ROCKHAMPTON REGION Major Projects Outlook

The current outlook for the Rockhampton Region is positive with a number of major projects and infrastructure developments either committed or nearing commitment in the local area and wider region. These projects are anticipated to have positive short and long term impacts on the region’s economy and population.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Renewable energy projects in the Rockhampton region will fuel economic growth, generate employment and work towards a climate safe future. The Rockhampton region has several renewable projects proposed including;

Moah Creek Renewable Energy Project

Mt Hopeful Wind Farm and Battery Storage

• Clarke Creeke Wind Farm

• Boulder Creek Wind Farm

Bouldercombe Battery Storage

AUSTRALIA SINGAPORE MILITARY TRAINING INITIATIVE (AMSTI)

Located at Shoalwater Bay, 80 kilometres north of Rockhampton.

• Co-funded by the Australian Defence Force and Singapore Armed Forces

Laing O’Rourke is the managing contractor of the $1 billion project

• Commitment to an 80% local procurement target

• Numerous contractors required to complete the works

Construction commenced 2020, completion expected 2024.

ROCKHAMPTON RING ROAD

Providing a western link of the Bruce Highway from the Capricorn Highway - Gracemere to Yeppoon Road/Bruce Highway intersection in the north and will include a new crossing of the Fitzroy River.

• Over $1.7 billion road infrastructure construction project

Construction early works started in late 2022

Proposed construction tender packages will be released in due course

• Construction to be staged between 2023-2027

ROOKWOOD WEIR

Nearing completion, the $367.2 million project will capture valuable water in the lower Fitzroy River for use across the region.

The weir will create considerable water security and generate extensive agricultural development.

• Construction commenced 2020, completion expected 2023. Work packages associated with the delivery of the project include road upgrades, bridge construction and bulk earthworks.

BOWEN & GALILEE BASIN COAL

Rockhampton is perfectly located as a services Hub for the mines of the Bowen and Galilee basins.

• Over 40 coal mines currently operating

• A number of mines currently in construction and also awaiting approvals

The Bravus Carmichael Mine and Rail project utilises Rockhampton as a port for a large portion of their contract and workforce procurement.

MOUNT MORGAN GOLD MINE

Heritage Minerals are planning to breathe new life into the Mount Morgan site by reprocessing old tailings and rehabilitating the site.

• 250 jobs during construction and then around 150 jobs will be required to run the commissioned mine

Approximately 80% of project spending will happen in Northern Australia majority occurring in the Rockhampton

• Construction expected to start mid 2023, completion by 2024.
