Create a Picture Book Competition 2019 Have you ever wanted to be a children's author? Does your child have the most amazing stories to tell? Now is your chance to turn imagination into reality by creating a children’s book suitable for a child aged under 5 years, and entering Rockhampton Regional Libraries' Picture Book Competition. You are only limited by your imagination! All ages are encouraged to participate in the competition, with some great prizes to be won. Masterclass of Revolting Writing with Mark Svendsen Well-loved author and poet Mark Svendsen loves to ‘see the light go on’ in kids’ eyes, particularly when they ‘get’ literary devices and descriptive language. He believes that through age-appropriate challenges, students can discover for themselves how their own simple self-directed effort can make the ordinary shine. Mark’s works of poetry, picture books, junior fiction and young adult fiction, are published by UQP (Jam Roll), Hachette, Lothian Books, Houghton Mifflin (USA) and Random House (Woolshed). history Have you done your spring cleaning? Many people become overwhelmed with the material that tends to be accumulated over a year, or indeed a lifetime. The Rockhampton History Centre accepts a range of documentary heritage to add to various archival collections to help build an insight into the social activity of the region. These are important records which help assist researchers, local historians and family members well into the future. These are examples of the types of material that can be donated to the collection: •
Old books with subject matter relating to the CQ region

Receipts, fliers or business cards from local businesses

Minute books, booklets, photos from local community organisations which may have disbanded
•
Old photographs relevant to the area (these can be copied and added to the collection)

School newsletters, yearbooks, presentation handouts and concert information

Tax Help Program If you need help lodging your tax return, you may be eligible for the free Tax Help program if your income is around $60,000 or less for the year. Tax Help is a network of ATO-trained and accredited community volunteers who provide a free and confidential service to help people complete their tax returns online using myTax. Tax Help is available from July to October in all capital cities and many regional areas across Australia, including Rockhampton. To make your appointment with the Tax Help volunteer at the Southside Library, contact the Library Administration office on 4936 8043.
