Conference Summary Hospitals That Fight Hunger: Serving Free Meals to Kids is organized by Dietitian Central. Live Date: May 22,2018 Expiration Date: May 21,2021 Number of Credits: 1.0 Description: This webinar is for those who want a better understanding of the connection between hunger and health, to visualize a summer feeding program in a non-traditional space and the steps necessary to implement a program in your community. Lack of access to food contributes to the rising cost of health care, and hunger negatively impacts health. Recognizing this connection, some hospitals have begun to ght food insecurity by implementing existing programs in their non-traditional space. Nutrition professionals are uniquely positioned to encourage such participation in federally funded hunger-relief programs, such as the USDA's Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Just a few years ago, only a handful of hospitals were doing this but there has been an increase in participation of 250% in 3 years, now providing several examples of how summer feeding programs can operate in hospitals. This webinar describes the process of implementing SFSP in healthcare institutions and highlights some innovative examples. Outcome data and resources, including an implementation guide, will also be shared. The goal is to encourage nutrition professionals to be the voice for the hungry and rally more institutions in the ght against hunger!
