we call it Rockford. While our engineers are passionate about what they design and create, we have a special product validation team that just focuses on ensuring every Rockford Fosgate product is nothing short of perfect. In fact we have an entire process of stringent practices that MUST take place before a woofer, amp or loudspeaker even gets shipped from our Tempe, Arizona facility. We use a FARO arm with laser scanner to ensure our speakers are PERFECTLY round, a “Boom Room that torture tests our woofers to the point of failure and every amplifier that we ship is burned-in no less than twentyfour hours.

Our loudspeaker engineers have developed proprietary technology that packs MORE CONE AREA into a standard size loudspeaker than ever before. VAST (Vertical Area Surround Technology) achieves up to 25% more cone than our previous generation loudspeakers & certainly more than our nearest competitor. Rockford’s philosophy is you deserve MORE! Many manufactures place a power number on a box because at some point their amplifier managed to squeak out that power number. Rockford Fosgate takes a totally different approach as to how we rate our amps. In actuality our amplifiers exceed our box rated power numbers in many cases by 20% or more. So what does that mean for you? If we rate an amplifier at 1000 watts we know it will do it and keep performing over and over again. Bottom line, there is NO BS here . . . In a sea of amplifiers claiming max this & rms that, when you buy a Rockford Fosgate amp you can have the confidence that it’s going to do EXACTLY what we said it will.

ur search for true Rockford Fanatics takes us clear around the globe to South Africa. Known for its exotic landscape situated between the Indian and Atlantic oceans, diamond mines as well as a culture rich in diversity, it’s also the home of Jan Steyn, owner of Auto Sound Engineering.
A cross between a car audio fanatic and an absolute petrol head, Jan has been a certified Rockford Fosgate fanatic since 1993. Located in Pretoria, South Africa, Jan has had one goal in mind since opening his store, to absolutely dominate the sound quality circuit. Jan has a unique love for Subaru and he’s created an absolutely amazing show car based on the WRX STI X. His aim was to create a vehicle that was truly unique and came up with the idea of using the trunk of the vehicle to house a 2nd motor, which would actually be the audio system. With painstaking detail, Jan crafted a replica of the famous Subaru “flat four” motor in the trunk. His creation is complete with a turbo charger, blow off valve, manifold and nitrous bottle. The installation features (2) T400-4 amplifiers, used as the heads of the motor, a Punch 150 25 To Life amplifier as the intercooler, 3Sixty.2 to serve as the car’s ECU and a 10 Farad Rockford Fosgate Capacitor as the power source. The car uses the T1652 components front and rear, and a T2 10” subwoofer that acts as the flywheel of the motor. Of course, nothing but Rockford Fosgate cables, interconnects and accessories are used to ensure maximum performance. “Performance for me is paramount in everything that I do. Rockford Fosgate’s products deliver maximum performance, unbelievable sound quality and look the part too,” smiles Steyn. At first glance, most think that the 2nd motor is the real deal, yeah it’s that convincing. Of course Jan is quick to point out that this motor moves at the “speed of sound!” To showcase other aspects of Auto Sound Engineering’s specialty products, Jan tricked out his Subaru including a one-off custom bodykit, 20” custom wheels and increased the power plant to 450HP.

choose/prepare/connect a proper ground

The prior “big three” HOW TO article (see youtube.com) outlined the upgrade of your vehicle’s main current carrying wires. That upgrade combined with this HOW TO article on proper grounding techniques will reduce noise, ensure the best possible current flow, and maximize the performance of your Rockford Fosgate audio system.

Tools/Products Needed: Rockford Fosgate AWG Wire, Rockford crimp ring terminal(i.e. RFTS1), Non-Anodized bolt w/ compatible fender washers, lock washer with nut, sandpaper or alternative tool to remove paint from the metal surface.
Begin by preparing the grounding cable. Strip 5/8” of insulation from the end of the wire, then securely crimp the compatible size ring terminal to the end.
Complete your ground by securing the ground cable to the chassis ground. Bolting the ground ensures you will have maximum contact. A proper ground is: • Clean of residue and paint • Equal ground wire gauge as compared to the power wire gauge • Has a resistance return of 00.5 Ω or less • SECURE!
D
B
• Poorly crimped • Metal surface has only been sanded down to the primer and not to bare metal • A screw is not the preferred mounting method
Prepare the chassis ground by scraping ALL paint/ primer from the metal surface and thoroughly clean the area of any dirt and grease. Be sure to have adequate surface area for the entire ring terminal to make contact to bare metal.

Location: The majority of vehicles on the road are a combination of metals, spot welds, glued together unibody panels and isolated chassis components. So choose a location that consists of a substantial mass of solid metal. Contrary to popular belief factory bolts are NOT a good ground location (i.e. seat bolt). The majority of factory bolts attach to a nut that is typically tack welded in place and are designed to hold something in place. This method DOES NOT provide ample current transfer.
You can verify the quality of the ground by checking the resistance in ohms using a digital multi meter (DMM). Set your DMM to Ω, then place one probe on the ground you have created and the other on the factory battery ground. Remember resistance cannot be measured accurately on a live circuit.

• Poorly crimped and stray wire strands • Metal surface area is improperly prepped • Regardless of how many you use, drywall screws do not work
Tip: It is recommended to ground the source unit at the same location as your amplifier/s and other audio equipment to eliminate any possible ground loops. This is typically the first step in trouble shooting engine noise.

HOWto
identifying harness wires IN A factory radio
rd Fosgate RT
Search:Rockfo
TI
Identifying the wires in a factory radio harness is an important part for proper installation of any of the Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty OEM integration products, whether it is power/signal for a signal processor (3Sixty.1/3Sixty.2), line driver (RF-BLD) or power for the iPod charger in one of the Rockford Fosgate integration for iPod products. Following this tutorial will ensure correct wire identification.
1
Tools Needed: Multimeter, Test Lead Kit, Tone/Pulse Generator, Polarity Tester
4
3
2
Begin by removing the factory installed radio. Vehicle specific how-to information can commonly be found on 12volt/car audio forums and vehicle specific forums. (i.e. www.the12volt.com, www.vwvortex.com)
5
12V Constant (battery): First, verify the vehicle ignition switch is in the OFF position. Then you will need to change the setting on the multimeter to direct current(DC) voltage(V). Now place the common probe (typically black) from the multimeter to a vehicle ground. *We used alligator clips to hold the common probe to ground. This leaves a hand free to manipulate the harness. Your setup is now complete. Continue by testing each wire in the harness with the multimeter’s positive probe (typically red), noting your findings. *Typically you will only find one wire that reads 12.00VDC on the meter. Note your findings in the OEM column below
Aftermarket*
OEM
Yellow Red Black Speakers Gray Front Right (+) Front Right ( ) Gray w/ Black Stripe White Front Left (+) White w/ Black Stripe Front Left ( ) Purple Rear Right (+) Rear Right ( ) Purple w/ Black Stripe Green Rear Left (+) Green w/ Black Stripe Rear Left ( ) 12V Constant (battery) 12V Switched (ignition) Ground
12V Switched (ignition): Maintain your multimeter settings from the previous step, DC Voltage and common probe to ground. However, you will now need to change the vehicle ignition switch to the accessory (ACC) position. Proceed by testing each wire in the harness with the positive probe, noting your findings. *Typically you will only find one wire that reads 12.00VDC on the meter with the vehicle ignition in the accessory and run positions, besides the wire you noted above.
6
Ground: Start by turning the vehicle ignition switch back to the OFF position. You will also need to change the setting on the multimeter to continuity, leaving the common probe connected to the vehicle probe as described in the previous test. Now test each wire in the harness with the positive probe, noting your findings. *The multimeter will typically indicate continuity with an audible tone. Some illumination/dimmer wires can read ground; this can be verified by turning on the headlights which will break the ground.
*Aftermarket wire colors are typical.
Speakers: Begin by verifying the vehicle ignition is still in the OFF position. You can now disconnect the multimeter’s common probe from ground. Continue by changing the setting on the multimeter to impedance(Ω). Now place the common probe on one of the harness wires, and then test each of the remaining wires with the positive probes, noting your findings. Repeat this test by moving the common probe until all combinations have been tested. *Impedance readings on original equipment manufacturer(OEM) speakers can read from 01.008.0Ω; however a typical reading is 04.0Ω. Tip: Some vehicles come equipped with a factory installed amplifier. In this case the same wire identifying procedures can be used at the amplifier’s wiring harness as well.
Polarity: Once you have located your speaker wire pairs you will still need to determine the correct polarity of each set. This can easily and safely be done by using a tone/pulse generator coupled with a polarity tester. *If these additional tools are not available to you, this can also be done with a 9V battery and visually identifying what direction the cone travels. If the speaker’s polarity is correct it will move outwards. CAUTION: Using this method can damage the speakers or if the battery current is connected to incorrect harness wires, this can result in damage to other vehicle components.

heard one rattle or creak. This is actually a very good enclos ure, and because it’s made of ABS instead of MDF, it’s lightweigh t and is immune to moisture proble ms. As it turns out, the amoun t of EQ built into the amplifier and the choice of crossover points, com bined with the enclosure tuning, and this natural sounding paper con e woofer, all came together exc eptionally well. Fast, detailed bass lines from the late great Jaco Pastorius were reproduced wit h very good clarity and definition. The system plays quite low too , as Don Dorsey’s pipe organ trac ks showed. Of course it does give up a little bit of very low frequen cy output to a sealed system, but what it loses there it more tha n makes up for in increased out put above about 30Hz. Rock and Rap music really make the Ove rload system shine, and whether you listen to 50 Cent or Keith Urban, the system works very well. Kick drum notes were natural soundi ng with the batter strike and the resonance reproduced faithfu lly. I did occasionally wish for a bit mo re gain in the amplifier, as it see med to take a fair bit more signal to drive the PS300-12 than my ma in amplifier. The system didn’t lack power by any means, it just nee ded more input signal than norma l. On the Bench Of course while I had things apa rt, I took the opportunity to measure the amplifier’s perform ance, and I’m happy to report it exceeded all the published spe cs. The amp developed 319 wat ts, and distortion was very low at 0.07%. The signal to noise rati o also measured very good at -92 dBA referenced to 2V of output . Efficiency was decent too, wit h a full power efficiency of jus t over 67% at full 2 ohm power. The Overload system isn’t like ly to overload your charging sys tem as it drew a maximum of 33.0 amperes of current at full pow er. As I mentioned previously, the electronics in the amp have bee n massaged to suit this specific application, which is a benefit you don’t get on an amplifier that may have to drive everything from a pair of 4” coaxes to 15” woofe rs. The amp has a built-in pre set EQ curve, as well as a subson ic filter, and a low pass crosso ver. Because the engineers knew exa ctly what woofer and enclosure would be used, they could sim ply design the right settings into the amp, and save everyone the hassle of trying to figure it out for themselves. Conclusion The PS300-12 “Overload” sys tem is a great solution for anyone who wants authen tic sub-bass performance but is reluctant to either spend a lot of time and money trying to design something the mselves, or if you simply need to add a “real wo ofer” to an otherwise decent sounding system. While not cheap at $799.99, you know you are going to get a system that works properly and you may end up saving money compared to what it could cost if you hav e to re-do things to get the performance you’re lookin g for. It’s a good looking and relatively small system tha t will fit in almost any application. But the best part of it, as it should be, is the way it sounds. My buddy now understands what his OEM system was missing, but with a Rockford Fosgate PS300-12 Overload sys tem in his trunk, he’s now bumpin’ with the best of them.

nce in a lifetime a story about a Rockford Fanatic not only stirs passion for the audio lifestyle but has the ability to inspire the lives of so many people. Without question the story of this award winning 2007 Cadillac Escalade is it. The vision of Brad Fowler, this is more than just another custom truck but a celebration of life, a passion for cars and love for audio. Tragically, Brad was unable to see his vision become a reality, his vibrant and giving life cut short. It was decided by the family to finish the Escalade and Jessica, Brad’s sister would complete Brad’s dream of putting it in the Ocean City, MD car/truck show in June 2008. The Fowler family gave us unrestricted access to Brad’s dream vehicle and the opportunity to share Brad’s story with the world. Brad started the project in early 2007. Low & slow, Brad’s vision took over five months just to plan before he found just the right mix of components and a custom fabricator for his Escalade project. “His dream was to have the best show car in Calvert County, Brad knew exactly what he wanted, which was the loudest audio system, lots of TVs, video, airbags and custom rims,” says his Mom, Brenda. A Rockford Fanatic, Brad knew the only equipment for his dream truck was Rockford Fosgate.

This custom Escalade is full tilt Rockford. Filling the custom tuned rear box are eight P3D212 Punch Subs, powered by six T1000-1bd Power Amplifiers. All four doors carry two sets of T162-S Power components each, with another set of T162-S Power components placed in the center console as well as rear mounted set in the cargo hatch. The mids and highs are driven by two T600-4 Power amplifiers. To keep things balanced and tuned a Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty signal processor is employed, the DSP adding realism to the XBOX360, Playstation 3 & ten video monitors. “When Brad would get something new he’d tweak, fine tune & play – spending hours on every detail in the garage. He was extremely passionate about audio & video,” laughs Duce, Brad’s friend.

An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Brad turned to the Texas based guys at Ekstensive Metalworks, featured in Volume 1.0, to do the highly detailed fabrication to turn the Escalade into a serious show truck. Ekstensive fitted custom upper and lower control arms, firestone airbags, notched the firewall, fender wells and floorboards. Even the factory fuel tank was replaced with a custom fuel cell to accommodate the extreme drop. “The complete build took over a year to complete and became a very personal build for us because of the circumstances,” says Mitch Ralls of Ekstensive Metalworks. While Brad never got to see his creation finished his compassion to others was evident as those involved with the project focused in on the one event Brad dreamed of attending with his custom Escalade. “Thoughtfulness and generosity is what made Brad so special. He didn’t have just one best friend, all his friends

Over 10,000 Watts were best friends,” smiles Brenda, Brad’s Mom. Brad’s passion for vehicles, football and Rockford Fosgate audio translated into everything and everyone he interacted with. Jessica, along with Brad’s friends, worked with Ektensive to get the Escalade done just like Brad wanted. The Texans with Ektensive personally delivered the truck to the Fowler residence. “It was a very emotional day to watch the Escalade being unloaded from the trailer,” remembers Brenda Fowler. Brad’s 2007 custom Escalade did make the grade at the Ocean City Car & Truck Show in Maryland in 2008. In fact it took the coveted Mayor’s Award at this show. Since then his sister, Jessica and friend Duce have won every show they’ve entered with Brad’s Escalade.

HOWto Build A High-Output Subwoofer Enclosure
ord Fosgate
Search:Rockf
RT TI
A high-output subwoofer enclosure is an enclosure design with a built-in slot style port that is calculated for maximum bass. These examples have been designed by the experts at RTTI using the latest enclosure design software. They are then built and tested in many different vehicles to ensure maximum performance in all applications.
1
2
Supplies: Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) Wood Glue, Box Carpet, Contact Adhesive, Nails or Screws
Select the size and type of subwoofer. The actual dimensions for the enclosure can be modified as long as the internal volume and port are equal to the RTTI specified enclosure.
4
5
Build the port first. The end of the port should be rounded over on both sides to reduce air turbulence. Use wood glue and nails to attach the 2 parts of the port together. Paint the inside of the port for that clean look.
Dry fit the parts of the enclosure first before applying glue or nails. Label your parts so you know where they go. (e.g. baffle, top, sides, port, etc.) Apply wood glue to all the joints and secure them with nails or screws.
Find the location in the center of the baffle where the woofer will be mounted. Mark this location and drill a 1/8 inch hole. Use the RTTI woofer hole cutting jig to cut the exact hole for the woofer. Use a router with a flush trim bit to cut the opening for the port.
8
Apply the contact adhesive on the enclosure and the box carpet. Allow the adhesive to dry for 2-3 minutes before adhering the box and carpet together. Trim off the excess carpet, and cut out the openings for the woofer and port.
VOLUME ROCKFORDFOSGATE.COM
Use a table saw to cut the enclosure parts to the desired sizes. Be sure to leave the safety features of your power tools in place. Measure twice and cut once.

Proprietary 12” subwoofer
Overload Delivers Deep Tight Bass in a Sleek All-In-One Solution. This isn’t some low power “cone in a tube,” the Rockford Fosgate Overload comes to the party with a true 300 watts (max) of power and a 12” woofer enough to overload even the most bass hungry enthusiast. Quick disconnects give you the option for rapid removal for let’s say a set of golf clubs, or leave it in and tee-up some doom.
• “Closed-loop” design ensures optimum performance between subwoofer, amplifier and enclosure
Integrated Punch amplifier • 300 watt P.O.W.E.R. (Power Output Without Excessive Regulation) amplifier • Removable power/ground connector • RCA and speaker level inputs with auto turn-on circuit • On board EQ restoration
Compact ABS enclosure • Optimized slot ported enclosure • Woofer “loading plate” adds acoustical output and protects woofer from damage • Multiple mounting configurations - vertical and horizontal

Short on Space But Want Killer Bass? The ultra compact Rockford Fosgate IBeam, IB-200, is your secret agent in the pursuit of the ultimate bass experience. Declassified as a tactile transducer, the I-beam is designed to stimulate your sense of touch with a heart pounding power handling of 250 watts RMS. We like our IBeam’s mounted directly to the seat frame here at Rockford. When spooled up on your frame, IBeam’s energy transfer will turn any system into a system that’s licensed to kill.
The ultimate vehicle specific bass solution • No enclosure needed… just plug and play • Measures only H 2” x W 4.25” x L 6.875” • Mounts in any position and can be completely hidden/covered • Can be used with or without a traditional subwoofer • (Patent #7,402,922)
How does it work? • Accurately and efficiently energizes the listener’s auditory cortex without pressurizing surrounding air • Transmits information via bone harmonics, skin galvanic (electrical properties of skin) and other direct stimulus routes
Localized bass • When attached to a resonant surface, it will be ‘felt’ by only the listener in comparison to the sound produced by subwoofers and ordinary speakers • An optimum sound quality level is often reached when you can just feel rather than hear the bass • Reduced “noise pollution”
Under-Seat Mount
Multiple installation opportunities • Home theater • Gaming • Simulators • Amusement parks • Studios • Hearing impaired • Rear seat entertainment • Bass augmentation to existing automotive and home systems
