FUTURE CLEANING SYSTE Public service robots Bachelor Thesis / WS 2016/17
The emphasis of my work was to pursue the trend of automatic and autonomous vehicles and products. My project demonstrates an autonomous municipal street cleaner with a special focus on workflow, functionality and design.
EM
DECLAR Autonomous driving, especially public transport, has been an issue for years. None the less vehicles which do not transport people have been ignored by this trend.

RATION In addition the issue of waste and cleaning is a big problem in our society. Much of the time streets are dirtied with leaves, debris and trash. The disposal of waste will always be a matter of concern.

MUNICIPAL CLEANING
01
The interview To get a better understanding of the cleaning process and functionality of street sweepers, I interviewed experts at a waste company. In this way I was able to get a closer look at the mechanics of these vehicles. Additionally I learned about problems and could develop ideas for improvement which informed my focus during the design process.

INSPIRATION
Design development I initially started to draw small side views and thumbnail perspectives. During the design process it was important to find an autonomous looking vehicle body.
Keysketch
The Design After I developed a basic form that complied with my requirements, I continued to improve the design. The final sketches helped me to build a 3D model.
1,9 m
DIMENSIONS
2,8 m The vehicle´s size was adapted to the volume of the container and the width of sidewalks. This way the robot can either work on streets or clean footways for pedestrians.
The exchangeable container The container offers a volume of 2,5mÂł. This allows the robot to work for about two or three hours until it has to drive back to the depot. Here the robot deposits his full container and is
immediately supplied with a clean one. While the robot continues it´s work, the full container is being emptied and cleaned.
Storage The container is designed to be stackable. If containers are not in use they can easily be stored this way.

Routing of airflow The robot sweeps the waste under its body where it is vacuumed into the container. The vacuumed air is then released at the back of the container.
Cleaning Mode one The robot can work effectively by rotating its axis. In this way the vacuum can either be postioned perpendicularly with extended sweepers or parallel to the driving direction. Parallel Mode
Cleaning Mode two The perpendicular postion of the vacuum is able to clean larger areas where as the parallel mode is used for sidewalks and narrow streets.
Perpendicular Mode
1:5 Physical model The smaller components of the model were printed 3D. The container and other bigger parts were milled. Before assembling, everything was sanded and lacquered.
HYBRID VEHICLE
Concept Car
Semesterproject / Personal Project/ SS 2016
Volkswagen came up with the idea of implementing adjustable aerodynamic elements for a car. It was my task to develop a futuristic concept. Technical knowhow and producibility where insignificant. My goal was to design a novel looking car with new aerodynamik features.

INSPIRATION
Design development After I finalized my concept, I started to draw small side view thumbnails. Based on these side views, I created various perspectives until I achived my final design.
The Design Based on my sketches I built a 3D model. During the sculpting process I continued to draw more precise photoshop renderings. The new idea: The passanger cab is separated from the outer body.
The Mechanism
AERO MODE
Hydraulic zylinders allow the passanger cab to be adjusted into two different positions. This enables the car to transform into either a pickup or a sports car.
LIFT
During city mode, the car offers extra space for transport. Bigger luggage can be secured through attachment points in the back. Smaller luggage can always be stored in the back of the cabin.

Lightweight vehicle for one person Two month project / SS 2018
BRP was interested in the development of a one-seated lightweight electric vehicle that could be used during all seasons. A batterypack and the size of the motor was predetermined. It was my task to come up with a new innovative design concept.

SIDE / TOP VIEW IDEATION
Design development After fixing the driver´s position I started to design side view proposals and later developed these in photoshop.
SCREEN IDEAS
Refinement Refining the design by exploring surface and color treatment. The idea was to detach the lower body from the upper chassis to emphasize the streamlined and unique character of the vehicle.
ASSEMBLAGE VIEW
FINAL DESIGN The vehicle offers space for one person only. The low driving position offers a new kind of riding experience. The unique aspect of the vehicle is the steering. The vehicle is steered by two side-handles instead of a steering wheel.
DIMENSIONS 1,3 m

STORAGE The side-panel behind the seat can be accessed by a push-to-open mechanism. The volumen offers space for about 30 liters of storage for a big backpack or a small purchase.

A VEHICLE FOR A NON-AU Concept two-seater Two month project / SS 2018
The task was to design a vehicle for a non-automotive brand. In my case I was challenged to design a product for Sony. As a start I had to identify and understand the brand´s value and its philosophy. Based on my research, I designed a two-seated vehicle predominantly for the urban market. IN COOPERATION WITH:

Sketch development After finding the right proportions and size of the car, I began to develop a detailed design of the vehicle. In a later stage, I constructed a 3D model to finalize my ideas.
FINAL SIDEVIEW The final result is a compact two-seater. The side panels of the vehicle wrap around the vehicle enclosing the windows of the car to give the driver a feeling of being encapsulated and escaping from his hectic and stressful environment.

FINAL DESIGN Inside, the vehicle offers enough room to experience and enjoy the digital world of SONY´s entertainment. The compact size allows the user to move comfortably in an urban environment.
