COACHING STAFF Head Coach Shannon Billings, 2nd Season Shannon Billings (formerly Shannon Murphy) enters her second season as the lady Warriors head coach after guiding RC all the way to the USCAA national title game in her first season. RC won 26 games in 2014 and qualified for the USCAA national tournament and A.I.I. conference tournament. Under the guidance of Billings, junior outside hitter Paige TenBrink (Hudsonville, Mich./ Jenison H.S.) led the USCAA in kills with 389 and collected first team all-american honors. Freshman outside hitter Lexus Medina (Wayne, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran H.S.) was named a second team all-american after ranking sixth in the country in kills with 310 while senior Chelsea Potter (Byron, Mich./Byron H.S.) earned honorable mention USCAA all-american honors. The A.I.I. also recognized several of the lady Warriors players as TenBrink and Medina were named first team all-A.I.I. performers and Potter was named to the second team. Juniors Kayla Loepp (Roseville, Mich./Roseville H.S.) and Tara VanDenburg (Battle Creek, Mich./Kellogg C.C.) were named honorable mention. Billings, who was born in Flint, Mich. graduated from Linden High School where she played volleyball and soccer. After graduation Billings went on to play at Mott Community College and Siena Heights before finishing her career at Concordia University under head coach Justin Martin. During Murphy’s career at CUAA she became an academic all-american twice and also left her mark in the record books as she sits in the top five for career block assists for the Cardinals. During her fifth year at Concordia, Billings served as a student assistant coach for the volleyball program. Billings began her ascend through the coaching ranks seven years ago when she began helping out at local middle school camps and clinics. She spent four years as the 16 national coach for the Huron Valley Volleyball Club. In 2011, Billings was named the varsity head coach at Ypsilanti High School where she spent two seasons. In 2013 Billings took over as Skyline High School’s head varsity volleyball coach and went 19-21 in her first season. While coaching for local high school Billings also continued to coach at the club level where she has coached in the Huron Valley and Legacy Volleyball Clubs. She also spent a year head coaching Eastern Michigan University’s women’s club volleyball program. Shannon married Nate Billings, who serves as an assistant coach for the Warriors, in December of 2014. Shannon and Nate reside in Rochester, Mich.
