ANIMATION
WHAT IS ANIMATION? Animation is the process of designing, drawing, making layouts and preparation of photographic sequences which are integrated in multimedia and gaming products.
WHAT DO ANIMATORS DO? The animator’s job is to take the script and the director’s vision and bring characters to life. Animators generally fall into two main categories: 2D & 3D
2D Animators Animators 2D Animators use traditional, hand-drawn techniques or modern, digital tools to tell stories. They use the core principles of timing, spacing, and appeal to bring characters to life on screen.
D D 3 3 Animators 3D Animators use 3D software to accomplish many of the same things 2D animators do. In addition to the fundamental principles of animation, 3D animators use the advantages of modern software to push their artform to new levels.

Softwares
s s e e r r a a w w t f ft o o S S Autodesk Maya
If there’s a gold standard for 3D animation software it’s Maya. This is the go-to tool for professional animators and studios, and it’s crucial that new animators learn to use it. Although licenses can be expensive, Autodesk offers a free educational version.
s s e e r r a a w w t f ft o o S S Blender
Blender is gaining popularity as a high-quality but still free 3D animation tool. This software has grown in recent years to include better usability and exciting features. If the price of Maya is too much for you this is your next choice.

Houdini
Houdini is famous for giving artists the ability to create stunning visual effects. Like Maya, it’s a bit harder to learn, but there is a free version available for students.

Drawing Tablet
A drawing tablet is a tool used to create digital sketches. This is a must if you want to become a concept artist or simply draw out a scene for a storyboard. Wacom makes some of the better known products in this area.
A Good Computer
Animating scenes with complex rigs, atmospheric lighting, and multiple moving objects takes a lot of processing power. You’ll need fast memory and a good graphics card. If you are not sure exactly what to buy, high or mid-range gaming PCs should have what you need.
STYLES
2D Animation
2D animation is used to create flat, 2D characters and environments. The flexibility makes it a prominent choice for a variety of applications, including cartoons, promotional videos, explainer videos, and more. In traditional animation, each frame is meticulously hand drawn, which can be very time-consuming. Today, animators have access to digital tools and techniques that help to streamline the 2D animation process.

PRE-PRODUCTION
Storyboards are sketches similar to comic books that follow the action of the script and show how the characters will move in every scene. To plan the storyboard, animators use a bar sheet to organize the scenes. A bar sheet (or exposure sheet) is a table that contains the breakdown of the action, dialogue, and sound of every sequence. Storyboards don’t have to be as clean as the final animation, they are just rough sketches. The character’s features don’t have to be very exact either. However, there are storyboards that are very well elaborated and even colored. It depends on the artist who draws it.

Key animators
in-betweeners
Every character is assigned to one main animator, usually, the one who designed them, that will draw all the scenes where the mentioned character appears. Key animators draw the frames that have the essential poses of the characters without taking into account the fluidness of the movement.
The in-betweeners are the animators that receive the mainframes the key animator has created and fill them with more frames to make the movement flow and look real. The average number of frames a second has to contain is 24 frames per second. This procedure of filling the mainframes is called tweening
3D Animation
3D animation was revolutionary when it was introduced. 3D animation allowed animators to create more immersive, realistic animated experiences. 3D animation also has practical applications in industries like medicine and architecture. This is often used for full-length movies, interactive advertisements, commercials, and other marketing materials.

animatic
explanation
A moving form of the storyboard is called the animatic which will evolve into the final edit of the entire project. The animatic is created in its most simple form, portraying the sequence timing of the project through 2D storyboard drawings.
Stop Motion
Originating over a century ago, stop motion is one of the oldest animation styles and can be seen in many classic animated movies. Creators take pictures of still objects in a specific sequence and string these pictures together to create the illusion of movement. In addition to offering a unique aesthetic, stop motion is a fairly cost-efficient animation style due to a lack of need for expensive equipment and facilities.

Motion Capture
This allows creators to create ultrarealistic animations based on liveaction scenes. It is frequently used in the gaming industry to create realistic character animations and lifelike facial expressions. The motion capture animation process involves dressing actors up in suits that track their movements and interactions so that they can be recreated with computer graphics. Another more popular example is how they used motion capture for K/DA.

Motion Graphics
Motion graphics focuses on making dynamic and interesting presentations of moving text logos and basic illustrations. Motion graphics can be both 2D and 3D, and you'll find them everywhere in commercials, explainer videos, sporting events, the news and other TV productions. Proper character animation is generally outside the scope of motion graphics, but many of the core animation principles apply to motion graphics too.
