4 Simple steps to becoming a Power Negotiator!!
Most people don’t’ enjoy negotiating. It can feel awkward and for many has a “street haggling” connotation. But it doesn’t have to be uncomfortable or dif=icult. Powerful Negotiating can be an effective tool to save money and resources and who wouldn’t want some more of those in these challenging economic times. In a climate where many of us are faced with economic hardship, being a strong negotiator can make a deciding difference in our pocketbook and lifestyle. Learn these 4 easy steps and save yourself a chunk! 1. Build Rapport If they don’t’ like you they won’t negotiate with you! Find something pleasant to talk about, such as surroundings, kids or something you have in common. You are basically building a bridge, so the person can relate to you and opens up. This will lay the foundation for smooth communication and will build the comfort zone both parties need to step into the negotiating arena.

Ask 5 times! “Hmmm…do you think you can do any better?” “Well….still a little high for me….could you do a little better?” Frame it accordingly, vary your expression and if needed, divert a little from the subject at hand if you sense the other person is getting frustrated. But do come back and stick with the basic question. 4. Never be the Hirst to give a number The old advice still stands! If you are =inding yourself against the wall simply throw a VERY low number and see what they come back with. Don’t be shy! From there you proceed as before with the magic question: “Could you do a little better?” Many times they can and will!
