Copywriting and Typography 2015 | Posters, Magazine | A3, A4 Calligraphy is a unique combination of words, images and aesthetics. Akashi is whisky brand in Japan since 1984. The concept of my project is to reflect the brand’s history through a beautiful painted calligraphy work. Together with the lively story illustrated on the bottom of the posters, many would say they could see the quality of the brand and cold smell the rich oaky whisky. “純”, “淳” and “醇” are the traditional Chinese homophonic characters that represent the features of Akashi whiskies. “純正” means pure and sterling. It means the ingredients of Akashi’s whiskies are high quality and made in Japan. “淳厚” means honesty and kind. It can represent the spirit of Japanese, such as conscientious and humility. “醇 ⾹” means mellow whisky. It describes the taste of Akashi’s whisky like smoothness and delicate taste. Character Design for Branding 2015 | Brand Merchandising, 3D-Modeling Skills Application Autodesk Maya, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop The above characters are designed for Akashi, a Japanese whisky’s brand. During the development stage, we analysed the mascots design of the existing market leaders, sketch silhouettes with the different emotion, designed promotional materials, applied in brand merchandising and 3D-modeling. Character branding personalises the relationship between the individual consumer and branding through the dynamic personality of a character, which represents the brand’s service, enhances product’s values, as well as overall brand characteristic. In the project, the inspiration came from the nature ingredients of the Akashi whisky, such as green plum, wheat and corn.

DESIGN INTERNSHIP

Lab by Dimension Plus 2015 - 2017 | Digital Fabrication Skills Application Laser Cut, Letterpress, Vacuum Forming I completed 2-year design internship at a digital fabrication laboratory in Hong Kong. I assisted in developing products with digital fabrication machines, preparing promotional materials, organising creative workshops and maintain the exhibition space. During that period, I explored different possibilities of digital fabrication. I gain a good sense of materials by experimenting various woods, acrylics, plastics, leathers, papers and electronic components. 360° BOOKBINDING WORKSHOP

Coptic Stitch Book Binding City Window was a collaborative project with a Japanese illustrator Yosuke Yamauchi. We designed a 360° book with a series of illustrations. We held laser cut and bookbinding workshops to teach people how to create a 360° book through laser cutter.

Acrylic Mould Making This project was about showing the possibilities of the laser cutter. We created a mould for Adana Letterpress machine with acrylic. We experimented the new ways of making letterpress design and encourage people to turn imagination into real items. People can make their mould within an hour.

P R O J E C T D E VELOPM E N T Among my works, the Paper Folding Homeless Shelter is the most meaningful one. I know more about homeless people through fieldwork and interviews. As Hong Kong is famous for its high population density, there is not enough public housing for the low-income people. Some of them cannot even afford to pay a high property price and become homeless. My goal of this project is to improve their living environment. Providing enough space, light, and fresh air are the main elements of my design.

Environmental and Spatical Studies 2012 | Paper | 1200 x 500 x 300 mm Throughout my schooling in HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, I have been given a chance to learn a lot about origami. I first got some papers and folded them into various patterns, and then I joined them together to form a dress. I discovered the malleability of paper in this exploration.

I Don’t Know Her Name, But I Know Her Work Acetone transfer print on Japanese paper 297 x 420 mm (Image: 242 x 307 mm) Created in response to the ‘Penguins’ print by Margaret Calkin James, 1963

The concept of my work is to respond to Margaret Calkin James’s ‘Penguins,’ but with a cockatiel portrait print. I choose cockatiels because I have four and they are far away. The methodology of creating work today is different to that of 100 years ago. I use both digital and analog methods to develop my ideas.

I appreciate Calkin James’s simple, striking colour palette, geometrical style and repeat patterns. It inspired me to work with repetition and layers. Repetition is one of the most significant features of Calkin James’s works, and I use repetition to connect with her work.

R E P E AT PAT T E R N O F A CO C K AT I E L

‘Penguins’ is printed with three inks separately, so, I illustrated my work in three layers, and each layer contains one colour, yellow, orange and black. Through my work, I tried to express my feelings towards and observation of Margaret Calkin James and created this piece in homage to her work.

2014 - 2017 | Drawing Paper, Sketch Books The functions of my visual diaries are used to keep the inspirations, new things, ideas, testings and working developments. I love collecting things, such as impressive advertisements, posters, beautiful tickets, artrelated items, special name cards and stickers. There were many datas and thinking process recorded in my sketch books and visual diaries. I noted my observations, imaginations, thoughts, experiences, experiments and knowledges. It is very useful when I am organising concepts and working on my school projects.

Snail Voice is a cooperation project of a one-month exhibition with Botanic Garden. The message is to ask people to slow down, explore and experience more like a snail. This project will help visitors to enhance their senses and views. After deconstructing snail into constituent parts, I found that snail are using other senses to feel our world which is good for us to understand things better. My objective is to create people’s interest towards snail. I enjoy the process of exploring snail and the nature environment. I appreciate the aesthetics of a snail, such as the spiral shape, pattern and structure.
