ACTS is about offering someone a chance. It’s an opportunity to take control of their life. It’s about transforming vacant houses into vibrant homes. It’s turning renters into owners. Nothing against landlords, but even they’ll tell you that when people own a home they’re more invested in the community. So, we’re not just making dreams come true. We’re making a difference in neighborhoods all over Milwaukee, one home and one family at a time. Because the fact is, families and home owners build stronger neighborhoods. And stronger neighborhoods build better cities. That’s why we believe something as simple as a key to a home can become the key to building a community.

Dear ACTS Supporter, One of the things that comes to mind, when I reflect on 2015, is perseverance. Over the past year it has become increasingly clear to us that ACTS’ families have an incredible capacity to endure difficult times, fight for their families, and overcome obstacles. Matching their strength and effort is the ACTS team; this year our team tackled new challenges and adapted to the dynamic demands of Milwaukee’s housing market. The work we do together is seldom neat, and rarely easy. As anyone purchasing a home knows, there are always surprises – good and bad – and ACTS exists to navigate or celebrate these surprises, to support our families, and help mitigate the obstacles. In return, we are continually impressed by the strength and perseverance of our families. Thank you for all your support. Your contributions to our mission are crucial in supporting strong families, and ACTS’ strong families are the key to rebuilding Milwaukee’s neighborhoods. We are proud to present our first ever annual report. We are excited for the opportunity to present an in-depth look at our work and hope you enjoy reading about the impact of your support.
Sincerely,
Michael Gosman Executive Director
John Linnen Board President

STORIES
CHRISTIAN & LORENA Christian and Lorena beamed with pride as ACTS’ Managing Broker Mary handed them a welcome mat for their new home: “we’re very thankful to Mary, she helped us find the house of our dreams. We are blessed” Lorena explained. Christian and Lorena have been married for eight years, and have spent the last two years searching for a home. “I tried for one and a half years and no one really helped. Now, it’s been easier” Christian explained about their home ownership process.
HA PPI Christian and Lorena found out
to cut down on expenses. They closed in mid-November
about ACTS through their friends,
2015 and completed repairs in February 2016. Christian and
Maria and Luis, who also purchased
Lorena are looking forward to gardening at their new house,

THE BURKES Over thirty friends, family member, community leaders, and reporters gathered in front of a seemingly unassuming vacant property on North 14th st. It was Christmas Day, 2015 and the energy in the crowd was palpable. Everyone was waiting to share the good news with Dakeela Burkes and her family – the news of a new home. Ms. Burkes was in ACTS Housing and the City of Milwaukee’s rent-to-own program, and was set to close on the home she had been renting for nearly a decade when it caught fire six days before Christmas. The house was unrecoverable – with an estimated $100,000 worth of damage. Immediately after the fire, Coretta Herring, ACTS Housing counselor, contacted Alderman Ashanti Hamilton and began making plans -- they wanted the Burkes family to be home for the holidays. They worked out a deal to get Ms. Burkes a new home, closer to her daughter’s school, Rufus King, for $1 in addition to the cost of minor renovations. The family moved in in March of 2016.
