The Way Forward
With so much competition, we’ll need to give a strong performance in these areas:
Client facing image In order to make a splash in the local creative industry, we’ll need a strong presence in social media to give the presence of a capable team. Some agencies have a very strong, client facing portfolio and message that gives the illusion of a large, well managed team. In reality, some of these turn out to be a complete mess and very small teams of 2-4 people. Reassuring any potential client that we are professional and trustworthy is a large part of any potential bid for work.
Pushing our credentials Honestly speaking there are plenty of very poor examples of work being created for local businesses that we should be bidding for. The abilities of our team are much stronger than those of ‘Ads’ and with larger agencies like Torpedo vying for larger out of county/ country work; we should have a decent chance of winning some attractive local business. Showing what we’ve (HOTH) been built on with in depth profiles on all of our major work will help us greatly. Well laid out, photographed and detailed examples of our work need to feature on the website. The IOG site does this to an extent, but it’s clearly not showing off the work as well as it could. (The presentation of work on this site is great: mark-making.com)
Profiles on each team member could help the client choose us over someone else. Putting in a human touch is obviously important, but background info praising our talents would be an advantage. (Excellent team page examlpe: torpedogroup.com/people)
Sharing news/information Using social media to share our latest work and give an insight into the office is a good idea. A very good example of this is BBD Creative in Ayr, an agency that has a very good understanding in how to project a friendly, experienced team to potential clients. Their Twitter account shares the office with clients, showing transparency and trust:
Team updates
Design tips
These Tweets/photos can be staged. Will also need to make sure to take advantage of possible team photo oportunities at events and our monthly pub visit. Celebrate staff birthdays, holidays and events. Another important step would be a blog section on the website to share updates, ideas and tips. This can be further extended to a page in B4 Magazine (article or news piece) and some short posts on the New B4 site.
Exposure Print: My first idea in drumming up business was to make a small booklet. High quality stock with high quality print. It’ll serve as a brief overview into what we do and what we can offer. Web: A possible redesign of the website. Make it cleaner looking and let the work speak for itself. It’s currently a bit too busy and doesn’t stand up well against the local heavy hitters. (As an example, compare with www.torpedogroup.com) Cross publication interaction: Having HOTH branding on our products will help where it won’t look out of place. Interaction with LIO and B4 may be beneficial. Video: Making a video to give an idea into our work enviroment may be a possiblity, but not really an important step. Sharing all video work we’ve done for clients is very important though.
