Borderless Library Arch 100A Instructor: Dominique Price UC Berkeley
In the 21st century world, books are changing, so are people. Library aren’t use as a way that they were used before. Library has changed to a contemporary gathering space, while still carries some recessing function such as reading and studying space. My concept is to create a open, borderless, efficient, demogratic and adaptive architecture that user may manipulate the usage of the architecture. Base on a grid unit, steps are translate into bookshelfs and sitting space. Walls are turned into bookcase and light source. As well as turns in to a indicating device to show the reading trends from the interior and exterior. Through users ability to manipulate the space usage it transforms the library environment. Through this approach Library is no longer a dead object, it is an architecture with its metabolism and evolving genre. This approach fits the evolving and changing world.

Urban Good food center located on Mission st in adjacent to alley way of Grace St and Washburn st. This is a area where a lot of new tech company located . Company such as twitter, dropbox and yelp etc has there headquarter at. With numbers of redevelopment happening in the area. A food based development will add in richness into these new tech industries.
Structure Platform Supporting column
In these project the main idea is to create a elevated mass where volumes could be devided in two part the top and bottom are where the big programs goes such as Food hall at the ground level and the auditorium at the higher level. The in between space are used as space for smaller programs . What these in between space introduce does is that it introduce a opportunity where sustainable strategie could be applied. In these case wind turbines are integrated in the ceilings of the exterior space between the two volumes.

University Village Housing Project Arch 100C Instructor: Jean Paul Bourdier UC Berkeley The site is located in Albany in front of the UC Berkeley Univesity village. Due to the increasing housing demand in the area of Berkeley, affordable housing was needed in the area. This is when low height high density project came in place. This project examines the lot ratio of 1:1, 1:3, 1:4 and 1:7. Through the exercise of adapting different lot ratio, plans are generated under extreme condition. Two courtyard is integrated into each of the houses to let light in as well as enchancing the interior and exterior relationship within a enclosed house .

Social
All the support such as storage of programs are push to the boundary to ingrams.
Programs and its support are place in a way that circulation could happen between the two. Therefore space could be save from pathways dedicated for circulation.
Private
Courtyard Serves as a medium between the social and private zone. It opens opportunities for the two to open to each other
Perforated screen facade to create exterior quality into private zone. To let occupant experience outside spacewithout being disturb.
The roof on each unit are combined together to become a bigger roof garden where bigger activities could be conducted.

Two courtyard is integrated into each of the houses to let light in as well as enchancing the interior and exterior relationship within a enclosed house . In modern apartment housing , roof is often a misopportunity to increase its potential, therefore in this project i propose the roof of everyhouse in the cluster to be open up. So a new urban environment could be produce and to let public and residents to share the common rooftop space. I name this as Public function within a Private Function.

Volume is made within volume, to blur the ence the sense of positive and negative space.
Each volume has it own special program, to organize the entire space.

The Float Slow Fast Food Restaurant Arch 100D Instructor: Keith Plymale UC Berkeley Site: International Boulevard, Oakland The Float examines the floating floor plates, by elevating the floor plates from the ground to the air to form a new urban condition. The width of each floor plate constrained by site condition, by extruding construction line from surrounding buildings, correlation was created from the architecture itself into the adjacency. To be concise, a elevated floor plate becomes a exterior garden for harvesting food in the concrete jungle of Oakland. The floor plate is supported by the concrete shear wall structure which holds the main program such as dining, kitchen and such. The intersection of the concrete boxes and floor plate will then becomes program such as greenhouse and growing room on the second level. The concept of floating floor plate will then extend to the roof, the roof are elevated from the shear wall to create a floating effect while it overlaps with the floor plate below to help filter out the harsh sunlight to give the interior a more ambient lighting condition. The strategy for the site layout is simple, by erecting a concrete cluster in the middle of the site aperture is created. Drive thru could then be able to pass through one of the aperture. Parking is situated by the periphery of the structure. Recycling and disposal area are place in the inner corner of the site boundary along with the alley way. Drive thru user will access the drive from International Boulevard turn on right into the site and make a left into the gap between the inner two boxes (Community kitchen and Staff Room) with another two in front (Storage and Main Kitchen). In terms of materials, precast concrete and aluminium panel to give a cleaner finish. Community kitchen has a convenient access to the Roof Harvest Garden, participant of the community kitchen will have a first hand experience with how fresh vegetable are grown. While giving chance for the locals in the area to learn how to eat nutritiously in a right way.
