WELCOME 4

WELCOME BACK! Quite honestly, there have been many days over the past two years, since the pandemic hit, when I wondered whether we would ever be able to say those words in a Spry Show Guide again. It’s hard to encapsulate into one perspective what all has happened to all of our respective businesses. Between the initial periods of lockdown, preventing many small businesses from being open, to the overwhelming demand for active outdoor activities, to the ironic shortages of product due to factory disruptions on the other side of the world despite unprecedented demand, I don’t think there is anyone that hasn’t been both negatively and positively affected by what has happened. What kept us positive and emotionally stable was hearing the great stories of how people adapted to the situation and got on with things as best they could. It truly will be great to see everyone at the shows again. We have lots of anecdotal evidence to suggest that the vast majority of our great Spry Community is very much looking forward to the opportunity to buy for their stores in front of real people showing actual samples again! If I got a Dollar for every-time someone said to me “I’m all done with Zoom presentations”, I’d be pretty happy! It’s not that tele-conferencing isn’t a really good tool but it clearly doesn’t replace the face to face meeting environment even close. By the time we get to the timing of the Spry Shows, we will have had an extended period of time with larger events being permitted to take place due exclusively because of the respective Governments’ position that, if they only permit those attendees that are double-vaxed in, then the event is essentially a controlled environment and therefore much less likely to cause a spread. It makes sense and is a way for the Government to get out of the way of permitting business to get back up to speed. I use the Toronto Boat Show as a bell-weather event for large gatherings and they have just been granted permission to run the show in January at full capacity. So I think that gives the Spry Shows a very green light to get back up to speed with this season’s line up of events. The Spry Shows this season are likely going to be a super-rare opportunity to review actual samples of brand Collections. Sales travel is still being limited by some companies along with rising costs of business travel. So we encourage you to take full advantage of the shows to do some buying the “(good) old way”. Also; the Spry Shows will have its exhibitors a little more spread out than before and we may not be able to do quite the same social events but we’ll figure something out to allow everyone an opportunity to catch up with peers, colleagues and associates from across the community. Truly it will be great to see you and we look forward to catching up with how you and your families (business and personal) are doing. It’s been far too long since we chatted!
