NEW! F R E E
Two Years in Internet already. Now on Paper ONE day on October 2009 we started this experiment in internet: useful information, humor, short stories, feature articles and pretty good pictures. Our first article was: Don’t Drink and Drive! Obviously, as well as all civilizied countries, you cannot drink and drive in the Dominican Republic! It is not for the laws or to please local policemen…it’s for you! Your love ones or friends. Common alcohol beverages in the DR are Beer, Rum, Mama Juana (a mixture of bark and herbs left to soak in rum, red wine and honey) and local blended whiskies commonly served in bars, discos or social clubs. Also in ‘colmadones’, a highly popular, and rather curious mix of small supermarkets and bars, where natives gather to socialized. All night life is limited up to 12 o’clock Mondays to Thursdays, and to 2 o’clock Fridays and Saturdays. December and some tourist areas are rule-free though. Although we do not have police control points over drinking drivers, nor sober-designated driver either, alcohol-related traffic accidents account for 70% of all serious injuries or death over DR roads. Please, do not drive under the influence of alcohol! Do not drink tap water either! Locals, even in the most rural areas, will either boil their water or purchase bottled water. Eating salads or other food that may be washed in tap water is not advisable. Ice is a bad idea as well, except in luxury hotels and restaurants (which produce ice from bottled water). If you plan on cooking or washing dishes for longer stays, it is a good idea to rinse everything with bottled or boiled water before use. A modern network of supermarkets are available in major cities [and Punta Cana...] where you can buy mostly all ingredients for your meals.

Some 50 K north lies Uvero Alto, with half a dozen resorts in front of the rather agitated Atlantic waves. One day, some mountain bikers decided to do some trail riding there and, by their surprise... the ocean was so calm that for maybe once in a lifetime, they rode for kilometers over the sand! One hour later: the waves were back.

Help Nature
BRING with you, or buy it in a local store, a portable plastic fridge. A knife (for peeling tropical fruits...) and flash light. Remember some plastic bags to keep them inside the car. Also, pocket money (one dollar bills are always welcome!) and, a non-expensive mobile phone, with your chip, in case of an emergency. Take note of local telephone numbers.
WHEN visiting natural spots in Punta Cana District, you will notice that... natives are not that friendlier with mother nature. Soon you will discover horrible plastic garbage even in the most isolated areas. It is the unfair price we are paying for unplanned, let’s say... ignorance, mass tourism. Please, do not littering. Thank you! Enjoy!
Tenis/Paddle FOR practicing or playing -sadly- we need to buy court time in some of the resorts in Punta Cana District. Maybe in some court in a villa. However, MELIĂ Caribe sometimes allows local residents to play for free. Maybe in some of the tennis courts in RIU Hotel Complex in Arena Gorda...
