many of the industry’s professionals over the years, he has the necessary edge to best negotiate the sale of your home. Any agent can list your house, but Rob’s knowledge, marketing extensive background and dedication gives clients peace of mind when dealing with the single most important investment in their lives. With years of combined experience, the Golfi Team can provide your home with a level of exposure that most agents cannot. Utilizing a team approach also means that they will likely find a purchaser to buy your home sooner, rather than waiting for other agents to approach you with potential buyers. Movember

Any Contribution is Much Appreciated!

O

ur Grimsby boys are raising money and awareness for prostate cancer. Jeff Golfi, Mat Shanahan, Phil Golfi, Julian York, Dan Golfi, David-Peter Mainse, Matthew Wolfe, Jonathan O'Brien, Andrew DiPietro, Kirstyn Carruthers, Pio Neri, Mitch Gaulton, Angelo Guevera, Darren Kelly, Marc Anthony Tollis, Cody Droughan, all friends that grew up together in the Grimsby area. These boys are halfway through the month of Movember and they are all sporting impressive moustache growth!! One in seven men will be afflicted with prostate cancer -- which is rare for men under 40, where it states on the Movember Canada website, when caught early enough, prostate cancer is 90 per cent curable. Unfortunately, there are no symptoms in the early stages and the only way to detect the cancer is through regular examinations, something many men fail to do. Take a look at the boy's official Movember website -http://mobro.co/FuManNasty, you can see they're having a blast with the month of Movember. Any contribution will be much appreciated.

The Chevron

The Horseshoe

The Handlebar

The Full Beard

Jeff Golfi, Zack George, Mat Shanahan Credit: Amanda Street & the Grimsby Lincoln News.

Popular Moustache Styles Chevron Chevron If the chevron has you thinking of men of the 1970s, you have the right idea. This classic style consists of a full, wide moustache that generally hangs slightly over the upper lip. Worn thick, this look reads masculine but dated. Updating this style involves paying close attention to length, so be sure to keep unruly lengths under control with weekly trimmings.

Horseshoe Horseshoe Resembling an inverted horseshoe, this style consists of a full moustache with growth vertically extending down from the corners of the lips and ending at the jaw line. It is often confused with the fu manchu, where the vertical extensions are downward-pointing and extend beyond the jaw line. This look is a nod to the Old American West and can be a fun, alternative moustache style

Handlebar If you thought that the handlebar was reserved for Mario and Luigi, think again. This style’s popularity is on the rise thanks to hipsters and beatniks. Here, the moustache is grown bushy and long enough to achieve upwardpointing ends. Since the pointed ends are achieved by the use of products, such as styling wax, the look is high-maintenance. Depending on your personality, handlebars can be worn large or small, though today’s version veers towards the latter.

www.golfiteam.com

Full beard The traditional full beard style consists of growth along the upper lip, chin, sides, and is connected to the sideburns. The moustache is generally integrated, but can be styled. While this is a good option for guys with weaker jawlines, it may not be appropriate for conservative environments or girlfriends who prefer a softer touch. Associated styles include the garibaldi, a wide, full beard with a rounded bottom, and the verdi, a shorter version with a prominent mustache.

HOLIDAY BOOK DRIVE The best gift you can give this holiday season is the gift of literacy. Across the world and even in our own community, thousands of young children, teens, and adults are left without books to challenge their minds, to cuddle up and read to their young ones, or to simply enjoy while sipping a nice cup of warm tea or coffee this winter. The Rob Golfi Team and Absolute Simplicity - Home Staging/Interior Decorating, value literacy and the importance it has on learning. Together as a team, they are hosting a Book Drive and ask for your help in spreading the joy of reading. Books will be donated to the Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Program. CATCH is a community development program which offers playgroups, a lunch program, after school programs and a women’s group. Children and youth who use CATCH visit the book bank to browse and choose a free book, which they can take home and keep – a luxury for many children. Children can visit as often as they like. Books will also be distributed to the local Stoney Creek Book Bank. The book bank provides books for children from newborn to Grade 8 to support and develop an interest in, and success in reading, self-esteem and pride of ownership. The Rob Golfi Team and Luisa Giaitzis from Absolute Simplicity want to thank you in advance for your generous donations. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday.

here is no registration required just come out and share the joy of giving. Families with children enjoy the sorting of food on Thursday and students are especially needed on Saturday to assist with carrying the boxes and loading cars. A great way to earn those community hours needed for high school. The Annual GBF food and gift drive for the Christmas Hamper Program begins approximately the third week of November and runs to mid December and is spearheaded by the Grimsby Firefighters. Donation bags are distributed by the Grimsby Firefighters in the local paper. The firefighters collect non perishable donations of food and gifts along the Santa Claus parade route on the first Saturday in December. Donations to the Christmas Hamper program can be dropped off at our Elm Street location after that date. Community members may also donate through their churches, schools, local businesses and service organizations. Trinity United Church, 100 Main St. W, Grimsby Trinity United Church graciously donates the use of their facilities for the Christmas Hamper Program each year. Financial donations Financial donations to offset costs of the program are gratefully accepted. Charitable donation receipts are issued for financial donations received.

Donations can be made using the DONATE BUTTON on the GBF Home Page on our website (http://www.westniagara.com/gbf/) OR at our store at 40 Elm Street OR mailed to us at PO Box 231 Grimsby Ontario L3M 4G3. Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Debit are accepted. For additional information, please call 905 309 5664 ext. 3 Volunteer With Us Young and old alike gather together over a three-day period at Trinity United Church, 100 Main St. W. to help fill the Christmas Hampers with canned goods, gifts, fresh vegetables and gift certificates. These hampers are then distributed to Food Bank recipients as well as others in the community who are less fortunate. Once all hampers are delivered, remaining food and gift items are returned to the GBF Foodbank to help families requiring food assistance throughout the year. Christmas Hamper Registration GBF offers the Christmas Hamper Program to help less fortunate community members, including GBF Food Bank recipients celebrate the Christmas holiday season. Registration is required to receive a hamper. Registration forms are available at the foobank during our regular office hours 9:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Referrals from other organizations within the community are accepted. For more information, please call Pamela Rainford at 905 309 5664 ext 4.

Hamilton Hunger Count 2011 The greater single challenge in our communicty is the degree of poverty. One in four residents live far below the poverty line.

Little has changed Unfortunately, the statistical shapshot of food program use during the month of March 2011 showed that the picture of hunger in Hamilton remained sadly consistent.

Food Bank Access Comparison – 2010 - 2011 Adults 2011 2010 Adults 9,906 10,443 8,526 8,157 Children Total People 18,432 18,600 Total Households 7,963 8,507 Statistics reflect unique households and individuals

The impact of hunger continues to be a symptom of the deep levels of poverty experienced by our most vulnerable of citizens. Hunger is felt across every age group – affecting children in their development years to seniors. Hunger is felt across every family situation – from people on social assistance and disability to people working for minum wage, looking for work or people who have no income at all.

When polled, food banks all agree that national policy changes are needed to seriously alleviate hunger in our community Food banks indicated the top 4 policy changes needed to alleviate hunger in our national community… 1. 2. 3. 4.

Increase social assitance rates Raise minimum wage to living wage More affordable housing More job training opportunities

Why policy changes are needed

Hunger is on the rise… a four year comparison Since 2008, the extent of hunger has increased in Hamilton, evidenced by 36.9% more children lining up at a food bank.

Hunger among children is a critical issue. Children in food insecure households experience a lack of focus and concentation in school. Women and children who are the largest group living in poverty, are at extreme risk of experiencing adverse health effects due to prolonged states of hunger. Eight-one percent of parents who visit a food bank sacrifice their own food so their children can eat. Even with this sacrifice, one in five children who are food bank users are going without breakfast or a balanced meal.

The face of poverty has transformed into the unthinkable… children going to bed hungry, then off to school with no fuel to learn. Young adults living in shelters or on the street, pensioners who have worked their whole life now suffering the indignity of lining up to a food bank. Parents juggling the impossible, desperately trying to fill the food gap so their families can eat. Although not the only factor, income insecurity is the single most pressing reason for hunger. OW and ODSP rates need to increase to reflect the actual cost of living, as 75% of food bank users derive their income from this source. Having a job does not eliminate the need for a food bank as 9% are already working. Incrasing minimum wage to a liveable wage along with increasing affordable housing units and creating meaningful job opportunities are just a start to alleviating the complex conditions contributing to hunger
