Responsive Architecture:
Is a growing field of architectural practice and research, is the one that measures actual environmental conditions (via sensors) to enable buildings to adapt their form, shape, color or character responsively (via actuators).
The Origami Pixel:
The origami pixel is conformed by a radial symmetry that makes possible the extended repetition in a plane, around a common point. In an square shape, any of the four corners could work as a rotation point, which allows to generate differents shapes around just one pattern.
The Function:
The system is designed to make it react in the presence of solar light. The facade, conceived as an origami structure, has the property to be able to close down at the moment the sensors detect the incidence of solar light.
