DESCRIPTION
01VERTICAL GARDEN
Having a green wall will not only add a visual element in the Architecture Building but it will also improve the air quality in the space, aswell as, help cure sick building syndrome. The vertical garden is designed in a way that it creates a warmer feel inside the building. The structures shape is very organic and is a good contrast to the hard lines of the building. The Vertical Garden is undulating from the existing wall in a wave type motion and adds to the organic nature of the installation. The structure is designed to bend and turn at the lowest level to create a space for seating and add warmth to the space.

MASTER PLAN
WIND PIPES: The wind pipes are the key element that goes through all three spaces. The pipes end at the vertical wall, and the sound that is produced in the pipes from the outside is released into space.
PRECEDENT STUDIES:
PLANT DESIGN
Having succulents on the vertical wall, not only will bring interest to the wall, but are also a more sustainable plant to use. Having a plant that uses less water is good for weight issues. The succulents are arranged by grouping the same cultivars together in a way that brings the eye up.

Located in Louisville Kentucky and next to Louisville International Airport, this PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT project focused on planting design that had to meet Federal Aviation Administration guidelines, along with United States Military guidelines. I was hired to provide Construction Documents for a total removal and install planting design. This design focuses on plant selection that does not attract birds or animals along with designing that meets safety regulations set by the United State Military, while providing a beautiful and lush Campus.

Pogue’s Run Art and Nature Park is a wetland flood control facility in Indianapolis that holds excess water flow through a system of three retention ponds. Land as a Canvas employes, three styles of art, expressed creatively amongst the landscape. Three individual art installations mark water levels within each art style, as well as displayed in a vivid collage of planting design along the visitor’s travel throughout the site.
A
Pop Art
creates an emphasis on individual elements that come together to create a cohesive composition. These elements are often tied together through similarity in form and repetition. The individual elements of the composition are distinguished through a palette of bold, contrasting colors. The Pop Art movement is celebrated on the western portion of the site mainly through the colorful contrast of ornamental grasses.

SECTION A - A’
Classical Art is displayed on site with a long,
punctuated colonnade spanning the northern section of the site. A half-scale replica of the Roman Colosseum pronounces the space, activating the hillside, and creating an access to and from the parking zone and formal garden space nearby. A rain garden, moving water from the parking zone, filters down the hillside in a classical stepped style.

Art Nouveau is celebrated in the middle of the site with a focus on curvilinear pedestrian circulation and plant massing. The organic planting forms create a landscape that constantly moves the eye and allows it to wander. The curvilinear circulation at different elevations facilitates elevated views and creates a freeflowing experience that inspires meandering through the space.

M.C. Escher was a world renowned Graphic Artist from the Netherlands. As an artist, he produced several well known pieces that have been seen around the world. This garden will create a space to celebrate his life and art, with providing space for fun activities and relaxation. There is plenty of open lawn space to lie down and relax. The inspiration of the site came from many of his drawing that had to do with stairs and level changes, giving reason to the many grade changes on the site.

Vertical Garden
All of the levels were picked carefully so the levels will play tricks with your eye’s. This is because his drawing had a lot of optical illusions. Each level plays with your eyes to make things look closer or farther than they really are.

THE SPHERE MIRROR
THE SHRINKING TUNNEL
The Shrinking Tunnel creates an optical illusion using land sloping upwards as the trees get smaller going back, to create a vanishing point that appears to be farther way. The Sphere Mirror is a giant reflective sphere that is like a mirror. This is to represent one of his most famous art pieces of him drawing his refection in a sphere mirror. This is the main feature of the garden and will be the area that people can experience a little bit of M.C. Escher themselves.

As a result of a proposed submerged vehicular route, a completely safe pedestrian layer is created. At monument level, the space comes to life with pedestrian activity now allowing visitors to shop, dine, exercise or even relax in assured comfort within the designed space.
Artfully constructed by submerging north/south bound traffic on Meridian Street beneath the current circle space, the experience of riding in a car through the space has new life. Beginning at the intersections on Meridian at Ohio and Washington Street, vehicular travel gradually submerges beneath the pedestrian layer in a display of light and terrific views of the monument.

Pedestrian
Casually ascending from the pedestrian layer on the Monuments northeast side is a pedestrian promenade that travels south around the monument and marries the second story of the southwestern and northwestern building structures at the second story. Generated by this elevated promenade is the ability to access the second level spaces on said buildings to double the retail capacity within Monument Circle allowing a dense, more diverse shopping experience for visitors.

A city is composed of many different functions. Systematically separating those functions produces different “layers” of activity. Within the design, four key layers are expressed: a vehicular layer, a pedestrian layer, a retail layer followed by a diverse vegetation layer. Each described layer plays host to different and unique activities within the space, ranging from shopping at a boutique, biking on the Cultural Trail, grabbing a bite to eat, or simply commuting to work. Regardless of the activity one chooses, each layer comes to life in a blend of culture, art, and energy found in Indiana’s most famous space.
06VISSING COMMUNITY PARK JEFFERSONVILLE, IN SUMMER 2012 DATE INTERNSHIP TYPE RECREATIONAL DESIGN
The city of Jeffersonville, hired Kovert Hawkins Architects to design a community park for the surrounding neighborhoods. The park incorporates multiple activities while also providing a number of sustainable features including rain chains, bio-retention pond, stream riparian zone and all native plants.
VISSING COMMUNITY PARK
Another objective that Kovert Hawkins Architects had for this project was to prove the client with a signage package for the park. I was in charge of the entire design and development of the signage package for Vissing Community Park. The task was to present the client with two concepts that displayed the unique design and functionality of each. The client then picked the displayed signage design.

CAP Field Trips have pleasantly greeted me with the opportunity to study cities within the US from the West to the East. During this time, through guided and self-guided studies, I learned and observed how people used/interacted with spaces, learned how materials are used in different climates and talked to professionals from local firms.

Summer of 2007 and 2011 pleasantly greeted me with an opportunity to do a personal study over seas. During this time, I had the opportunity to study the life and culture of these cities, as well as study the architecture and landscape of different cultures. These trips merely opened the door for exploration beyond the states we live in.
Thank you Attending Ball State University the past five years, and through educational experience in the field of landscape architecture, has made me become a better designer through study and guidance while developing the ability to effectively communicate project ideas. My goal is to apply industrious and steadfast enthusiasm to contribute to your firm’s needs. Thank you for your time and consideration.
