ITALY
A note from us...
We are Inna and Evan. We have many titles: photographers, videographers, dog parents, but most importantly husband and wife. Our first trip together was to Utah and since then we’ve fallen in love with traveling and want to help other couples make the most of their romantic getaways.
Our first experience in Italy was summer 2022. After getting married in Paris with our closest family and friends, we took a short flight to Naples to begin our honeymoon adventure. We had a carefully laid out itinerary to travel from the south in Positano, through Rome, Venice, all the way to the north in the Dolomites. Unfortunately, our first stop in Positano didn’t exactly begin as planned. Our luggage didn’t make it, and me (Inna) arrived in town nauseous from the winding cliffside taxi ride and begging the driver to pull over. Thankfully, our troubles quickly subsided when we arrived at our “room with a view” at Hotel Albergo California. One look outside our balcony overlooking the endless mediteranian horizon was enough to make us fall in love with our decision to come to this country. Suddenly, our lost luggage was nothing but a tiny blip in our lives and we were committed to enjoying our trip whether we got our belongings back or not. That’s the beautiful thing about Italy -- despite all of it’s chaos which you will surely experience, it’s a place that will also remind you to slow down, sip on a glass of red, and enjoy this fleeting thing called life. That’s one of the reasons we believe it’s a perfect destination for couples planning their honeymoon, wedding anniversary, or simply a romantic getaway to reconnect with each other.
Since that incredible trip, we’ve had the incredible opportunity to travel back to Italy on two other occasions -once to Florence, Tuscany and Cinque Terre, and another time to Sorrento, Capri and Ischia. By our third trip, we felt a little bit like locals, no longer overwhelmed by the complex train system or the crowds, but traveling through the country with ease and a good idea of what is worth experiencing and what might be a tourist trap.
That’s why we’ve made this guide - for you! We want to share our experiences and knowledge to help you plan the perfect couples trip to Italy and (hopefully) you can learn from us and avoid making some of the same mistakes that we made. This is only the first of many travel guides we will be sharing with all of you, so thank you for joining us on this quest, trusting us to help you with your trip, and we hope you’ll stick around for the next one!

Cruising along the Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is a string of picturesque seaside towns along Italy’s southern peninsula - and it’s a must if you’re visiting Italy on a romantic trip! Our very own honeymoon started off in Positano, and we’ve since had the chance to also visit Sorrento, Capri, and Ischia. We’re hopeful that this guide helps you enjoy the coast and all it has to offer.
So, where should you stay? We highly recommend choosing Sorrento as your base point, for its easy access to ferrys, trains and other amenities!
We loved the convenience of being able to hop on a train at the Rome airport and get off just steps away from our airbnb. We were immediately enamoured by the historic architecture, cliffside villas, and the lively town square that was perfect for people watching and a morning coffee. A short walk down the cliffside staircase and we were at the water with numerous beach clubs to enjoy.
With Sorrento, you get all the benefits of a city: restaurants, transportation, nightlife, but with all the beauty and charm of a small Italian coastal village. Sorrento is also a great base for exploring the rest of the Amalfi Coast. There are ferrys going to Capri, Ischia, Maiori, Naples, Positano, and Procida. We did day trips to Capri and Ischia, two incredible islands
with plenty of adventures to offer.
While you do have the option of staying in Positano, be aware that it is a much smaller town with less conveniences, more crowds, and it is more expensive and difficult to reach. If you’ve decided to stay here for your trip, we have a few recommendations on the next page that will make your stay worthwhile!
So, are you ready to plan your dream Amalfi coast trip?
We’ve got a whole list of accomodations, excursions, restaurants, and tips on the next page! Whether you are looking to relax by the sea, hike among the hills, dine in some fine Italian Osterias, or simply take in all that Southern Italy has to offer, you’ll find it on the coast. We loved our experiences here, and we’re excited to spill our secrets so that you can have a stress-free trip that’s memorable for all the right reasons.
Happy Planning!
Did you know Vesuvius (pictured here) is an active volcano? You can reach the top via a guided hike on a day trip to Naples.WHERE TO STAY IN SORRENTO
THE LUXURY PICK
Maison La Minervatta
If there is one view you will remember for the rest of your life it’s one of Mount Vesuvius towering above the cobalt coloured sea. This hotel, besides being incredibly chic, will give you the chance to wake up and fall asleep to stunning views of the famous volcano. A number of the suites come with panoramic balconies, as well as a communal terrace and a private beach. While it is on the pricey side, it’s one of those stays you’ll remember for the rest of your life and in our opinion, well worth the splurge for a honeymoon or anniversary, even if it’s just for a couple of nights!
THE MODEST PICK
Admiral Hotel Sorrento
Want the gorgeous views without the luxury price tag? This 3 star hotel is just outside of the city centre and offers views of the bay of Naples and Vesuvius. We really recommend grabbing a room with a sea view and balcony! The hotel is situated on a cliffside path that is great for a sunset walk in both directions. You’ll be a 20 minute walk from the city centre and a 4 minute walk from the beach at Marina Grande. Keep an eye out for an abandoned vintage car along the way situated on a cliffside parking lot -- it makes for a great instagram moment! This hotel also features a buffet breakfast and a pool with a view.
THE BUDGET PICK
Vrbo
We had a great experience using Vrbo where we found a spacious apartment overlooking the sea at a very reasonable cost! This Vrbo has the most beautiful terrace where you can relax with a good book and enjoy the sunshine. The road it is located on is only a 15 minute walk to the city centre, and it is incredibly scenic with panoramic views of the sea and Vesuvius.
WHERE TO STAY IN POSITANO
THE LUXURY PICK
Le Agavi
If you’re looking for a luxurious and relaxing stay away from the crowds, Le Agavi will not disappoint. You’ll have access to a private beach club, private marina, a scenic funicular (we’re not kidding!), heated pool, and rooms with spacious balconies and unreal views. This hotel really has it all, and it’s on the quieter side of town that we personally enjoyed more. The city centre is only a scenic 15 minute walk away, so you can easily pop into town anytime you’d like or take the free shuttle. Either way, the location is ideal and we know every penny will be worth spending on a stay here!
THE MODEST PICK
Hotel California Positano
We’re always looking for accomodations that boast incredible views and this one has just that. While it is situated in a very busy area, there’s a reason people love to come here. You get arguably the best view of Positano, access to incredible restaurants and bars, and a short 13 minute walk away from the city centre. The downside is that there is no private beach, but you can always reserve a lounger at the infamous Spiaggia di Positano! Buffet breakfast is included.
THE BUDGET PICK
Affittacamere B&B Il Canneto Positano
While accomodations in the city centre and near the beach are going to be pricey, you’ll find more affordable options on the hillside. This adorable B&B has simple rooms with balconies, a buffet breakfast, panoramic bar, and free parking! If you want to get to the city centre, there is a bus that stops in front of the hotel. This is a budget friendly option with all the basic amenities you’ll need for a comfortable stay.
WHERE TO EAT IN SORRENTO
A NICE NIGHT OUT
Casa Tua Sorrento
We knew this place was cool when the local Italians started showing up. Tucked away on a quiet street, this place offers homey Italian classics and seats on the cobblestone sidewalks.
OUT TO LUNCH
Fauno Bar
Usually we don’t recommend restaurants in main squares, but this one is the exception. It has a chill atmosphere and plenty of opportunities for entertainment in the form of peoplewatching. The food is great, too! You’ll find pizza, pasta, seafood and if you’re craving french fries, they’ve got that too.
ON THE GO
N’hambu
If you’re craving a burger, fries and caesar salad, this is the place to go. It’s a little shop with interesting twists on the classic hamburger. You can take it to-go and sit down by the marina, or pull up a chair outside the shop!
CAFFEINE FIX
Bar del Carmine
We love this little cobblestone espresso bar featuring outdoor seats and all kinds of caffinated beverages. If you’re in need of a morning or mid-day caffeine boost, Bar del Carmine is worth a visit.
WHERE TO EAT IN POSITANO
A NICE NIGHT OUT Ristorante Bruno
This Positano staple is one you won’t want to miss out on. With cute dining tables overlooking Positano’s gorgeous landscape, you’ll be having an authentic italian dinner while overlooking the mediterraean! Make sure to call ahead for reservations as this place gets booked up quick.
OUT TO LUNCH
Il Fornillo
What could be better than an Aperol Spritz as you look out at Positano? Il Fornillo is your perfect chill lunch spot with a view. You’ll be able to try fresh seafood, italian classics like cacio and pepe, and for all the vegetarians out there, you’ll find something delicious on the menu too!
ON THE GO
Palatone Grocery
Want to grab something to go as you head down to the beach or on a daytrip? This sidewalk grocery store has you covered with delicious sandwiches made to order and other italian homemade goods.
CAFFEINE FIX
Collina Positano Bakery
We came here every morning, evening and anytime we craved an affogato. This cafe and bakery is your go-to breakfast spot while you’re in town, serving up drinks, baked goods and unforgettable gelato.

CAPRI
Ferry Ride from Sorrento: 21 minutes
Frequency: Every day
When you get there: Take a walk towards Giardini di Augusto, a gorgeous botanical garden you can explore for only 1 Euro. After you’ve explored the gardens walk towards the Capri Overlook near Via Krupp. This is where you’ll see the famous sea stacks Faraglioni di Capri. On this side of the island you’ll find plenty of beach clubs and restaurants you can enjoy. If you are unable to walk up flights of stairs, it is best to take the Capri funicular.
Luxury Beach Club: La Fontelina
Budget Beach Club: Torre Saracena Spiaggia Ristorante Bar
ISCHIA
Ferry Ride from Sorrento: 1 hour
Frequency: Every day
When you get there:
Ischia is best explored by e-bike or scooter. When you arrive at the port there are a number of e-bike rental shops available along Via Iasolino. We recommend taking the path towards Castello Aragonese d’Ischia, a stunning castle you can explore on foot. Then, you can stop in at O Sole Mio Francesco for a homey Italian lunch. After, head down to one of the beach clubs we recommend below and enjoy a relaxing dip in the sea!
Luxury Beach Club: Hotel Club Scannella

POSITANO
Ferry Ride from Sorrento: 57 minutes
Frequency: Every day
When you get there:
The best view of Positano is hands down from the water, so as you’re taking the ferry in, pull out your camera and make sure to take a photo! If you’re only spending a day here, we recommend grabbing food at one of the restaurants we mentioned above, doing some leisurely walking through the many ceramic and clothing shops, and then enjoying a relaxing day on a lounger at the infamous Positano Spiagga. Positano is built on stairs and steep cliffs, so we believe less is more when it comes to activities here, otherwise you may feel exhausted.
Luxury Beach Club: La Scogliera Positano
Budget Beach Club: Positano Spiaggia
NAPLES
Ferry Ride from Sorrento: 42 minutes
Frequency: Every day
When you get there:
Exploring Naples is an adventure and it can feel overwhelming trying to see everything in one day. We recommend focusing on one very lively neighbourhood: Rione Sanita For history and architecture buffs, visit Palazzo dello Spagnolo and Ipogeo Dei Cristallini before heading out for lunch at our favourite pizza spot, Pizzeria Concettina ai Tre Santi. While Naples isn’t known for its beach clubs, you can end the day by grabbing a coffee or a glass of wine at it’s Coffee & Wine Bistrot This adorable place has speciality drinks, baked goods and light bites and outdoor seating to enjoy. It’s also conveniently located near the ferry terminal, so you can time your visit as your heading back to Sorrento.
Amalfi Coast Bucketlist Itinerary
THREE UNFORGETTABALE EXPERIENCES TO ADD TO YOUR ITINERARY
• When in Sorrento, spend a day at Marameo Beach Club! It is a picturesque spot to swim, lounge, and grab drinks and lunch. The water is crystal clear and the perfect temperature to cool off in the summers! Chairs and umbrellas get taken quickly, so it’s best to get there early in the morning to ensure a spot on the deck.
• Hike The Path of The Gods a coastal trail that winds its way through green hills, terraced farms, and scenic vistas of the meditteranian. This trek is for those who are active and able to walk up steep stairs. Time your visit for morning or late evening (sunset), to avoid the crowds. Hiking paths begin from Amalfi, Positano or Nocelle. For an extra special experience, we recommend doing a gastronomic hike with a guide through Airbnb experiences. You’ll get to enjoy cheese, bread, and local food tastings along the way. We’ve linked our favourite tour guide here, who also happens to put together special picnics for honeymoons and anniversaries!
• Take a sunset cruise from any Amalfi coast town you’re staying in! These towns are often best seen from the water. Make sure to book a cruise through an official provider, not through Airbnb experiences. The boat operators on Airbnb often can’t access the marina if there is a lot of boat traffic. We recommend trying these providers instead, and all of them provide special arrangements for honeymoons, proposals, and anniversary celebrations!

When we arrived in Rome, tirelessly rolling our suitcases over the cobblestoned streets to get to our guesthouse, we didn’t have too many expectations outside of seeing the major landmarks. To our pleasant surprise, Rome exceeded those expectations by a mile and we fell in love with this place. We attribute our memorable stay to the lively little neighbourhood we settled down in: Monti. We’ve compiled our favourite finds that will leave you seeing more from Rome than the Vatican or the Collosseum (although, these are pretty cool too).
Where to Stay
Your experience of Rome will be largely influenced by the neighbourhood you stay in. We believe a great neighbourhood is one that is livel, beloved by locals, and most importantly, has an array of great food and wine bars. We’ve discovered two neighbourhoods that fit the criteria.
The first is Monti, which feels a bit like a hidden refuge full of cute street bistros and bars, being that it is only a few minutes walk to major attractions like the Colloseum and the Trevi Fountain.
The second is Trastevere, an energetic yet humble neighbourhood full of great trattorias, bars, and centuries-old architecture.

You’re also next door to some of the best restaurants in town, Aroma Restaurant and The Court Mixology bar.
THE MODEST PICK

WHERE TO EAT IN ROME
A NICE NIGHT OUT
Trattoria Cadorna
This spot offers authentic Roman cuisine, coupled with the warm and cozy ambience of an Italian grandma’s kitchen. You’ll find many of your favourite italian dishes here.
OUT TO LUNCH
Trapizzino Trastevere
Nestled in the popular Trastevere district, this spot is a gastronomic delight with their innovative take on traditional Roman street food. Their infamous trapizzino is a little bit like a samosa with your choice of various italian stuffing and flavours inside.
ON THE GO
Trieste Pizza Roma
If you’re craving roman style pizza, this no-fuss spot will absolutely satisfy at only 5 euros a slice. Our personal favourites were the Cipolla and Ferfellone (vegetarian), and Passita and Speck for all the meat lovers.
CAFFEINE FIX RETRO Vino & Caffe
At RETRO we had one of the best coffees we have ever had. Doubling as a wine bar and restaurant, you can find pretty much anything you need here, but trust us when we say you have to stop by for an iced coffee or cappuccino. Take it to go and wander along the banks of the River Tiber or the historic Piazza Navona.
HAPPY HOUR
Libreria Caffe Bohemien
This tiny little bar on a cobblestone street feels a little bit like stepping into someone’s secret living room. Lined with books from floor to ceiling and a cozy fireplace to sit beside, every detail creates a homey atmosphere that will make you want to stay a while.
Zia Rosetta
Hands down, our favourite drinks and snack pairings. Be sure to try their Italian aperitif, the Hugo. A delicous blend of prosecco, elderflower syrup, selzer and mint leaves. The menu also includes the most delicious bite-sized sliders that are a must-try!
FIVE UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES TO ADD TO YOUR ITINERARY
• Join a sunrise e-bike tour of Rome to experience the magic of the city all to yourself. This was easily one of our favourite experiences we’ve ever had in Italy because it allowed us to see all of Rome without the depleting our energy. If you’ve never been on an e-bike, that’s okay, you’ll easily be able to get the hang of it. Rome is very hilly, so this mode of transportation allows you to zip around the city enjoying the sights without having to peddle up any hills.
Our tour took us through historic Roman monuments like the Trevi fountain, Colosseum, Pantheon, the Aventine keyhole, and ended with coffee at the infamous Sant Eustacchio cafe where Nespresso was concieved.
• Visit The Forum during the last hour or two of operation. The crowds are gone, the sun isn’t as strong, and it’s a truly enjoyable evening walk admiring ancient Roman ruins. Out of all the touristy places we visited, this was our favourite. We especially loved going up to the top of the hill to see a panoramic view of Rome at sunset.
• Make time for the Trevi fountain at sunrise! This spot gets extremely crowded during the day, so if you’d like to admire this stunning fountain without bumping shoulders, coming early in the morning is the move. While this is one of the most popular places people visit, we found it to be worth seeing and even more magnificent in person.
• Book a romantic spa day and couples massage at QC Termeroma For 50 euros, you’ll have access to their many spa, sauna and bath facilities. European vacations tend to have a lot of walking and adventure packed in the schedule, so we believe having a day to relax and just enjoy each other’s company is a must.
• Rent a rowboat at Villa Borghese Lake in Rome. This little lake features a stunning temple, and many resident ducks and turtles. It’s a quiet, peaceful oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city. Make sure to have euros on you as they only take cash at the entrance. The cost is 3 euros per person for 20 minutes.
Pictured here: The Roman Forum , once a bustling place for important celebrations, public speeches, elections and government proceedings.
Somewhere in Tuscany...
The land of cypress trees, hidden hot springs and the best wine Italy has to offer.
Renting a car and driving to the Tuscan countryside is a must for any couple coming to Italy on their honeymoon. We recommend staying overnight in B&B having at least 3 days to explore this magnificent region.
Part of the magic of doing a roadtrip here is the frequency with which you can stumble on picturesque locations entirely by accident. So many of gorgeous of the Cypress-tree lined roads and stone walled villas are just pull-offs on the side of the highway. And when you’ve captured all your perfect instagram moments, there’s always a winery or osteria or trattoria nearby that you can pop in for a glass of wine and a traditional italian meal.
Our recommendations for this region are focused around enjoying the little things in life - food, wine, and relaxation.
WHERE TO STAY IN TUSCANY
THE LUXURY PICK
The Club House
This 5-star Tuscan villa nestled in the countryside has everything you need for the most picturesque, relaxing, and romantic stay. If you are looking for that once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon experience you won’t be disappointed booking this stay. It features a swimming pool, hot tub, sun terrace, tennis courts and more. We think it’s worth the price tag!
THE MODEST PICK
Antica Dimora, Monteroni d’Arbia
This old tuscan home is located in the cute village of Monteroni d’Arbia. With just a short drive outside of the village you’re fully immersed in the Tuscan countryside! The holiday apartment itself has an adorable backyard, classic Tuscan kitchen and decor, and optional breakfast addon. We think this is a great mid-budget option.
THE BUDGET PICK
Sangallo Park Hotel
If you’re traveling on a budget, we’d recommending booking a stay in Siena as your home base. Sangallo Park hotel offers comfortable rooms, a free breakfast, and even a pool! And if you don’t have a car, there are busses that connect you to Siena’s old town and the train station (although we definitely feel a having a car is a must for exploring Tuscany properly!)
WHERE TO EAT IN TUSCANY
A NICE NIGHT OUT
Ristorante Il Feudo
Open only on weekends, this Italian restaurant is located in the historic square of Monteriggioni. We loved coming here and exploring this oneof-a-kind medieval walled city after our meal.
OUT TO LUNCH
Poggio Amorelli
Come here for the wine, stay here for the views. At this family-owned private winery, you’ll be dining with panoramic views of the countryside. Be sure to buy tickets in advance to gain entry to this exclusive winery.
ON THE GO
Bar Panini Porchetta Salumi Formaggio
This little side-of-the-road establishment is known for their fresh sandwiches. Grab one to go and keep exploring, or sit down and enjoy your meal at their outdoor patio.
HAPPY HOUR
Antinori nel Chianti Classico
When wine and architecture meet, they look like this place. Book an experience at this otherworldy winery that resembles something out of a sci-fi novel.
Our favourite hot spring in Tuscany...
We discovered the most underrated natural hot spring baths nestled in forest, and we think it’s best way to spend an evening in Tuscany! The White Whale hot springs are a series of tiered turquoise pools cascading into a river. They range from extremely hot near the top, to comfortably warm closer to the river. We spent nearly 4 hours hopping between the different pools and loved every minute of it! These pools are lesser known than the popular Saturnia hot springs so you’ll likely have a pool all to yourself.
To get there, click the link above, and park along the road on Via Fosso Bianco. The signs to the baths are clearly marked and they are just a short 2 minute walk down the trail. After you’ve had your soak, grab dinner at Osteria Lo Spugnone just a short walk away.
WHERE TO STAY IN FLORENCE
THE LUXURY PICK
Villa Cora
If you’re looking for a glamorous, old-world european atmosphere, Villa Cora is the stunning hotel you need to try. It has all the modern luxuries you’ll need, and it’s set right beside the stunning Bobolino Gardens. Shuttles into the city centre are available every day.
THE MODEST PICK
Vrbo Holiday Apartment
If you want the quintessential city view on a budget, the best way to get it is through Vrbo. Many apartments have sun terraces or balconies so you can enjoy the florentian rooftops, like this one! We also think this is the best way to “live like a local” and discover the authentic side of the city.
THE BUDGET PICK
Albergo San Giovanni
If you don’t need a ton of luxuries, but you value an amazing location and great views, this hotel can’t be beat! It’s a stone’s throw away from the incredible Duomo, and pretty much walkable to everywhere else in the city. It’s also a 14 century Florentine building, so you’ll feel like you’re in living in the Renaissance.
WHERE TO EAT IN FLORENCE
A NICE NIGHT OUT
Il Santino / Il Santo Bevitore
This intimate hole-in-the-wall restaurant has a delicious selection of wines, appetizers and light food. It’s sister restaurant next door, Il Santo Bevitore is equally as wonderful with a bigger selection of Tuscan dishes. Either way, we love them both and highly recommend making a reservation in advance because seating fills up quick!
OUT TO LUNCH
Rooster Cafe Firenze
Come here for the wine, stay here for the views. At this family-owned private winery, you’ll be dining with panoramic views of the countryside. Be sure to buy tickets in advance to gain entry to this exclusive winery.
ON THE GO
Panini & Vini
This little side-of-the-road establishment is known for their fresh sandwiches. Grab one to go and keep exploring, or sit down and enjoy your meal at their outdoor patio.
Our favourite experiences in Florence...
• Book an e-bike tour via Airbnb experiences to explore the stunning hills of Fiesole, a town famous for its Etruscan and Roman ruins, as well as being the home of Leonardo Da Vinci. On an e-bike you can effortlessly zoom up and down the steep hills and enjoy the stunning scenery. This town also has (in our opinion) the best view of Florence!
• The Giardino delle Rose (Rose Garden) was so beautiful it quickly became part of our daily routine. Bring a blanket, some wine, charcuterie and a book, and you’ll be set for the most relaxing day sunbathing among the roses. This garden also has a lovely view of Florence as well as an outdoor bar and patio near by for cold refreshments.
WHERE TO EAT IN CINQUE TERRE
A NICE NIGHT OUT
Trattoria dal Billy
This Italian joint overlooking the cliffs of Manarola is as beautiful as it is delicious. You’ll definitely find some seafood favourites on the menu here, all fresh and local, but be sure to make a reservation if you’re going for dinner. Especially if you want a seat on the outside terrace so you can enjoy the views!
OUT TO LUNCH
Bar e Vini a Pie de Ma
Hop over to gorgeous town of Riomaggiore (just a few stops away by train) to eat at this lovely seaside restaurant. We can’t help but recommend spots with incredible views because it really makes every meal that much better when you’re looking out on the Mediterranean. This spot has all your Italian favourites, and as most places in this area plenty of fresh seafood options.
ON THE GO Fooderia
This tiny window shop has a great variety of sandwiches, and the seaside speciality we personally recommend: fried calamari in a cone. Grab one for the road with an ice cold drink, and head down to the Manarola Marina to enjoy views and an evening swim.
Cinque Terre
SIX UNFORGETTABALE EXPERIENCES TO ADD TO YOUR ITINERARY
• There are a lot of amazing spots to swim across the numerous Ligurian villages, but we wanted to share one of our favourite and most relaxing beach clubs with you: Scoglio di Monterosso. You can pay for a beach chair and umbrella for around 20 euros, and you’ll have access to shimmering crystal clear waters, change rooms, and a bar. If you happen to pack goggles, you’ll be able to see plenty of fish swiming underneath you! As always, get there early because these small beaches fill up quick in the summers!
• Some of the most picturesque swimming spots that you see on Instagram are not always the most comfortable locations to lounge all day due to the hard rocks, but we definitely think this one is worth it when you need a quick refereshing dip on a hot summer day! In Manarola, you can take a swim off the rocks near the marina and have epic views of the cliffside village as well as a very cool large rock. Make sure your partner has their camera ready because the photos from this swim spot are truly one of a kind.
• If you’re on a honeymoon or wedding anniversary trip, we recommend making it extra special with a luxury charter. Charter Portofino is the best of the best and they’ll take you on a scenic day trip to enjoy the sights from the water, swim, and provide you with high quality food, drinks and snacks. Not to mention, their boats are really beautiful and you’ll definitely feel like you’re in a James Bond movie for a day.
• If booking a private boat isn’t in your budget, we recommend hopping on this small group sailing tour of the 5 villages. You’ll get to admire the scenic views and eat all the foccacia your heart desires. The guide will find you a perfect place in the protected marine park for a swim, and even teach you how to steer a sailboat! We think seeing these coastal towns from the sea is a must, and this experience will be a memorable part of your trip!
•If you’ve read other parts of this guide, you know we love a good e-bike tour. Riding an e-bike is one of the most enjoyable experiences because you hardly have to exert any energy, but you get to enjoy all the sights, sounds and sunshine. This amazing tour takes you on an adventure through Cinque Terre National Park where you visit an ancient sanctuary and stop for some delicious focaccia and wine on route.
• For all the foodies out there, you can’t go to Italy and not learn how to cook some authentic Italian cuisine! This traditional pesto making class is easy, delicious, and you’ll go home with a new found recipe to incorporate with your next pasta dish. We think food is a great way to immerse yourself into a new culture and you’ll likely meet some new friends while doing this activity!
Journey to the Dolomites
Our trip to the Dolomites made us feel at home. As we drove further into the rugged mountains, it felt like we were in the Rockies back in Canada, except for the restaurants offering schnitzel and beer on every corner. The wonderful harmony of Austrian and Italian culture is evident here, and it was a welcome change from the rest of Italy that tends to be more homogenous in its cuisine and culture. However, we were really here for the mountains, and the hikes, views, and scenery we saw was truly surreal. The jagged mountains, the ever-present sound of cow bells as you hike, and the smell of pine and firs left us at peace. This was the last leg of our own honeymoon trip and it left us in awe of this UNESCO world heritage site.
WHERE TO STAY IN THE DOLOMITES
THE LUXURY PICK
Kolfuschgerof Mountain Resort & Spa
This hotel is an alpine paradise blending luxury and nature into one. It’s also less than an hour’s drive from one of our favourite scenic spots, the Seceda Ridgeline! You’ll have a hard time leaving the resort though, with it’s stunning mountain backdrop, pool and hot tub at your doorstep.
THE MODEST PICK
Antelao Dolomiti Mountain Resort
If you are okay with doing some driving to the scenic hikes, this resort has all the conveniences and comforts you’ll need. It’s very close to the alpine village of Cortina D’ampezzo, and about an hour’s drive to Lago Di Braies and Tre Cime Di Lavaredo.
THE BUDGET PICK Gioz87
This idyllic homestay is surrounded by views of the Dolomites and will definitely make you feel like a local. You’ll even have access to a lovely garden with a firepit for those cozy nights under the stars. This homestay has all the comforts of home like a fully equipped kitchen, fresh linens, free wifi and parking. You will need a car to access this stay.
WHERE TO EAT IN THE DOLOMITES
A NICE NIGHT OUT SanBrite
This Michelin star restaurant has an artfully curated and seasonal menu with a delicious selection of wines. Think farm-to-table, but taken to the next level! The atmosphere and experience are worth the reservation.
OUT TO LUNCH
Rifugio Col Alt
High up in the mountains, this restaurant is reachable by cable car for 10 Euros return trip. Once you’re there, you can sit outside on their outdoor patio and enjoy wonderful views of the Dolomites.

Hikes and experiences to add to your itinerary...
• If you’re staying in the Dolomites for the first time, you must do the Tre Cime hike. The great thing about hiking in this region is that you can enjoy mountain-top views without the difficult uphill climb. The road takes you all the way to the top so you can begin your hike at peak elevation. There are many refugios on-route so stop in for a meal or a beer whenever you need a break! The Tre Cime peaks are truly an other-worldy sight.
• Book a rowboat for a sunrise paddle on Lago di Braies!
This famous lake is known for it’s deep turquoise colour and the experience of paddling first thing in the morning is very peaceful. They don’t take reservations ahead of time, so arrive first thing in the morning to get a spot! 45 minute private boat rental is 50 euros.

How to spend a day in Venice...
• While you can easily find a Gondola tour almost anywhere in this city, we wanted to recommend something a little different. This relaxing boat experience takes you through the hidden canals of Venice, with drinks and snacks on board. We recommend booking this experience one hour before sunset to enjoy golden hour on board.
• One thing you might not know about Venice is that it’s famous for ghosts. There was even a movie about it, “A Haunting In Venice”. There are tons of interesting stories and mysteries surrounding the city and taking a ghost tour is one of our favourite off-the-beaten path activites to do here.
• Hop over to the small island of San Giorgio Maggiore via the Line 1 ferry to visit the most beautiful labyrinth in Italy: Labyrinth Borges. These gardens are peaceful, quiet and a welcome escape from the crowds on the mainland. While you’re there, don’t miss exploring the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore and climbing up the Bell Tower. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance for the Labyrinth.
A DAY IN VENICE
During our trip to the Dolomites, the weather wasn’t exactly on our side with scattered thunderstorms rolling in most evenings. We decided that instead of sitting in our hotel room, we would do a daytrip to sunny Venice which was only an hour an a half drive away! It was completely surreal driving into Venice, and we spent a wonderful day exploring the picturesque canals, nooks and crannies. Venice turned out to be such an easy day trip if you’re already heading to the Dolomites, that we had to include it in our guide!
