Piiri house

Location: Hyvinkää,Finland Project tag:

Prefab expandable wooden house

Project area: 15 sqm Project initiator: Aalto University [Wood program] Year: 2013 Status: Completed

Piiri house provides a minimal living space for one person in 15 sqm. This includes areas for living, working, resting, cooking and cleaning based on a circle (“Piiri”) plan which is divided into 4 sqm space units. These units can be combined in various configurations based on their radial geometry. The basic living unit can be supplemented with storage, sauna, greenhouse or terrace units. The units are constructed of light plywood and structural timber elements. The exterior cladding is finished with semi-transparent paint and the interiors are birch plywood with spruce battens. A special shelving system provides variable storage possibilities and LED lights are integrated into the interior cladding system in order to minimize the need for additional appliances in the small space.

TEOPANZOLCO STATE CULTURAL AUDITORIUM

Location: Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico Project tag:

State Cultural Auditorium

Project area: 9000 sqm Client: State government of Morelos Year: 2014 Status: Competition-Finalist

The proposal of TEAM 730 for the Cultural Auditorium in the Municipality of Cuernavaca, Morelos, is based on the recognition and placing in historical, archaeological, social, cultural and environmental value, depending on the location of the property and the characteristics of its context. It is an ambitious project in its use but highly respectful of its immediate environment. Symbiotically, the architectural elements and their design features are intertwined with the natural elements so that the visuals of the archaeological zone are not affected. The proposal is designed with the ability to adapt to a number of types of artistic or cultural activities, without affecting the immediate context and the elements that compose it. It is considered a strategic space for the cultural, artistic development and recognition of the tradition and history for the inhabitants of Cuernavaca and of Mexico in general by its meaning.

Location: Mexico city, Mexico Project tag:

Wooden terrace

Project area: 90 sqm Client: Private Year: 2015 Status: Completed

In Mexico City seventy percent of the constructions are desert roofs that have great potential if they are involved with vegetation and light structures. So this unoccupied rooftop immersed in Mexico City, intervened to create a space of respite in which the user could enjoy the sun, garden, and above all a more intimate and pleasant space. It is conceived a new panorama in which the interior and exterior merge, creating a single space in a single platform that allows to go to any point without going down a single step because everything is lived on a single level. We opted for a light, fast and dry constructive system using a metal structure lined with wood, respecting the original structure of the building and leaving it intact. The material used as the wood gives us an excellent structural capacity for its lightness within this seismic zone, isolation and a speed in its execution compared to a conventional construction.

Location: Oxaca, Mexico Project tag:

San Pablo Link Center

Project area: 1300 sqm Client: State University of Oaxaca UABJO Year: 2014 Status: Open Competition - Finalist

The Open Competition, had as a purpose a new cultural-social building for the university community. This property will be located in the Historic Center of Oaxaca, and will be a reference of the University and for the city, consolidating the intellectual, governmental and private efforts to preserve, generate and spread the Art and Culture. The historic center of Oaxaca was inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1987. The challenge was to insert a contemporary building, so the proportions of the facade respond directly to the surrounding buildings, with a minimal variant accentuating its contemporaneity. Achieving an optimal integration within his historical context, in addition to reducing the pre-existing height to a more homogeneous. The proportion of spans and massifs derive in a grid that at street level extend the reach of the pedestrian sidewalk by allowing the permeability of the public space to the interior of the building, its facade is permeable by both fronts from the street.

ZAPOTE HOUSE

Location: Tulum, Mexico Project tag:

Housing

Project area: 880 sqm Client: Private Year: 2016 Status: In progress

This house is inserted within an ecological reserve 10km from the caribbean sea, this area has restrictions where the constructions have to be self-sustaining and it is prohibited to remove any kind of trees. That is why as design premise was thought to make a very simple geometry, flexible and easy to execute and without throwing a single tree, that made us in some cases include trees in interior spaces of the house. The topography of the property is quite steep, with dense vegetation and the tropical climate that includes tropical rains for almost 7 months a year. This is why the house was located at the highest level of the land to avoid flooding, protect it from animals and raise a little to get a better view. The project consists of two boxes stacked one of the other generating a „T“, on the ground floor is generated the social and service area which extends to the area of outdoor terraces and pool. On the upper floor is the private area with the bedrooms, which are suspended and isolated almost entirely.

tHE FORGOTTEN LANDSCAPE IN MEXICO CITY RAVINES

Location: Mexico city River ravine restoration, Project tags: pedestrianisation. Project area: 900 ha Project initiator: Guillermo Delgado de Ita Year: 2017 Status: In progress

Mexico City is located in a valley, two thousand meters above sea level, and surrounded by mountains among a rich network of lakes, wetlands and rivers. However, rapid urban growth has drastically reduced its natural ecology. Today, Mexico City is on the brink of a severe water crisis. A trans-volcanic axis on the western part is etched with a rugged topography of ravines, which are of vital importance as the riverbed it sits on leads on to become the primary drainage system for the city. The increased occupancy of informal settlements, along these ravines is an imminent danger, causing the soil to erode and gradually wither away. These ravines are further damaged by its inhabitants, with illegal discharge and currently serve as dumping grounds leading it to become forgotten and denied.
