2012-13 PRESIDENT’S REPORT
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear alumni, friends and benefactors of Rockhurst University, Reflection and discernment. This core value captures the University’s commitment to an examined life. It all begins with one’s experience which naturally invites reflection upon the experiences. The reflection stirs up gratitude within one’s heart and provides clarity about what to do next. It results in action known as service. And the service we speak of is “being men and women for and with others.” It’s healthy, appropriate and nourishing to reflect on our own experiences. This is reflecting upon the movements of our heart and reason. It instructs us to say thanks to God for what has taken place and to say yes to God for what’s to come. Reflection and discernment was the core value we chose for the 2012-13 academic year – a historic year for the University in many ways (see page five for a year in review). Before moving forward, we must take a moment to reflect on all that we have been blessed with throughout the past year. This report does just that by showcasing some of Rockhurst’s recent achievements, as well as offering important financial information. Thank you for your support in helping the University continue its tradition of providing a Catholic, Jesuit education: reflecting upon the experiences to date and discerning where God will lead us next. Best wishes,
Thomas B. Curran President
2012-2013 FINANCIALS
For the sixth year in a row, Rockhurst closed the 2012-13 fiscal year with an operating surplus. The primary drivers of this positive outcome were the increase in undergraduate enrollment, successful fundraising efforts for our planned new academic building, and excellent endowment results.
