Mon 14 Oct | 6pm • FREE Discover Middlesbrough is this year launched in MyPlace, the multimillion pound state of the art venue and activity centre for and largely designed by young people. Myplace is housed in the old Custom House building, a rare survivor of the old original planned town of the early 19th century but now with a key role in Middlesbrough’s future. Enjoy live music, and refreshments before a free tour of the building and facilities.

She uses a variety of found materials, mainly paper but also natural plant and tree waste materials gathered from the forest floor or moorland and reconstructs them to make human forms. Open to all. MON - SAT 10AM - 4PM 1ST OCT - 31ST OCT FREE Artist John Louis Higgins hijacks October in the name of Halloween 2013, with a series of scary, creepy, weird and wonderful events all month. Middlesbrough will be the base of operations for this festive terrorist, striking across Teesside at a series of venues. The artist’s main exhibition, ‘People Tied to Chairs in Party Masks’, will be showing all month at Gallery TS1, a gallery and shop showcasing emerging and established artists from Teesside. This fascinating exhibition takes a look at one of the darkest chapters in human history and discusses the horror that one person can inflict on another in the name of ‘justice’. It includes displays of over 50 replica torture methods based on objects that have been collected by private collectors and historians across Europe. These include famous contraptions such as the Interrogation Seat, the Witches Chair, the Rack and the notorious Iron Maiden.

The theme of nature is the focus of this exhibition with inspiration taken directly from some of the Dorman Museum’s finest local taxidermy specimens, a few of which are on display to compliment Dennis’s outstanding work. Aided by national and local funding, the museum has purchased a collection of works by Christopher Dresser, the founder of Linthorpe Pottery. As work progresses to redesign the existing Linthorpe gallery to incorporate the new collection, a small selection of Linthorpe Pottery is on display in the ground floor corridor. With over 30 visual artists resident in spaces across Tees Valley, Navigator North will be opening its doors to visitors for the first time. Meet a range of artists from photographers, to sculptors and painters. Visit artist studios, see our event spaces and maybe even make a print in The Print Room. Navigator North, are an arts organisation which aims to ‘explore the connections between artists, spaces and audiences.’

Tours of Myplace, a state-of-the art £4.3 million venue and activity centre whose internal design and programme was created by young people for young people. Housed in the Customs House, one of the oldest surviving buildings of the original planned town and now very much supporting the future of Middlesbrough.
