HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT? TEACHING STYLES
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Each module has weekly lectures and tutorials. Some also involve computer labs, or student-led seminars.
We use several methods, including:
• Lectures: You’ll be in a lecture theatre, listening and note taking. While there are many students at lectures, they’re often interactive sessions, with an opportunity to contribute and ask questions • Tutorials: Usually around 16–18 students, who discuss and analyse prepared work. A great chance to ask questions and check you understand difficult concepts, as well as take part in lively debate and challenging interactive activities • Computer Labs: Usually run by a lecturer or tutor, labs may include a business simulation, or working through an IT package that supports learning in that module • Seminars: Similar to tutorials in number and content, but different in that they’re often student-led. These can include a presentation by students, and discussions run by students with the support of a tutor.
• Coursework • Continuous assessments • Examinations • Case study work • Analysis of empirical research • Presentations • Taking part in business simulations • Group work
HOW MUCH WORK IS THERE? As a full-time student, you can expect to devote around 35 hours a week to study.
INDUCTION WEEK The week before your course begins, you will attend a Course Induction Session. This gives you information essential to your course, and is a chance to meet members of staff and mix with students from your course. You’ll also hear presentations from past and current students about their experiences, and have an opportunity to chat with them. During the first week of your course, you will attend introductory lectures for each module in your first semester. This provides you with an overview of the subject area, and explains the structure, content, delivery and assessment of the module. You also receive further course information during this week. Tutorials begin in week 2.
Within this time, around 12–14 hours are in the classroom as part of lectures, tutorial or computer lab sessions. The remaining hours are for private or group study, class preparation, research and writing up notes.

All undergraduate programmes at Aberdeen Business School include the opportunity for a period of study abroad with one of our 60 international partners in Europe, North America and beyond. Our Study Abroad programmes offer additional educational and cultural experiences – but all as part of your accredited qualification with RGU. Many employers have emphasised the value they place on graduates who have some international experience, so it’s your chance to enhance your CV and widen your employment opportunities. The experience, new friends, a different country, climate, culture and language (although all our partners teach and assess in English): these, and many other factors, make it an unforgettable time – wherever you go!
BOOST YOUR
CONFIDENCE
Aberdeen Business School is extremely proud of the international education we offer our students on campus in Aberdeen but we encourage all undergraduate students to consider the additional benefits brought by a period of study abroad.
“I think study abroad is a once in a lifetime experience and you get to go completely out of your comfort zone which helps you to learn not just about yourself, but also about other people from other countries around the world.” Ben Philip BA (Hons) Journalism

Aberdeen is pretty unique in the UK with its cosmopolitan culture, rich heritage and fantastic scenery. It’s got everything you’d expect from a major city – pubs, clubs, restaurants, cinemas, theatres and art galleries – but there’s lots more than that! Aberdeen is one of the best places to be a student according to top student website www. accommodationforstudents. com. With some 31,000 students, you’ll be part of a lively, vibrant student-friendly city, with great shops, pubs, nightlife, live music and gigs. Aberdeen has also been ranked as one of the safest cities in the UK and is one of only two Scottish cities to receive Purple Flag accreditation for its high standard of nightlife safety.
Aberdeen is a great location for skiing and snowboarding with dry ski slopes nearby the campus and during the winter Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray takes on a whole new lease of life with many challenging ski runs, plus some of the best hillwalking in Scotland and loads of great places for canoeing, kayaking and sailing!
Workers in Aberdeen are amongst the highest paid in the UK and enjoy one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country too. (PwC-Demos Good Growth for Cities Index 2016)
