The region’s quality of life and history and culture also continue to attract new residents of all ages, helping to fuel the real estate and development industry as well.

LABOR FORCE AND EMPLOYMENT The region’s civilian labor force experienced slight gains during 2011, up just 0.5 percent. Total employment, however, grew over two percent, with the region adding more than 6,000 jobs during the year. For the Charleston region, gains are expected in both 2012 and 2013 as the region’s economy expands in each of the next two years.

The magazine also named Charleston as the number three destination in the world, ranking behind Sydney, Australia and Florence, Italy.

TEVE E ARCO – Having lived in Charleston for over 35 years, I have experienced the growth of Mt. Pleasant, the rebuild of the Greater Charleston area since Hurricane Hugo, and the evolution of Daniel Island, where my family and I currently reside. After attending Ole Miss, I pursued my passion of the restaurant industry, which included being the proprietor of The Market Street Mill, Jimmy Dengate’s, and The Griffon Pub where I met my wife of 12 years – Melissa Runey-DeMarco.

I pursued my Real Estate career to allow more time for our family and our 4 active daughters, Alexis, Isabella, Olivia, and Sophia. Our family spends many hours on the soccer fields, tennis courts, game nights, and doing homework! Having both of our extended families nearby, we spend many weekends together at the pool, beach, and at Edisto crabbing and fishing.

SHERYL SCHOLER – Two decades have passed since first writing about my career in real

estate. I’ve seen the days of 11% interest rates, the boom of multiple offers in one hour time, our recent recession, and now the healthy rebound embracing Charleston. Every step of the way, I have loved and encompassed my career in real estate and the marketing that sets it apart. My career has included working in new home construction, the resale market, and as an extension, a marketing company that specializes in Real Estate. That company today still exists (with the help of a great team) and now, is excited to market the listings of Tideline Realty. Our family (including hubby Robert, our C of C student Jordan, son Will and our youngest daughter Molly “Blondie”) enjoyed many years living in Bucks County, PA traveling to horse show competitions and boating at the “Jersey Shore;” however, the minute our eldest graduated high school (the very next day to be exact) the moving van moved us to our very favorite place – Charleston, SC!
