With a passion for enjoying good food and wine, Tammy Kincaid has served as Marketing Director for Wines Du Jour show for over the past 12 years. Her love for travel and all things “spa” lead her to create her own website in early 2011 called Spa Expectations. He served on panels to promote workforce education and employment sustainability. He also devotes time to mentor students with employment and interviewing techniques. Q: What do you think about the XTrain that is coming to Las Vegas? How might this affect tourists and/or locals of Las Vegas?

Q: Spring has sprung, and Vegas is promoting all kinds of fun events! What are your thoughts on the “UNVLino 2014” event celebrating its 39th year of wine tasting? A: Las Vegas is a city full of great events. I remember when UNLVino was just getting started and it has continued to grow to really become one of the

A: I like to start my Mother’s Day with breakfast in bed, maybe some strawberries and a cup of coffee, something simple that Oscar can handle. I try not to work or spend time cooking or cleaning. In the afternoon I want the entire family to come over so we can spend time together. Later on, Oscar takes us all out to dinner, because you shouldn’t have to cook on Mother’s Day. Q: Many readers use Spring (and the changing of seasons) to clean up their

homes, fulﬁll New Year’s resolutions, and organize their lives. Do you practice any positive Spring traditions? A: Spring cleaning is absolutely a tradition in my home. I have to have a special system because my husband is a bit of a pack rat. He has stuff all over the place, even old notes he took on the inside of matchbooks. Inevitably he will ask me where something is if I move it, so I have a kind of weigh station out in the garage. I move stuff out there and then if he doesn’t ask about it after a little while, out it goes. f you do not know about the Beverly Rogers, Carol C. Harter Black Mountain Institute (B.M.I.) located on the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) campus, you soon will. Black Mountain Institute (B.M.I.) is becoming internationally recognized as a prestigious literary center and significant asset to Nevada’s educational and cultural cache. As with all great endeavors, this began as a passion and appreciation for highlighting astute authors, speakers, and their work. Beverly Rogers, a successful businesswoman and philanthropist in her own right, is a co-owner with spouse, Jim Rogers, of the NBC affiliate in southern Nevada, KSNV NEWS 3 and Vice Chairwoman of Intermountain West Communications. Her passion for B.M.I. began with her involvement as a volunteer, expanding the B.M.I. footprint onto a larger canvas and fundraising with the goal of giving a voice to asylum writers; ones who are not only silenced in their own countries, but could be sentenced to death. Beverly’s passion for linking higher education and the community is a collaborative effort with like-minded friend, Carol Harter, who is celebrated as the first woman president of UNLV, serving for eleven years. Carol began the Black Mountain Institute as an experiment of sorts to gauge the ability of Las Vegas to draw the interest of high quality literary activity to the community at large. Her appreciation is genuine when she says, “The community responded wonderfully well to our efforts, attending public programs, our book club, and financially supporting activity from resident Fellowships to panels to Ph.D. student support. Las Vegas has demonstrated its intellectual side.” Beverly worked to create a safe haven in Las Vegas for literary and exiled critics, similar to the one in Pittsburg,

Beverly and husband, Jim Rogers, made a major investment in B.M.I. with a ten million dollar gift. “Ten million life-changing dollars” says Beverly Rogers. “Jim and I are exceptionally proud of Carol and her accomplishments for Black Mountain Institute. She continues to create a ‘pocket of excellence’ within UNLV that opens a worldwide door for marginalized scholars and writers worldwide and links the university with the community”. The prestigious speakers and theorists B.M.I. brings to Las Vegas are those that stimulate and promote a healthy exchange among ones with diverse views and sound studies. As an example, on January 23, 2013 Professor of Divinity, Dr. Karen King (Harvard University) rocked the world in 2012 by revealing an ancient papyrus text in which Jesus refers to his “wife”. This escalated into a spirited debate with two other biblical scholars and professors. Bart Ehrman, author of the New York Times best sellers, Misquoting Jesus and Forged, in addition to his grappling book, Truth and Fiction in The Da Vinci Code, discredits much of Dr. King’s research. Adding to the stimulation of this discussion is Mark Jordan, the author that wrote How Christians Talk about Homosexuality. Riveting conversations like these serve to open a widespread dialogue among intellectuals, scholars, laypeople and the entire Christian community thus, debunking the infamous saying of “Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”. Black Mountain Institute has something for all. ecently, there has been quite a stir around the subject of milk. For years, we have been programmed to believe that “it does a body good” and we need milk for healthy bones and teeth etc. But it seems that this could possibly be far from the truth. No matter what anyone says, there is no way blood , pus, urine, growth hormone or sanitized fecal matter has ever done any bodies any good!

“The Human Body has no more need for cow’s milk than it does for dog’s milk, horse’s milk, or giraffe’s milk”, claims Michael Klaper, M.D. Relatedly, in an article printed in Organic Health and Beauty, Dr. John McDougall says milk can pose these potential health risks:

If you do decide to talk via email, create a new address. Don’t use your personal or work email. • Make sure you’ve met in person before giving out any personal background information, such as how much money you make or where you live. • If you want to meet in person but they have a laundry list of reasons why they can’t, there is likely something fishy going on. REDUCED CRAVINGS When discussing nutrition with my clients I explain that cravings are created when our bodies are lacking nutrients and instead of what we really need (minerals, vitamins, enzymes) we reach for “empty” calorie foods and beverages, like a diet soda or a bag of chips. Q: I work a twelve-hour shift and never find time to meditate or keep my sanity. How can I balance my work hours with stress? A: I would definitely use your bathroom breaks as breath relaxation escapes. Try to sneak into your car on your lunch breaks, even if it means to only have five minutes to close your eyes, visualize serenity and breathe. This will make a world of difference in your hectic daily life. Q: I have been suffering for years with chronic insomnia. I have tried western medicine and medical sleeping aids but nothing seems to work. Is there any alternative way to finally get some rest? A: From my own experience of sleepless nights, the only remedies that work for me are soothing tea, prayer, and endless meditations. lean slate, start over, make space…when it comes to renewal, I say don’t stop at the cupboards and garage. What about your health? Organization is organic when you cut out what doesn’t serve your healthy lifestyle. Take for example, lunch. When it comes to navigating what I should eat, there is nothing to question. I already have some form of sustenance bundled nearby. Whether it’s homemade trail mix (I use raisins, raw almonds and dark chocolate) or lunch in jar, it should be accessible, simple and, of course, delicious.

MARIE’S MASON JAR MEAL • ½ pint mason jar • Dressing: use something with zing, such as olive oil and lemon or soy and chili oil • Carborhydrate: cooked diced sweet potatoes, steamed brown rice, *quinoa • Lean protein: cooked chicken, canned tuna, beans, tofu • Greens: spinach, kale, lettuce, sprouts Drizzle dressing in the bottom of the jar. Fill halfway with the carb. Add your protein and top with the greens. I like to flip it over onto a plate. Meal on the run? Enjoy straight out of the jar! *quinoa: this grain-like seed is high in protein. Feel free to load up on more of this ingredient and opt out of the protein choice. MV

Tax Tips for Spring Filing

ax season is upon us again. As we prepare our returns, we want to be sure that we take best advantage of deductions we can legally claim and report our income as accurately as possible. The possibility of audit looms over us and is an experience we would like to avoid. The IRS indicates fewer than one percent of 2013 returns will be audited, but certain information will increase the chances. For instance, returns declaring more than $200,000 are about four times as likely to be audited and returns declaring more than $1 million are over ten times as likely to be audited than the average. Here are some areas that may be likely to increase attention paid by the IRS by its auditors, and through technological means: 1. IRS technology is very adept at connecting taxpayer identification numbers (TINs) on forms W2 and 1099 and matching them up with TINs shown on returns. They will inevitably connect with you about any such information you did not report. You may receive a letter indicating the omission, or be subject to a personal audit. Either way, penalties for late reporting are possible. 2. Be careful as you declare charitable contributions. Keep receipts and avoid â&#x20AC;&#x153;creative writing.â&#x20AC;? Remember that you are not allowed to deduct for time you volunteer supporting

charitable causes, but you can deduct for miles driven on their behalf. 3. Big deductions for meals, travel, and entertainment will alert the IRS. These expenses must be supported with receipts and records of the business purpose of the deduction along with the names of people you entertained. 4. Claiming one hundred percent business use of an automobile will attract IRS attention. If you have a vehicle used solely in your business, be sure you have mileage and travel logs that substantiate your assertion of the vehicleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s business use.

5. Alimony is deductible for the payer and taxable for the receiver. To qualify as alimony, it must be required by a formal legal document, such as a decree of divorce or other related documents that specifically stipulate alimony payments. 6. If you have one, do not neglect to report a foreign bank account. The penalties for failure to declare foreign bank accounts can be harsh. Maximum penalties could be as much as a $25,000 fine and five years imprisonment for each account not declared. With any of these items, higher than average deductions are likely to raise audit alerts. Some tax preparation software provides summary comparison of individual deductions with averages for the income declared on the return. In each and every case, if you have documentation for legitimate deductions, they should be declared. If you do not have documentation you should be very careful. Finally, if you have questions or concerns, engage with a tax professional. They will guide and advise with specific reference to your situation. It is in their interest (as well as yours) that they keep you straight and compliant and minimize the chance that they will need to accompany you through any audit process. MV

YVEGAS Magazine publisher, Mark Shaffer, sat down with the legendary Marie Osmond for this exclusive interview on her life, her loves, and her career “through the years”…

MS: When I think of going “through the years” with you, Marie Osmond…in the 1960’s and 1970’s, you and your brother (Donny Osmond) were my idols! What were some highlights of your teenage years and overall career? MO: When I (heard that) question, I laughed. You know you’re a busy person when you have to Google yourself! I feel so blessed- being a woman who has worked consistently for years in my business is very rare. Highlights would definitely be my children and my second marriage to my husband. As I move back over those decades, the things that stick out are the times that I worked to help other people, and when I challenged myself to go above and beyond things that I thought were impossible. To be one of the founders of a Children’s Hospital Network, raising money to help children in need... those are the things that stand out for me. In my teens I was in California, I was twelve years old when I recorded “Paper Roses”. Thirteen has always been a lucky number for me…my song became number one when I was that age. At fourteen, we started the “Donny and Marie” show. By age twenty, I’d recorded five or six albums. From the minute I hit my teens I was off and running. My teens were filled with recording, touring…crazy fun, but very busy. I started working in the business when I was three years old. The teen years were a lot of work for me; it was not typical for a teenager. I worked with some of the greatest people in the entertainment business, I was so lucky! I learned about the ethics of hard work, and I studied along with some of the greats like Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, Sammy Davis Jr.- amazing people.

MS: Who are your inspirations (as far as music goes)? MO: I started singing country music because of Loretta Lynn. I loved the fact that she was a woman who could have children and still have a career, which was not the case for celebrities in the 1970’s for women. It’s very different now. It was a man’s world. She was my inspiration. MS: What about during your twenties? What are some of the highlights that come to mind? MO: In 1983 I cofounded the Children’s Miracle Network with John Schneider and it’s now the largest children’s charity of it’s kind in North America. The money goes to the kids- 100% of it to local hospitals. In 1983, my son Stephen was born... MS: Did your variety show continue in your twenties? MO: I started recording country again and had country hits, “Meet Me in Montana”, “Read my Lips”, and I did a lot of touring. MS: What things stood out for you in your thirties? Favorite highlights? MO: In 1991 I started designing and sculpting. I became one of the top doll designers in the world… isn’t that crazy? I wrote a book on postpartum depression. I was the third celebrity to write about it. A lot of people came out about it afterwards. I think sometimes the most difficult things that happen to you are the greatest things because it’s a lesson we have to go through, ya know? MS: I believe that, too. They say it’s always darkest before the dawn… MO: Yes. Also, in my thirties, one of my greatest professional highlights was that I debuted on Broadway in The King and I. I learned a completely different way of singing- I learned to sing legitimate Soprano and also I loved entertaining the troops. I was able to

hone my writing skills, my doll making skills…it was a fun time for me in my thirties! I feel like I learned a lot. If there’s a mole marking on the left eye of one of my dolls, it means that I sculpted that doll myself. Also, I went over with Bob Hope and entertained in the Gulf war…literally weeks before it started. MS: That’s got to be heartwarming as well! MO: Everyone should see what they go through. My dad was an army sergeant and he said that you never do a show where you don’t take a moment to honor the great men and women who fought for this country- that’s why we have the great country we live in. We always have to give gratitude. That’s how we get to pursue our dreams… MS: So, what about in your forties? What stands out for you during that time? MO: Hmmm…the Donny and Marie talk show. Also, that’s when my book came out “Behind a Smile”- that’s when I became a New York Times best selling author. In my forties I also became a speaker. I was on a speaking tour. I love helping women, and the Unique Lives speaking series was something that I enjoyed. I did a radio show, and that was so fun! Every Thursday, I did a soap on the radio live with a voice character. The reason I did that radio show at that time was that my mother was very sick. I chose to do the radio show before she passed away (instead of being on the road and touring). My mom passed away in my forties, and that was a great loss. Also in my forties was when I did Dancing with the Stars, which lead to Nutrisystem®. I’ve been doing Nutrisystem® for 7 years. I really enjoyed doing that, and I get thousands of letters back from women who were inspired by my involvement with

Becoming a grandma has been a great inspiration. I feel way young, and very cool to be a young grandma. My grandson, Stephen James Craig (he’s a Jr.) is in California. I didn’t realize how fun it was to be a grandmother! MS: How many years have you been on the Las Vegas Strip? MO: I think we just completed our sixth year, and heading into our seventh. You know, I love Vegas. To me Vegas sets a very high standard. We were voted best show in Vegas, and to have those kinds of accolades is an honor. There’s a fantastic energy here in Vegas, Donny and I change the show up every year…we don’t keep it the same. When you do a show everyday, five days a week, it’s like being an athlete. You have to stay in shape and you have to stay on top of your game. Vegas is a destination spot, so it’s more fun than going on tour. Celene (Dion) and I are the only two that live in Vegas and perform here (on the Strip). MS: How do you enjoy living in Vegas? MO: I’m a working mom with a very large family, so I don’t understand the word “day off”! If I’m not on stage performing, I’ve been hosting The Talk. I fly all over the place. I don’t really have a day off. It’s wonderful to live here, but my children need to be in Vegas…it’s better to keep the kids here to have normalcy in their home life, and school.

MS: What are some of your passions? MO: Wise Food Storage. I have been asked to endorse a ton of things, but you’ll notice I only endorse things that I believe change peoples lives. It’s better than investing in gold! I was raised on “emergency food” and taught preparedness by my mother. The Boom is Back

as Vegas has awaited the return of a vibrant real estate market, one following the time-tested, proven concepts of supply and demand. Those in this business for decades have experienced numerous cycles; either supply is dramatically decreased, interest rates exceed a borrower’s ability to pay, or an abundance of supply can’t get absorbed due to job loss or a change in employment status, reducing a borrower’s income. Until the most recent cycle, emphasis has always been on jump-starting the economy. In spite of constant changes in the rules for qualifying borrowers, residential real estate has made an impressive rebound. Enough time has passed, and with optimism from the predictability of this economic increase, many buyers are seeking thought out and creative ways to make a purchase. Lenders, especially since the start of the year, face tightened guidelines until we see revisions of the Qualified Residential Mortgage (QRM), or the Dodd-Frank legislation. This is having a severe impact on the appraisal and lending processes, driving prices down in both residential and commercial real estate. The commercial real estate sector lags behind the residential- a result of the Dodd-Frank legislation and a markto-market rule, which requires lenders to perform an annual appraisal on each loan in their portfolio. If there is a threat of a decrease of value of underlying collateral securing a loan, the borrower either commits to make up the difference on an annual basis, or the lender is forced to reserve for that decrease, thereby taking funds out of circulation. In the eyes of a lender, this is unacceptable.

You either over-collateralize a loan, you tie this loan to other resources owned by the borrower the bank has control over, or you just do not make the loan. It is unlikely these rules will loosen until Dodd-Frank is fully implemented, sometime in 2015. Needless to say, this will further impact the recovery of the commercial real estate sector until there is a review of these policies, now that sufficient time has passed to evaluate their negative impact. The mark-tomarket rule not only applies to new financing, but also when an existing loan has matured and there is need for a renewal of that loan. Fewer landlords are coping with this new set of lending guidelines and, as a result, forced to sell their properties at a discount. Real estate plays a dominant role when it comes to hedging against inﬂation, controlling your occupancy expense (if you own a business), and developing an exit strategy for that day in the future when you decide to either sell or transfer ownership to your heirs. We believe the economy’s resiliency is a good reason to be optimistic about where we are and where we are heading. Yes, it is a good time to buy a home. There have been year-over-year increases in home prices- between 25 and 30 percentand predictions indicate residential real estate will see continued increases for 2014. In commercial real estate,

more individuals are willing to enter into leases and landlords are more willing to make tenant improvements, thereby investing in someone’s business and, ultimately, their success. We are seeing apartments built in greater numbers and homebuilders preparing for an increase in building by obtaining entitlements, developing lots, and assembling contractors. Buy a Home with a Reverse Mortgage Purchase Make No Mortgage Payment Again

hen you purchase a home with the Reverse Mortgage Purchase, there is no income verification, no employment verification, and no credit score necessary. The title company will run a title check to ensure there are no liens, the lender will verify the source of the funds for the down payment, and the transaction is ready for closing. The Reverse Mortgage Purchase Program issued by the FHA is very simple. A realtor negotiates a sales contract between the buyer and the seller. The buyer becomes qualified for the Reverse Mortgage Purchase Program in which he or she will find out the amount of the Reverse Mortgage that they are qualified for. The difference between the purchase price and the reverse mortgage amount is the down payment. Sound familiar? It should, because it’s the same procedure you are using with a forward mortgage.

By using a Reverse Mortgage Purchase Program to purchase a property, you can bypass the need to ever have a mortgage payment. The result is being able to have more money to enjoy life with! The difference between the regular forward mortgages you are familiar with and the Reverse Mortgage Purchase Program is that the Reverse Mortgage Purchase Program is much easier to qualify for. The main factors needed are (1) age 62 years of age or older for all borrowers and (2) the source of funds for the down payment. That’s it!! Many new home buyers have just sold another home and are using the cash for their new purchase. They have a huge amount of cash which they are willing to put down on a home so they won’t have to have a mortgage payment. However, by doing this, they clean out their bank account and use their entire

sale proceeds for their new purchase. With a Reverse Mortgage Purchase, a buyer only needs some of that cash as their down payment on the new home. Now they’ll have no mortgage payments, and still get to keep a large portion of their cash in their own bank account. The best of both worlds! As the homeowner, you do not have to make any mortgage payment to the bank as long as this property is your primary residence. You retain ownership of your home, you have the security of knowing if your spouse passes, you can remain in the home for as long as you desireno one will be knocking at the door the following month for a mortgage payment. pring is in the air, and with it comes spring-cleaning. Here are some tips to revitalize and rejuvenate for the sunny days ahead:

A PLAN OF ATTACK For some, just the idea of a total home cleaning is an undertaking. Like most things in life, a list can help break down daunting projects into manageable tasks. Write down all the rooms in your house, with particular projects for each room- from the ceilings to the ﬂoors. Walk through the house (into each room if necessary) to visualize each task to complete. It can turn an overwhelming idea into a tangible goal.

LET GO One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Reach far into those closets, attics, garages, cabinets, and storage areas. Try to avoid the natural inclination to hoard- you probably aren’t going to use all those plastic grocery bags under the sink, or that stack of coupons for discounts on cat litter. Donate clothing that has sat unworn in the closet for years. Toss the broken patio lounger you’ve been meaning to weld together since last winter. It can be initially difficult on the psyche, but in the end, the simple act of clearing clutter lifts the metaphorical weight off your shoulders.

DON’T DO IT ALONE The hardest things in life can often be made easier just by asking for a little assistance. Sure, sometimes the kids don’t want to put down Flappy Bird, or perhaps the spouse has a tee time, but with manageable goals and incentive-based duties, even the most obstinate young child can help get the home in shape for the springtime. Be sure to keep kids on task so you don’t find the dirty clothes stuffed under the bed a week from now. If nobody’s home, a bottle of wine or twelve-pack of oat soda can be an inexpensive incentive for a good friend to give you a hand. You may need to help them move their oak armoire next week, but it’ll be worth it.

STICK WITH IT Everyone’s been there- cleaning the attic or garage of clutter and you come across some old artwork from your kids’ preschool days, or those rippedup journals you kept when you were pregnant. Nothing’s easier to avoid as you clean, than cleaning. Keep yourself motivated and task-oriented. Set time limits or deadlines for certain projects so you don’t get lost in the sea of nostalgia certain to hit once you open up your box of high school mementos.

MAINTAIN, MAINTAIN, MAINTAIN Feel accomplished. You’ve taken days off from work when you could have been doing almost anything else, and refreshed and reclaimed your home from winter hibernation. But it doesn’t end there. The key to succeeding at almost anything is maintenance. Even fifteen minutes a day on different tasks for yourself, your spouse, or your children can keep that fresh energy continuing into next year’s spring cleaning.

CLEAN THE HOME, CLEANSE THE SOUL Okay, the patio is power-washed, the light fixtures, blinds, and baseboards are dusted, closets cleared, and the garage is uncluttered and organized. Now it’s time to park on the couch and catch up on “House of Cards”, right? Sure. Or, take ten more minutes and cleanse your home’s energy and soul by burning some white sage. It may seem “out there”, but civilizations have practiced some form of energy cleansing for centuries. t’s no secret that this is a busy, multi-tasking, technology driven world. Modern amenities can bring great advantages. But sometimes those advantages come with consequences. Why do we text when we could pick up the phone and hear a voice? Why do we email when we could meet for coffee? Why do we “LOL” when we could really laugh out loud? Simple: because it’s easier. It’s easy to get busy. It’s easy to get distracted. It’s easy to convince ourselves that we don’t have time to connect on a personal level. Maybe we’ll do it later? But what effect does “later” have on a relationship; all relationships? Relationships can be hard, and we like easy. Yes, relationships can be emotional and even taxing. But they are the most fulfilling aspects of our lives. And like a

garden, when well tended, they blossom. The truth is, relationships don’t just happen, they require intentionality, commitment and communication. But don’t be overwhelmed, because they do not need to take an abundance of time. What if you could strengthen a relationship in a minute a day? There are many ways to connect with someone- a spouse, a child, a friend. It’s not always about what you do, it’s that you do it. Maybe you don’t know where to begin? I didn’t. But alas, that is another benefit of modern technology. There are many ideas out there. One of my favorites is a blog called www.meaninginaminute. com. According to its founder, Krista, all you need is one minute a day to create a deeper relationship with your spouse, children, parents and friends. The thing I like about her blog is that she takes the guesswork out of it. You get an email

every day for 7-14 days (depending on the challenge) with an idea on how to create a memory with a loved one in just a minute or so. Krista says, “We are going to push back against the sometimes disconnected culture in which we live, and create meaningful interactions each day. We must make the relationships we foster within our families a priority- it’s the legacy we live with and the most important thing we leave behind.” So I took one of Krista’s challenges. Three weeks ago her email instructed me to have a sixty-second funny face contest with my family. I don’t remember what I cooked for dinner that day, or who I sent emails to, what was on TV, or even who I talked to on the phone, but I still remember that funny face contest…and so do my kids. MV

Taking the Guesswork out of Mother’s Day

ost of us have grown up with a Mother’s Day in our memory. Mother’s Day actually has a very long and winding history, definitely worth a read if you have time. From Greek goddesses, to religion, to a woman’s gratitude to her own mother, Mother’s Day has been acknowledged across the globe for centuries. But in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared it a national holiday and made it a real obligation here in the United States.

So now, exactly 100 years later, how far have we come? What is Mother’s Day today? When I started this article I couldn’t really say the phrase without rolling my eyes. To me, it seemed like the holiday had become just another catchphrase to sell more crap. I was in the middle of a similar tirade with my husband

regarding Valentine’s Day when, to my surprise, he stepped up to defend the traditions. He simply said: “It’s not about the gifts or the advertising…it’s just about remembering. We can appreciate someone every day, but we usually forget to say it. This day reminds us to do that.” Leave it to my soft-spoken (yet very manly) husband to put things into perspective. Through all the commercials, ﬂyers, bling that is spread across the media, there is no denying that we need to remember mom. As a mom now, I can agree.

When I took this “mom job” 6 years ago, like most, I was not in it for the glory and certainly not for the money! But I admit that a little hug, a thank you and some over all appreciation can go a long way. To me, Mother’s Day is that on a larger scale. It’s the day we get to ask for something selfish without feeling guilty. Flowers are nice, but most moms I talk to prefer something more personal. pring has sprung, and that means time to organize and clean out the clutter! It’s also a great time to get the fur babies out and about and moving OUTSIDE again. Although I love the idea of dog parks, I must be honest- they make me nervous. Both times Charlotte has gotten sick were within days of a trip to the dog park, and it has made me a little wary. Dog parks are landmines for highly contagious illnesses including Kennel Cough, Giardia, Canine Influenza, and Parvovirus. If you do not want to take the risk, my husband and I have discovered some great dog friendly places in town! Our favorite is Tivoli Village in Summerlin. Most of the restaurants inside Tivoli Village have outdoor patios that allow dogs, so we can dine out without leaving the babies at home. Town Square and The District also welcome dogs. Most Home Depots and Lowes Home Improvement stores allow dogs, as well. In these types of stores, there are a lot of people, loud noises and stimulating distractions, which can provide great environments to socialize and train your pet. Toros Spanish Kitchen & Gaming Braised oxtail is a classic dish, but not one you will find on many tapas menus with such big ﬂavor. If you are a steakhouse kind of diner, this dish is for you. The tempranillo sauce created a wonderful richness. The use of peas and peppers brightened up this dish. The same holds true for the salmon with spinach and topped with a wave of béchamel. Attempting to get our veggies in, we had to try the grilled asparagus. They were perfectly charred with an outstanding romesco sauce. The nuttiness of the sauce was a perfect fit to our collective personalities (pun intended)! However, the crab stuffed piquillo peppers stole the show for us.

e didn’t know what to expect from Toros Spanish Kitchen. Was it a sports bar, gaming establishment, a full service restaurant or a tapas place? The answer turned out to be a little bit of all of the above. This restaurant has everything we have come to expect in the valley. In the center of the restaurant you will find your bit of Vegas, a sprawling rectangular bar with gaming. Spanish-inspired lighting hung overhead, creating a welcoming ambiance. There are a number of ﬂat screens suspended over the bar and around the room: on this particular night, we were treated to televised soccer. The servers even took a cue from this and donned Spanish soccer team jerseys as their uniforms! The menu is solid, and while there are the requisite wings and burgers on the menu, don’t let that fool you- this is far more than your normal neighborhood haunt. There were old school ﬂavors, a little modern-age presentation and plating, but the sauces will send you over the Spanish moon.

Another favorite were the scallops. Flawlessly prepared with a touch of our favorite romesco sauce, aioli and cinnamon. There were a number of Spanish-inspired dishes offered on the menu, such as paellas that are finished off in the oven to obtain that crispy crust on the outside. Don’t miss out on the innovative beverages that honor Toros’ Spanish heritage, as well. Toros has a great vibe. Vast windows look out onto a courtyard dining area, the walls have a lively deep orange hue and wood planks from liquor barrels anchor one wall. Overhead, Spanish-inﬂuenced lighting creates the perfect atmosphere that reﬂects off of the tin celling. With a mixture of high bistro seating and larger wooden tables with benches, it is an eclectically perfect ambiance. Save room for the desserts, as they are super decadent! The chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream was particularly mouthwatering, and the rice pudding was nothing short of amazing. It was finished with caramelized sugar and really reminded us of an amped-up crème brûlée.

The bread was slightly grilled and served with a piquillo pepper aioli. After the bread was long gone, a spoon did the trick finishing up all the aioli. That was our first clue that the attention to detail would make Toros stand out.

You’ll even find those clams put to good use in a delicious, homemade clam chowder. Why Stop Drinking Champagne and Sparkling Wine During the New Year?

e know that for Champagne to be authentic, it has to come from a certain region of France. What other types of sparkling wines are out there? Sparkling wine has many different names, depending on where it is grown. We have domestic bubbly from cooler climates in the U.S., Cava from Spain, Prosecco or Franciacorta from Italy, Crémant and Champagne from France, Sekt from Austria and Germany, bubbly in Australia in addition to many, many others. What should we look for when we’re buying bubbly? Most importantly, you should drink what you like. Then you can think about price, region, style, and brand. It all depends on your objective: are you entertaining a large group, or just the two of you? Maybe you should save a little money and serve Crémant. Are you buying a bottle as a gift for a boss? Perhaps a Grand Marques (Champagne from an established larger house) is more appropriate. The most important thing to recognize is that anything with bubbles should be under consideration throughout the entire yearnot just a holiday or special occasion. High Rolling in Las Vegas at The LINQ

aesars Entertainment is redefining the iconic Las Vegas skyline with The LINQ, an open-air retail, dining and entertainment district, anchored by the world’s tallest observation wheel, known as the High Roller. Located at the heart of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip, The LINQ will feature more than 30 unique retail, dining and entertainment venues and will host special events, festivals and more. The Las Vegas High Roller observation wheel will be the focal point of the unique urban entertainment district. The wheel’s 28 glass-enclosed cabins will feature an interactive experience including video and music that will fade away to unveil spectacular views of the famed resort city in the 30 minutes it takes to complete one full revolution. Each cabin will accommodate up to 40 people and will be available for individual or group experiences. Riders will enjoy a mesmerizing journey that begins with its pre-ride experience including interactive elements on the first floor, and a lounge on the second. Boarding will take place on the third floor while the building’s fifth floor is a hospitality floor with outdoor patios. Visitors can enjoy a full day’s worth of activities and venues at The LINQ before or after sky-high sightseeing. Here are some interesting facts about the High Roller:

• The High Roller tops out at 550 feet making it the largest observation wheel in the world.

• The High Roller will travel at one foot per second and take roughly 30 minutes to make one full revolution.

• In addition to its great height, the High Roller will offer an immersive pre-ride experience for its passengers on their journey from ticketing through the wheel house complete with a lounge, to the wheel ride which features unparalleled views of the Las Vegas Strip.

• The wheel will be lit with more than 2,000 LED lights to create a customizable and visually stunning display.

CONSTRUCTION MILESTONES: • February 29, 2012 Ground breaks on the construction of the High Roller.

• The wheel structure boasts 7.2 million pounds of steel and 112 cables. Each cable measures approximately 225 feet, for a combined total of 25,256 feet.

• October 22, 2012 Begin erection of the wheel structure.

• The High Roller features 28 spherical cabins that will each hold 40 guests. Each cabin weighs approximately 44,000 pounds and includes 300 square feet of glass. The cabin windows are doubly curved and fabricated from four sheets of laminated glass. The cabins will also feature dynamic video and music shows that will fade away seamlessly to show the most impressive views of the Las Vegas valley.

• July 5, 2013 The first section of the rim is installed.

• Fabrication of the wheel began in late 2011 and took place in several locations across the globe including China, Japan, France, Sweden, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Colorado, California and Las Vegas.

• December 3, 2013 The final passenger cabin is attached to the rim of the High Roller.

• March 15, 2013 The hub and spindle of the High Roller is complete.

• September 9, 2013 The 28th and final piece of rim of the High Roller is installed and completed. • October 26, 2013 Wheel structure is completed. • November 6, 2013 The first of 28 passenger cabins is attached to the rim of the High Roller.

eattle: the gift (city) that keeps on giving! Say what? Well, don’t most of us start our days with a quad skinny almond latte, courtesy of Seattle’s very own Starbucks? And then, we spend all day on our computers powered by Bill Gate’s little hobby, also known as Microsoft. And who can forget the recent THUMPING administered by the Seattle Seahawks in the Superbowl?

Well, it’s time to add another name to that illustrious list of world class Seattle creations: MPULS. MPULS? It might look like your spell check is broken, but not at all! I’m referring to the dynamic new Hot 100 dance group that has taken the Las Vegas club scene by storm; kind of making the ‘Hawks look like just another junior varsity team. MPULS, for you Scrabble playing purists, is also known as IMPULSE. Different sexy spelling, but the same sexy act.

If you haven’t been to Club Madrid inside Sunset Station on a Saturday night to experience Seattle transplants Brooke Allyson and Jim Shank’s unique combination of the latest dance hits presented in a nonstop show format, what are you waiting for? Look, it’s no secret that many Las Vegas entertainers come to town from all over the planet seeking fame and fortune. After all, Sin City is the entertainment capital of the world! And it features some mighty ﬁne buffets and hospitality as well. Brooke and Jim did just that- came to town seeking fame and fortune. So, let’s take a moment to get to know Brooke and Jim, shall we? The duo met in 1994 when they were both students at a community college in Auburn, Washington, having auditioned

for its Professional Entertainment Training program. Jim sang and also played bass in several grunge bands. Grunge bands: yet another gift to the world from Seattle. Brooke was a wide-eyed 18-year-old girl with talent and a dream. As these things tend to play out, they were married a few years later. And so started their partnership that thrives to this day. Their ﬁrst project was a Top 40 band entitled “The Goods”. And they were! They soon started playing the Washington casino circuit. With virtually every town or city named after a Native American tribe, well, you can imagine the opportunities for gigging- exactly what young performers need to cut their teeth. We’ve all heard about the Beatles playing 8 hours per night 7 nights a week for several years in the seedy clubs of Hamburg. And look how that worked out for them! As Brooke and Jim developed their craft, they were asked to produce specialty acts for some of the prominent casinos, and so, in 2007 Live Music Entertainment was born. Soon thereafter, “That 80’S Show” (fully costumed and complete with characters) became a mainstay at the largest casino in Washington. Other acts such as “Galaxy 54”, “Repro” and “Vanity” hit the stage, and were all tremendously successful. After conquering and dominating the Seattle market with their award-winning productions, there was only one place to go… Vegas, baby. And now, in less than two years, MPULS is on the scene in a big way. With recent performances at The Blue Martini, The Fremont St. Experience, Red Rock Station, Bally’s, The Paris and their residency at Club Madrid, it is easy to see why Vegas is embracing a group that audiences love watching, listening and dancing to. “It’s all about having fun. Daily life, job worries, stresspeople want to go out and have a good time with friends, dance, have a cocktail or two and just enjoy the moment away from all of the nonsense” says Brooke. Her words apply not only just to the audience, but the performers as well, which include Alex Karpenko (recently arrived from Russia) who dazzles on guitar, drummer Jake Magness laying down the beats, Bob Sluys keeping the groove percolating on the bass, and DeeJay Tanastadi spinnin’ and scratchin’. “One of the things that sets us apart and which our audience loves is that we morph our song list into a nonstop dance party! Kind of like a D.J. is spinning us. Most bands play a song, stop, chit chat, take a sip of their drinks, ﬁddle around with their knobs, retune their guitars and announce what song

they’re gonna play next. I think that we in the business refer to that as ‘killing the dance floor’”, Brooke laughs. “We’ve put a lot of work in over the years learning exactly how to format a killer set; from tempos, stylistic appeal, energy and what key the song is in, all to ensure not only a smooth and seamless flow, but to maximize everyone’s enjoyment! Going from Rihanna to Pink to PitBull to LMFAO to Robin Thicke to Bruno Mars to Lady Gaga- well, you get the picture!” Not only are Brooke and Jim doing what they love, as are the rest of MPULS, they love being in Las Vegas, too. “Jim and I decided recently that this is where we want to be,” continued Brooke, “we want to make Vegas our home, not only to perform in, but to raise our kids here as well. We love the climate and there are so many activities for everybody. Jim’s an avid fishermen, you’ll often find him in his boat out on Lake Mead at around 6 a.m. when the rest of us are sleeping! hat if I told you that there were an abundance of restaurants that offer a variety of healthy choices in Las Vegas, and that you can find one just about anywhere you travel in town? These days, people are slowing down just enough to consider smarter food choices. This can be difficult and overwhelming at times, especially with the array of food products and restaurants claiming to be natural, organic, free of GMO’s, etc. The constant contradictions in the media on good foods versus bad foods don’t help, either. I have been on a mission over the past several years to find restaurants that offer healthy choices and truly stand by their claims. In upcoming issues of MYVEGAS Magazine, I would like to highlight several healthy restaurants that I have had the pleasure of dining in, with the hope that my experiences will inspire you to do the same. as Vegas is known for its bright lights, casinos and....country music? Not exactly. But with so many country music headliners in town, and with the recent renewal of the National Finals Rodeo contract for Las Vegas, it only makes sense to have a country awards show in town, right? There is an awards show that passes through our little Sin City every year! It honors the biggest singers, songwriters, and awesomeness of the country music industry. It’s called “The Academy of Country Music Awards”, and it brings hundreds of country artists and fans to our fine state each spring. This year, the 49th Academy of Country Music Awards (or ACM awards) will return to the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday, April 6, 2014. You can catch it on television at 8:00 p.m. live EST/delayed PST on the CBS television network. Four-time ACM award winner, Blake Shelton, and reigning ACM entertainer of the year, Luke Bryan, will

return to co-host the event. This year’s show will be Shelton’s fourth consecutive turn and Bryan’s second time hosting the awards telecast. If you’re a country music fan, MGM Grand is the place to be during the week of the ACM awards. In fact, it’s not unusual to see fans hanging out at the casino in hopes of catching a glimpse of their favorite country artists. But wait- there’s more! Not only do we get the annual ACM awards show but there are also a slew of concerts that come along with it. One of the bigger ones is the Academy of Country Fan Jam, a concert that happens at another venue that the ACM broadcast cuts to during it’s telecast. adies, the best piece of romantic advice I can offer is to make sure your guy is boyfriend material before you commit to him. You’ll save yourself plenty of tears if you hold out for a man who meets the following criteria:

1. IS HE GIVING? True love is undoubtedly about giving, not receiving. However, a man in love would do anything to make his girl happy. When a man gives, he’s not only demonstrating his love, he’s also displaying he’ll be a good provider. A woman is always free to give her man as much love and affection as she wants, but if she gives too much materially, she risks not only emasculating him, but also takes on the male role in the relationship. Although the dynamic can be reversed, most women want to be the feminine,

receiving partner. A feminine woman knows how to make her boyfriend feel appreciated and always is sure to let him know she’s grateful.

2. DO YOU FEEL SAFE WHEN YOU ARE AROUND HIM? No matter how independent a woman may be, she wants to feel protected by her man. Years ago, I had an ex who was stalking me. While I was at dinner with someone else, my ex kept blowing up my phone. My date cowardly asked if my ex-boyfriend ever resorted to violence. Needless to say, the fact my date cared more about his own safety than protecting me was a major turn off. The men I loved most always made me feel like they had my back. Not that any of these men ever resorted to fist fights, but they certainly weren’t afraid to defend my honor.

3. DOES HE CHERISH YOUR FEELINGS? A good man should cherish his woman’s feelings. If you tell your guy he hurt you, a good boyfriend will take that to heart and not repeat whatever it was that caused you pain. If your man doesn’t consider your feelings, you’re not being cherished. This guy will need to be trained if you plan on keeping him around.

4. IS HE A MAN OF HIS WORD? One of my pet peeves is a guy who promises the world, but doesn’t follow through. It is very important that if a man says he’s going to do something, he does what he promised. Even small things like calling when he says he’ll call are a testament to a man’s character. You want a boyfriend you know you can count on!

5. DOES HE MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER?

A hairstylist once told me to never commit to a man unless he makes my life better. This may seem like a nobrainer, but in my early twenties, I had a boyfriend who made my life worse. He created a lot of unnecessary drama and rarely had my best interests at heart. Always remember: your relationship should enhance your life, not create any unnecessary turmoil. If you feel like your man is genuinely a blessing on your life, he’s a keeper.

6. IS HE HAPPY WHEN GOOD THINGS HAPPEN FOR YOU? Sometimes in relationships, one person will become jealous when something good happens to his or her partner. A man may feel these negative emotions because he is afraid that if his girlfriend has newfound success, he might lose her. n a relationship, both partners should grow, so beware of a man who holds you back. A man who is boyfriend material wants to see you blossom.

7. DO YOU LOVE WHO YOU ARE WHEN YOU ARE AROUND HIM? Does your guy make you feel happy, free and beautiful? Or does he cause you to feel insecure, anxious or maybe even jealous? You want a boyfriend who makes you feel completely loved and secure, a man in whose presence you become more radiant and energized, a man who ultimately makes you feel like a Love Goddess.

8. DOES HE INSPIRE YOU? We are put on this Earth to grow into our best selves, and our partners are meant to help in this process. I’m a bit nerdy, so I like a guy who can teach me something about politics, spirituality or great literature. However, a man can inspire you in other ways; for instance, he may make you want to be better in business, live a healthier lifestyle, volunteer for charity or simply to be a

would like to note a dining experience I recently had at Streets of New York Pizza, a family owned pizzeria. Set back in a nice strip mall off Fort Apache Road between Tropicana and Russell, this is an unexpected restaurant I will definitely enjoy again! We were greeted and seated by the owner of the restaurant in a comfortable booth that offered a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Our server, Shelby, was very attentive to our needs and shared all the specials along with her personal favorites. Their prices are very affordable for a family affair. I decided to partake in their “Flagship Pizza”, The New York Combo on a gluten free crust and the famous Chopped Antipasto Salad. The pizza was perfectly prepared with Italian sausage, pepperoni, meatballs, mixed bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, black olives and mozzarella cheese. The crust was baked perfectly, soft with a crisp bottom- not too easy a task for a gluten free crust. The Chopped Antipasto is something I have been hearing about around town and wanted to make sure to check out what was creating the buzz. aving been married only a year and a half, I’ve recently come to the conclusion that marriage isn’t for me.

Now before you start making assumptions, keep reading. I met my wife in high school when we were 15 years old. We were friends for ten years until…until we decided no longer wanted to be just friends. :) I strongly recommend that best friends fall in love. Good times will be had by all. Nevertheless, falling in love with my best friend did not prevent me from having certain fears and anxieties about getting married. The nearer Kim and I approached the decision to marry, the more I was filled with a paralyzing fear. Was I ready? Was I making the right choice? Was Kim the right person to marry? Would she make me happy?

Not just for the in-laws and all of that nonsense, but for your future children. Who do you want to help you raise them? Who do you want to inﬂuence them? Marriage isn’t for you. It’s not about you. Marriage is about the person you married.” It was in that very moment that I knew that Kim was the right person to marry. I realized that I wanted to make her happy; to see her smile every day, to make her laugh every day. I wanted to be a part of her family, and my family wanted her to be a part of ours. And thinking back on all the times I had seen her play with my nieces, I knew that she was the one with whom I wanted to build our own family.

Then, one fateful night, I shared these thoughts and concerns with my dad.

My father’s advice was both shocking and revelatory. It went against the grain of today’s “Walmart philosophy”, which is if it doesn’t make you happy, you can take it back and get a new one.

Perhaps each of us have moments in our lives when it feels like time slows down or the air becomes still and everything around us seems to draw in, marking that moment as one we will never forget.

No, a true marriage (and true love) is never about you. It’s about the person you love—their wants, their needs, their hopes, and their dreams. Selfishness demands, “What’s in it for me?”, while Love asks, “What can I give?”

My dad giving his response to my concerns was such a moment for me. With a knowing smile he said, “Seth, you’re being totally selfish. So I’m going to make this really simple: marriage isn’t for you. You don’t marry to make yourself

Some time ago, my wife showed me what it means to love selﬂessly. For many months, my heart had been hardening with a mixture of fear and resentment. Then, after the pressure had built up to where neither of us could

stand it, emotions erupted. I was callous. I was selfish. But instead of matching my selfishness, Kim did something beyond wonderful—she showed an outpouring of love. Laying aside all of the pain and aguish I had caused her, she lovingly took me in her arms and soothed my soul. I realized that I had forgotten my dad’s advice. While Kim’s side of the marriage had been to love me, my side of the marriage had become all about me. This awful realization brought me to tears, and I promised my wife that I would try to be better. To all who are reading this article— married, almost married, single, or even the sworn bachelor or bachelorette—I want you to know that marriage isn’t for you. No true relationship of love is for you. Love is about the person you love. And, paradoxically, the more you truly love that person, the more love you receive. And not just from your significant other, but from their friends and their family and thousands of others you never would have met had your love remained self-centered. lthough most people never plan on cheating, relationships can be fraught with unforeseen temptations that can lead a mate astray. Signs of relationship infidelity come in many formssome obvious, others are more subtle. Even before physical cheating comes emotional cheating- the sharing and divulging intimate details of our lives with someone other than our spouse. Such emotional cheating often serves as the gateway to physical inﬁdelity; once you begin to share how you feel, your dreams and inspirations with another person, it is only a matter of time before that ends in the bed. You are creating a bond with that person on an emotional level, and that emotional tie all too often escalates into an inappropriate physical connection.

Here are 10 classic warning signs that your partner may, in fact, be cheating emotionally, physically or both:

Sudden changes in schedule or chronically cancelling plans. For example, you and your mate routinely

have dinner every Thursday night at your favorite restaurant, but lately your partner has been cancelling and coming up with a number of different excuses.

Starts ﬁghts and makes accusatory statements more often.

You notice your mate is more on edge and starts ﬁghts more often. This also might include suddenly accusing you of cheating. This could be a guilty conscience at play. A quick anger trigger, getting easily exasperated, and “picking ﬁghts” more frequently are other classic clues something is amiss, as these actions create distance for the freedom to come and go as they please. It also provides a backdrop for an actual breakup to gain permanent freedom from the relationship.

Being emotionally withdrawn. It’s never a good sign when it takes effort to make even basic conversation with your mate, and also when your partner no longer asks for more in-depth details about things going on in your life- career, family, friends, hobbies and otherwise. This broad-sweeping disinterest can speak volumes.

Constant texting or using other virtual modalities. You notice your mate is constantly on, or checking, the phone or computer, at all hours of the day and night. You may also have discovered your mate has joined new social networks without telling you.

Being secretive with the phone. Every time the phone rings your companion goes to another room to take the call. Or you notice the immediate deleting of emails and text messages and keeping the phone face down at all times.

Changing passcodes. Your mate frequently changes telephone, email and social networking site login information.

Constantly working late. Your mate is constantly coming home late and blames it on their work schedule- even when it is not the busy season. The same would hold true for a higher volume of business trips or other workrelated responsibilities.

Changes in sexual patterns and/or alertness. You and your mate used to have sex 3 to 4 times per week but lately, your partner seems disinterested and now you have sex only once a week or less. Or, your mate asks you to try new positions or “toys” (even knowing you may not be comfortable with it), meanwhile they appear to be a pro at what is supposed to be a new experience.

Celebrating Life St. Jude Las Vegas Chapter Unveils 2014 Sculpture Collection

n March the St. Jude Las Vegas Local Chapter unveiled its new 2014 Sculpture Collection titled Celebration of Life at The Smith Center. It marked the first new sculpture design to be unveiled since the inaugural Traveling Hearts of Las Vegas exhibit featuring a collection of 10 artistic human-heart sculptures was revealed in 2010. Local sculptor Dorit Schwartz created the pieces that were then painted by fellow world-renown and locallyacclaimed artists, some of whom have a personal journey and connection with the work of St. Jude to help children who are fighting life-threatening childhood diseases, such as cancer. No Down Payment and Stated Income Loans are Back! Several loan programs today are making it less expensive to buy a home than paying the move-in costs for a rental. Rentals require first month’s rent, sometimes last month’s rent, pet and cleaning deposit, along with the standard security deposit. In some cases rent can also be more expensive monthly compared to a mortgage for an equivalent sized home.

For several years, FHA has required a 3.5% down payment to purchase a home. Today, there are new FHA programs that

only require a 0.5% down payment or less to purchase a home. For example, a buyer can purchase a home for a

price of $200,000 and have only a $1,000 down payment. Also, stated income loans are now available which provide alternatives for self-employed buyers looking to purchase a property, however, these types of loans require a higher down payment.

Location, Location, Location! This is known to be the number one rule in real estate. It is repeated three times to emphasize its importance and has been said to be the mantra of real estate professionals. Despite the repetition, this fundamental rule frequently gets overlooked by many buyers. It is important to remember the golden rule because location is permanent. You can change the cosmetics or even the full structure of a home, but you can’t change the location. From an investment standpoint, buying the best house on a bad block is not the way to go. The value will not increase as rapidly as it does in other areas, nor will the interest of potential buyers. When the time comes, selling the home might prove to be a challenge.

Keeping an Eye on Inventory. At the start of 2013, new laws affected the housing market which caused a lack of inventory. The shortage of homes available for sale created an increase in prices with bidding wars across the valley. The state of the market was a cause of concern for most. Soaring increase in price can potentially be problematic because it is typically not stainable. During the second half of 2013 more houses started coming on the market, which helped to balance the level of supply and demand. Now inventory levels have been slowly increasing. There are roughly 7,900 single family homes on the market, which is more than double the inventory than at the beginning of 2013, where only

3,400 homes were available. This has now increased the average time a listing is on the market to 60 days. However, homes remain affordable as the medium price for a single family home is $185,000.

Sellers Cashing In. The increase of prices in 2013 has now allowed many homeowners to have equity in their homes, therefore, sellers are cashing in by selling investment properties or upgrading to a larger home to live in.

Today, 76% of the homes on the resale market are “traditional” sales which gives buyers more options and ﬂexibility rather than only dealing with a bank. n keeping with the theme of iconic female performers to grace Las Vegas stages over the years, Lena Horne was one of the many headliners that performed at the Sands Hotel on the Strip. She recorded a live album, Lena at the Sands, there in late 1960. Some other names in the entertainment industry that performed on the Copa Room Stage (the showroom at the Sands) included Judy Garland, Shirley MacLaine, Marlene Dietrich, Milton Berle, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong,

Johnny Mathis and, Rat Packers, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Celebrities such as Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Kirk Douglas, Ethel Merman, Elizabeth Taylor and more were photographed enjoying the headliners at the Sands. The Sands Hotel opened on Dec. 15th, 1952 and was the seventh casino built on the strip. The Venetian now stands in the location where the Sands once was.. MV
