About this Poll Data for the Bayt.com Nationalization in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) poll was collected online in March 2015, polling 1,270 respondents from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain.
Study Highlights
Split Views About Unemployment Among GCC Nationals Although the majority of respondents in the GCC believe that unemployment of nationals in their country of residence is low, considerable percentages do believe that unemployment is high. KSA respondents in particular believe so, with 48% of them claiming that unemployment of Saudi nationals is high, followed by Qatar at 39.3% and Kuwait at 37%, and the UAE at 35.2%.
Career Trajectory Among GCC Nationals National talent seems to be employed across all levels in organizations in the GCC, with the majority in their senior management, according to respondents. This could be attributed to the fact that 54% of respondents believe that local talent get promoted faster.
Pay and Benefits Among GCC Nationals The majority of respondents believe that local talent get better pay and benefits when compared to expatriates, with a further quarter believing that pay depends on merit. Only 1 in 10 believe that local talent gets paid less.
Hiring GCC Nationals Hiring GCC nationals to 44.5% of respondents is Easy , with the best way to hire top national talent cited by respondents being through leading career sites .
Effectiveness of Localization Policies in the GCC Localization policies in the GCC appear to be effective, with 58% of respondents saying so, and with only 13.3% of respondents saying that their companies do not plan on hiring more local talent in the next calendar year.
