strategies and other efficiencyenhancing measures, such as aerodynamic packages and driver coaching, potential savings in longhaulage are up to eight percent. The R 410 SCR-only vehicle was especially well received, with everyone commenting on its excellent torque. The 410 horsepower SCR engine is the direct replacement for Scania’s 420 horsepower unit. Comments like “very impressed” and “very smooth drive, very smooth gearbox” typified feedback received on the day.

‘Ride and Drive’

event gives Scania’s Euro 6 range a big thumbs up

Road Trucks Limited recently hosted a hugely successful Ride and Drive event over four days when Scania’s new Streamline Euro 6 range of fuel and environmentally efficient trucks got a big thumbs up from those attending. Road Trucks showcased three tractor units: an R 410, two R 450s and an R 580 V8, all with cutting edge Euro 6 engines fitted and capable of delivering up to eight percent savings on fuel costs. Larne provided the venue for two of the days when existing and

prospective customers braved the winter weather to test drive these latest-generation Scania trucks. Equipped with a new version of Scania Opticruise, the two-pedal vehicles on display featured a choice of performance modes. To maximise fuel savings, the new Economy

mode is integrated fully with Scania Active Prediction, a predictive cruise control system that uses GPS and topographical map data to finely regulate speed and which is fitted as standard. By combining Scania’s second-generation Euro 6 engines with these fuel-saving

Owners and operators travelled on the third day to Newry to get first-hand experience of Scania’s next generation of vehicles. Again feedback was very encouraging and those who might have had some reservations, given the new technology on display, had their concerns allayed when they found out that over 5,000 Euro 6 vehicles have been sold Europe-wide to date, and are performing excellently. Now on to its second generation of Euro 6 engines, Scania is confident its products will maintain the high standards that are synonymous with the brand as well as deliver real savings on fuel costs. The event concluded on day four at the Road Trucks site in Omagh where feedback was equally encouraging. All in all around 100 owners and drivers attended the four day event which was deemed a massive success by Road Trucks’ Managing Director John Marks who said, “Scania was leading the way on fuel economy at Euro 6.”
