacks on 17 attempts, the highest percentage in the NEC. However, even when his kicks have not resulted in touchbacks, RMU is holding its opponents to just 15.7 yards per return, one of the top 15 marks in the FCS. Homegrown - One week after Rameses Owens ran for 152 yards, Cole Blake showcased RMU’s depth at running back in the last home game. The hometown product rushed 25 times for a career-best 136 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per carry. Blake actually saw minimal action in the first half and registered 132 of his 136 yards in the second half. Break It Up - The median completion percentage across the FCS in 2014 was 57.6%. Robert Morris has allowed only three of its past 22 opponents to reach that mark. In fact, seven times in this stretch, the Colonials have held their opponent under a 45% rate. In each of the past two seasons, RMU had a stretch where it held its opponent under a 50% completion mark in three straight games. Start Me Up - Nick Faraci enters Saturday's game with the most consecutive starting assignments of all active Colonials as he has served as the center for 37 straight games. On defense, Marcelis Branch has the most total starts among active Colonials with 24, but Andy Smigiera and Mike Stojkovic are tied for the longest active streak (15).

2015 Robert Morris Football Game Notes @ Wagner (10/3/15) - Page 6 The Third Phase - Junior Connor Shennan was named NEC Special Teams Player of the Week Monday. He nailed a career-best 46-yard field goal at South Dakota State last weekend, knocked two of his three kickoffs for touchbacks and improved to 11-for-11 on extra points in 2015. D-Fence - One week after Youngstown State scored 37 points and accumulated over 400 yards of total offense against Atlantic Coast Conference member Pittsburgh, the Robert Morris defense held the Penguins to 14 points and 304 total yards in regulation. RMU held the Penguins to an 11-for-27 passing mark, which is the lowest completion percentage by a Penguin team in their past 19 games. YSU’s total yards mark is its second smallest in its past 14 games. RMU also held YSU to a 5-for-17 figure on third down. Protect This Backfield - The RMU offensive line did not allow a single sack last week at No. 6 South Dakota State. It marked the first non-conference game in which RMU did not allow a sack since its 2006 season opener and was the first time ever RMU did not yield a sack when facing a ranked team. Back-to-Back - Sophomore strong safety Ryan Richards Jr. was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week in the first release of the season. It marked the second straight weekly release in which he was honored as he claimed rookie accolades to close the 2014 season. Richards grabbed a pair of interceptions in the season opener, his fourth career start, while adding six tackles and a pass breakup. Richards owns a league-leading three interceptions in 2015, and four in his career, along with 23 tackles. Knock It Down - Through the first four games of the 2015 season, the RMU defense has tallied 18 pass breakups, notching at least four in each game. That puts the Colonials on pace to break the single-season school record of 49 pass breakups. Nine different Colonials have contributed to this mark with Andy Smigiera and Mike Stojkovic leading the way with three each. Initial Impressions - A number of RMU players have accrued a ‘first’ during the 2015 season. Six Colonials have made their first collegiate start through four games. Five of those six are part of a group of 17 Colonials that have made their collegiate deubt in 2015. A total of 27 Colonials made their first career start a year ago while 35 Colonials made their collegiate debut in 2014. Thou Shall Not Rush - The Robert Morris defense put forth a strong effort against the nation's fifth-leading rusher from a year ago in its 2015 season opener. Dayton's Connor Kacsor averaged over 140 yards per game on the ground in 2014, but the Colonials held him to nearly half that mark Sept. 5. RMU held Kacsor to 2.2 yards per carry on 33 attempts after he averaged 6.1 yards per carry during the 2014 season. In Kacsor's two games since, he topped 225 rushing yards both times and has combined for six touchdowns. Stock Watch - Mike Stojkovic was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 14, marking the second straight week a Colonial won that honor. Stojkovic helped limit nationally ranked Youngstown State’s offense as he posted 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble against the Penguins. He has hit double digits in tackles in three of four games this season and added 3.5 tackles for loss and three pass breakups. Stojkovic is currently tied for the league lead in tackles per game (9.3). No Passing Zone - The Robert Morris defense did well in keeping opposing offenses from moving the ball through the air near the end zone last year. The Colonials grabbed eight interceptions in 2014 within 20 yards of the end zone they were defending. RMU has tallied four such picks in the first four games of 2015, giving it 12 grabs inside its own 20 in its past 15 games. Seven distinct Colonials have contributed to that mark.

Last RMU Game Game #4 • South Dakota State 34, Robert Morris 10 September 26, 2015 • Brookings, S.D. Coughlin-Alumni Stadium (Attendance: 12,153) - Robert Morris had the ball and trailed by just 10 points late in the third quarter, but No. 6/7 South Dakota State pulled away late to claim a 34-10 decision. RMU had four quarterbacks see action since starter Mathew Barr was forced to leave the game at halftime. RMU got one first down on the game's opening drive before it was forced to punt. SDSU found the end zone with a 70-yard drive on its first possession as it scored on a third-and-goal improvised pass. Robert Morris punted on its next drive. The Jacks then drove into the red zone, but Kimani Smith posted a pick with a leaping grab. RMU used the takeaway to get on the board early in the second quarter as it drove 58 yards. A leaping 25-yard catch by Nic Lamica on third down highlighted the drive. Connor Shennan knocked through a 46-yard field goal to get the Colonials on the board. SDSU answered with a 10-play, 75-yard TD drive. The Jacks picked up 70 yards through the air but scored on a 3-yard rush on third down. Robert Morris did not back down as it answered with a sevenplay, 83-yard TD drive. After both Cole Blake and Kyle Buss had first down runs, Barr reeled off a 54-yard run to move the ball near the goal line. On third-and-goal, Barr rolled to his right and lofted a pass toward the back of the end zone where Lamica made a jumping grab. SDSU moved inside the RMU 10-yard line on its next drive, but RMU kept the hosts out of the end zone to force a field goal. Dante Satcher rushed for two first downs on the next drive, moving the ball into SDSU territory, before RMU was forced to punt. SDSU again drove into the red zone on its next drive, but the Colonials prevented three straight passes from reaching their targets. SDSU hit a field goal in the final minute of the half to make it 20-10. SDSU went for it on fourth-and-one in RMU territory on the first drive of the second half, but Mike Stojkovic stuck the ballcarrier in the backfield to force a turnover on downs. After RMU committed its lone turnover, the Colonials returned the favor when Andy Smigiera picked off a pass at his own 2-yard line. With Robert Morris backed up, the Colonials were unable to pick up a first down and had to punt out of their own end zone. As a result, the Jacks needed to drive just 32 yards to find the end zone and add on to their lead. A three-and-out by RMU and a seven-play, 69-yard touchdown drive by SDSU all but put the game out of reach. RMU did reach the red zone once more after Satcher posted a 54-yard rush. 2015 Robert Morris Football Game Notes @ Wagner (10/3/15) - Page 7 For Starters - When Robert Morris took the field in its 2014 season finale at Duquesne, it sported its 11th distinct offensive starting lineup in the 11th and final game. RMU, which has sported different lineups on offense in its past 18 games overall, saw 23 distinct players start on offense in 2014 alone. Through four games in 2015, 16 Colonials have started on offense. Making the Grade - Current redshirt senior offensive lineman Nick Faraci and recently graduated wide receiver Duane Mitchell were both named Capital One Academic AllDistrict First Team last November. It was the second straight year Faraci earned this honor and the first such award for Mitchell, as they continued the trend of academic successes in the football program. These two accolades gave the Colonial program at least one Academic All-District honoree in each of the past 12 seasons, a span in which Robert Morris has taken home 23 overall selections. To put that in perspective, no other NEC school has an active streak of football Academic All-District selections longer than three years. Mitchell, a finance major, became the first RMU wide receiver to ever claim this honor. Ramming Defenses - Sophomore Rameses Owens carried the RMU offense in its road opener at nationally ranked Youngstown State. He rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns, the first multi-TD effort of his career. It marked the third time he surpassed 150 rushing yards in his eighth collegiate start. In his first career start, Owens rushed for 199 yards at North Dakota. In doing so, he broke the RMU freshman single-game rushing mark and was also named National Freshman of the Week by The Sports Network. He also rushed for 154 yards in his first home start against Monmouth (10/4/14). Seventh Heaven - Robert Morris was selected to finish seventh in the annual preseason Northeast Conference coaches poll. That fact may actually bode well for the Colonials on multiple fronts. In two of the past three seasons, the team picked seventh in the league has gone on to claim the NEC's automatic bid into the FCS Playoffs. Furthermore, the only other time in the past decade that Robert Morris was placed in the seventh position in the preseason poll came in 2006. RMU finished 7-4 that season and was a game out of first place at 5-2 in the league. In fact, the Colonials led the nation in total defense that season, allowing an average of 228.4 yards per game. Hurry Up – Robert Morris has run at least 80 offensive plays in a game 14 times in program history. After doing it eight times in its first 20 seasons, RMU has run 80+ plays six times since new offensive coordinator Darrin Hicks took over in 2014. The Colonials hit that figure four times in 2014 and twice in their first four games of 2015.

They'll Be Back - One interesting way to examine the state of the Colonial roster is to look at the number of players that started the season opener who will be finished with their careers after this season. Of RMU’s 22 offensive and defensive starters from its opener, only five Colonials—two on offense, three on defense—will have used all of their NCAA eligibility when the 2015 campaign is completed.

Others Receiving Votes: Lamar (269), Cal Poly (183), North Dakota (145), Southern Illinois (49), Furman (48), Stony Brook (45), North Carolina A&T (41), Northern Arizona (40), Western Illinois (38), Alcorn State (33), Samford (28)

Times Two - One of the mainstays returning to the RMU defense in 2015 is redshirt senior Forrest Mason. Mason earned his second straight All-NEC honor in 2014, making him just one of five Colonials ever to claim multiple all-league honors as a defensive lineman. What made that accolade even more impressive is that the league’s coaches voted him to the team despite the fact that he was only able to appear in seven games. Mason currently is tied for third in the NEC in tackles per game among defensive linemen (5.5). He returned his first career interception for a touchdown in a Sept. 19 win.

The Nurse Will See You - RMU's starting center, redshirt senior Nick Faraci, became the fifth Colonial in school history, and the first on the offensive side of the ball, to earn a prestigious Academic All-America award this past December. However, that may not even be his most impressive feat. Faraci graduated from RMU in May with the highest grade point average in his nursing class. He subsequently passed his nursing board exams in the summer to earn his registered nurse (RN) license. Faraci, who owns a 3.94 cumulative GPA, worked in four area hospitals as part of his clinical rotations over the past few years.

Robert Morris Assistant Coaches

Team

Scott Farison (assistant head coach, defensive coordinator; Mercyhurst ’01) Farison, in his 14th season at RMU, is currently the longest-tenured active member on staff. He was promoted to assistant head coach last year and is in his ninth season as defensive coordinator. In Farison’s 12 seasons coaching the defensive side of the ball at RMU, the Colonials have finished among the top 25 nationally in total defense on six occasions, including finishing among the top 11 on four of those occurrences. Farison has been directly responsible for helping four different Colonials to NEC Defensive Player of the Year honors since 2004. Darrin Hicks (offensive coordinator; Washington & Jefferson ’96) Hicks is in his second season as offensive coordinator after brining 17 years of collegiate coaching experience to RMU. Hicks’ numerous accomplishments include helping Delta State win games in the Division II Tournament in back-to-back years, including reaching the national quarterfinals in 2008. Hicks was an all-conference offensive lineman who helped Washington & Jefferson reach the national championship game as a player. Andrew Richardson (offensive line; Penn State ’05) Richardson is in his ninth season at Robert Morris and was promoted to recruiting coordinator prior to the 2014 season. In Richardson’s time on staff, RMU offensive linemen have claimed seven All-NEC honors, and two Colonials have earned All-America awards. Richardson helped A.J. Dalton improve his craft and earn a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions in 2014. Bill Hurley (secondary; Syracuse ’80) Hurley is in his seventh season on staff at RMU. He has seen Colonial defensive backs take home eight All-NEC honors, five by corners and three by safeties, in addition to a major postseason award. Drafted as a safety in the fourth round of the 1980 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Hurley played two seasons in the NFL with New Orleans and Buffalo. Patrick Shepard (receivers and tight ends; Miami University ’09) Shepard is in his seventh season on staff at RMU. He has coached each of the top two Colonials in the school’s all-time receptions category. In his first five years when he coached exclusively tight ends, Shepard helped RMU earn four league awards at that position. Myles Russ (running backs; Robert Morris ’11) Russ is in his fourth season on staff at RMU. He helped two Colonials to multiple 100-yard rushing efforts in 2014. The RMU alum was named the 2010 Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year after averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Cornelius Coleman (defensive line; Waynesburg ’99) Coleman is in his second season on staff at RMU. Before helping Forrest Mason to All-NEC honors in 2014, Coleman was the assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator at Averett University. He has participated in the NFL-NCAA Coaches Academy on two occasions. Nick McVay (receivers; Otterbein ’13) McVay is in his second season on staff at RMU. After coaching tight ends last year, he will assist with receivers in 2015. He earned three letters at Ohio Wesleyan and Otterbein. Mike Brown (outside linebackers; Mercyhurst ’13) Brown is in his first season on staff at RMU although he was an intern with the program in 2014, assisting the defensive staff. He also previously worked as an intern at James Madison. Codi Casper (safeties; Robert Morris ’15) Casper is in his first season on staff at RMU. He was a defensive back in the Colonial program for the past four years.

2015 Robert Morris Football Game Notes @ Wagner (10/3/15) - Page 9 The Founding Father - The one constant in the first two decades of Colonial football was former head coach Joe Walton. Walton, the former NFL tight end and head coach of the New York Jets, started the program from scratch, completing everything from hiring assistants to purchasing equipment. He was named NEC Coach of the Year four times in 18 seasons and guided RMU to a pair of NCAA I-AA mid-major national crowns during his time on the sidelines. Walton, currently a special assistant to the athletic director at Robert Morris, was inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame in November 2013. Get To The Chopper - A quick glance at RMU’s record when broken down proves how important it is the Colonials get off to a good start in contests. When Robert Morris is leading at halftime, the program owns an all-time record of 89-15 (.856). When trailing at the break, Robert Morris owns a mark of 14-81-1 (.151). Even going into halftime tied is beneficial, as the Colonials own an overall record of 14-9 (.609) in such games. The Magic Mark - Since the Colonials began play in 1994, there have been 77 games in which Robert Morris has scored 30 or more points. In those contests RMU boasts a record of 72-5 (.935), including a record of 43-5 (.896) in games in which the team scores between 30 and 39 points. In games in which the Colonials score 40 or more points, RMU is a perfect 29-0. RMU Football Historical Tidbits - The inaugural running back at Robert Morris, the late Tim Hall (1994-95), rushed for 2,908 yards in his two seasons as a Colonial. Hall still owns the FCS season and career records for yards per carry, with his season record of 8.7 yards per carry set in 1994 and his twoyear career record of 7.4 established in 1994 and 1995 ... Hall also ranks fourth all-time in the FCS in both rushing yards per game (153.1) and allpurpose yards per game (194.8) ... Former Colonial linebacker James Noel (2002-05) ranks sixth in the FCS record book for career tackles per game (10.7), while his career tackle total of 437 takedowns ranks 15th all-time ... Former linebacker and assistant coach Alex DiMichele (2008-10) averaged 10 tackles per game over his three years in a Robert Morris uniform, which ranks 13th all-time in the FCS record book ... Robert Morris has topped the nation in passing defense twice in the past 16 years, based on passing efficiency defense rating. The Colonials topped the charts in 1999 (with a 80.80 rating) as well as in 2006 (with a 88.70 rating). Did You Know? - Robert Morris owns the all-time FCS record for the most consecutive quarters while holding an opponent scoreless. During the 1996 season, the Colonials went 15 straight quarters without allowing a single point. In fact, the record-setting streak occurred at the beginning of the season. RMU posted three straight shutouts -- 20-0 against Mercyhurst (9/7), 38-0 against Butler (9/14) and 7-0 against Towson State (9/21) -- to open the campaign and then held Central Connecticut State (9/28) scoreless for the first three quarters before finally allowing a point for the first time all season. In all, Robert Morris went 234:04 before allowing a point in 1996. RMU went 9-2 (.818) in 1996, claiming a share of the NEC championship, and conceded just 12.9 points per game. The Last Time a Colonial ... Rushed for 200 or more yards in a game: Myles Russ, 246 (10/11/08 vs. Duquesne - span of 75 games) ... Passed for 300 or more yards in a game: Paul Jones, 321 (9/28/13 @ VMI - span of 22 games) ... Passed for 400 or more yards in a game: Rich Demaio, 444 (11/15/03 @ Duquesne - span of 123 games) ... Robert Morris Captains Head coach John Banaszak announced after the team's final scrimmage that four Colonials will serve as captains in the 2015 season.

OFFENSE Redshirt senior Nick Faraci and senior Max Robertson are the team’s captains on offense. Faraci has started each of RMU’s past 37 games at center and was selected as an Academic All-American in 2014. Robertson started 31 games at left guard over the past three seasons, but he was shifted down a spot to left tackle prior to the 2015 season. DEFENSE Redshirt seniors Forrest Mason and Mike Stojkovic are the team’s captains on defense. Mason is a two-time AllNortheast Conference honoree and is one of just five defensive lineman in RMU history to earn multiple allleague honors. He owns 109 tackles and 11.0 sacks in his career. He became the first Colonial defensive lineman to be named NEC Defensive Player of the Week in over 15 years last October. Stojkovic, who served as a captain in the latter half of the 2014 season, was ranked among the top five in the league in tackles per game last year and totaled 82 stops. He owns 137 tackles and 15.0 tackles for loss in a Colonial uniform. The Texas native began his collegiate career at FBS institution North Texas.

Robert Morris On The Airwaves Gameday Colonial football games are heard live on ESPN Radio AM-970 Pittsburgh, the flagship station of Robert Morris University athletics. ESPN 970 and RMU reached a threeyear agreement in the summer of 2013 to broadcast football, men’s basketball and men’s hockey games. The Voice of the Colonials, Chris Shovlin, and color analyst Brian Cleary call the football action. RMU Assistant Media Relations Director Spencer Kowitz joins Shovlin as color analyst for select Colonial road games. "The John Banaszak Show" is on 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Games can also be heard on the station’s website, www.970espn. com, as well as on iHeartRadio. RMU home and league games can generally be seen live for free on NEC Front Row, the conference’s online digital network. The league has added multiple upgrades in recent years, including the ability to transmit live events in HD as well as providing the ability for the viewer to use a DVR-style, in-game real-time rewind feature. Robert Morris will also have at least four games that will air on ESPN3 in 2015: 9/12 @ Youngstown State, 9/26 @ South Dakota State, 10/10 vs. Sacred Heart and 10/31 @ Central Connecticut State. Weekly Segments Coach Banaszak sits down for a weekly chat with playby-play voice Chris Shovlin most Mondays at the All Star Sports Bar & Grill in either Robinson or Canonsburg. Their discussion is aired live on ESPN 970 from 8-9 p.m. Coach Banaszak also has a weekly segment on TribLIVE Radio that generally can be heard on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. A Colonial student-athlete is also usually featured on ESPN 970 during a weekday afternoon.

9 - Number of receptions Kyle Buss posted in his third collegiate contest, breaking the RMU single-game rookie record

Since Robert Morris played its first season in 1994, three former Colonials have appeared in a game in the National Football League (NFL), the most among current NEC members in this span as of August 2015. Many players have “rewritten” record books at various schools. At Robert Morris, however, Tim Hall wrote the record book. Hall rushed for 2,908 yards on 393 carries in his two seasons in a Colonial uniform and was named an All-American by the Associated Press in 1995. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round (183rd player overall) in the 1996 NFL Draft. In 1997, he led the Raiders in yards per carry average with 5.2 and was second in rushing yards to Napolean Kaufman. On Sept. 30, 1998, Hall was shot and killed in Kansas City at age 24. Hank Fraley, who played on the offensive line for Robert Morris from 1996-1999, carved out a niche for himself in the NFL for over a decade. Fraley was a three-time Mid-Major All-American during his years at RMU before he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a free-agent contract in April 2000. Fraley was later claimed by the Eagles and started at center for Philadelphia for the entire 2001 season, helping the team to the 2002 NFC Championship game. For four straight seasons with Fraley starting at center from 2002-05, the Eagles appeared in the NFC Championship game. In 2005, Fraley became the first RMU alum to appear in the Super Bowl when he started at center against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Former RMU defensive back Robb Butler played for the San Diego Chargers during the 2004 season and was featured in special teams situations, including returning kickoffs.
