MENTAL HEALTH SOLUTIONS @ RGU: WELLNESS
the professional University
OVERVIEW Mild-to-moderate mental health problems, such as anxiety and stress related illnesses, are among the most common and debilitating conditions in the developed world, leading to excessive morbidity, impairment, and use of health care services. The impact of stress related illness on UK industry is significant; associated conditions directly affected 40% of the entire UK workforce (in 2011/12), and cost an estimated 10.4 million lost work days (full-day equivalent). The cost of this to employers has been estimated as ÂŁ1.24 billion annually. Mental Health Solutions @ RGU: Wellness can provide a comprehensive range of brief, evidence-based interventions designed to deliver a prompt and accessible service to organisations, enabling you to manage mental health issues in an affordable and effective manner. We can work with you pro-actively to manage work-place stress, or we can work with you responsively, providing a service to ensure that your staff get rapid access to treatment for a range of conditions, reducing time lost to your organisation. WHAT WE OFFER Our clinic is staffed by a team of highly skilled mental health professionals experienced in providing therapeutic interventions to people with a range of mental health problems. Our clinic is easily accessible, located in the Riverside East building of the RGU Campus and is supported by a range of other services and staff including Physiotherapy, the Human Performance Laboratory and Imaging Suite, all part of the one-stop experience at RGU Wellness. Proactively, we offer a variety of Mindfulness Based Stress Management services, including an eight-week programme delivered onsite in your premises, a Mind Training programme for personnel involved in high-stress, highly complex operations, and a bespoke service individually tailored to the needs of senior managers. Responsive services include Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Person Centred Counselling (PCC). Mental Health Solutions @ RGU:Wellness are structured around a stepped-tier approach, meaning that the most effective and least intrusive interventions are suggested as the most appropriate first point of contact. We offer packages of SFBT (one 60-minute session followed by four 30-minute sessions), CBT (twelve 60-minute sessions) and PCC (twenty 60-minute sessions).
WE PROVIDE Mindfulness Based Stress Management: Mindfulness training is delivered in a group setting over 60 to 90 minutes and teaches participants to focus their attention on the present moment, in a deliberate manner, without judging the content of their experience. It encourages participants to focus on what is happening now, as opposed to becoming engaged in thoughts of future or past events. Mindfulness training has been shown to significantly reduce stress and anxiety, reduce distraction and increase attention to task, meaning your staff achieve more, and to a higher standard. Solution Focused Brief Therapy: Solution Focused Brief Therapy is an effective intervention for a wide range of psychological conditions including stress, anxiety and depression. Sessions typically focus on the client’s existing strengths and assets (rather than problems and deficits), and therapy aims to establish how the client will know when they have recovered. Detailed planning then works towards achieving the client’s goals in a step-wise fashion. Successful outcomes are reported in between 70% to 80% of cases, and these are typically achieved in half the time taken by other ‘brief’ therapeutic approaches, such as CBT or brief-counselling. Our typical SFBT package includes a 60 minute assessment interview followed by four 30-minute treatment sessions. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is a collective term for a group of therapeutic approaches which focus on helping clients identify their dysfunctional thinking and maladaptive behaviours. Sessions will typically focus on a detailed description of the problem, exploring the client’s beliefs about the problem situation and the anticipated consequences of engaging in problematic activities. Therapy will seek to test the client’s assumptions, and practice more functional or adaptive ways of behaving and thinking. Successful outcomes are reported in between 70% to 80% of cases, and our typical CBT package includes a 60-minute assessment interview followed by up to eleven further 60-minute treatment sessions. Person-Centred Counselling: Person-Centred Counselling is a longer-term therapeutic approach in which, through discussion with the therapist, the client is enabled to explore their sense of self and how that sense is influenced by people and events around them. This approach, unlike Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, aims to help the client understand themselves as a person, as opposed to helping the client simply bring about positive change. Our typical Person-Centred Counselling package includes a 60-minute assessment interview followed by up to nineteen further 60-minute treatment sessions.
