“Full of bolshy spirit.” - NME “We could be witnessing the emergence of another great British band. Jaw droppingly good.” - Gigslutz “I'm really into that, they're making an unholy noise and we like that a lot.” Phil Taggart, BBC Radio 1 The Velvet Hands release their new single Only Blame Myself on 26 January on Zen10 via Easy Ac on Records. Born out of the much lauded NME coined ‘Kernow Wave’, Cornwall’s blistering garage-rock scene, and now a focal part of London’s rising underground guitar movement, The Velvet Hands are being heavily championed by the likes of Mikey Jonns (This Feeling / Radio X) among others. Consis ng of Toby Mitchell, Dan Able, Louis Willbourne and Sam Hilder, together they blend slacker story-telling and bel ng guitar riffs reminiscent of The Strokes or contemporaries such as The Vaccines, with rousing punk choruses that recall The Clash, and an onstage swagger that has seen the two tussling front-men Able and Mitchell likened to The Liber nes. Young whip snappers, The Velvet Hands have already released a string of successful D.I.Y singles, with latest Only Blame Myself following Games, Habit, Trains b/w Curtains Closed, I Don’t Mind and Sick of Living. The singles have collec vely garnered support from BBC Radio 1 Introducing (with the added ‘Tip of the Week’ accolade and inclusion on Best of BBC Introducing Playlist) and BBC 6 Music (with support from Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart, Radcliffe & Maconie, Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson), Radio X (John Kennedy) and BBC Introducing London (Gary Crowley), among many others. With the tastemaker press hailing them as nothing short of “Jaw droppingly good” (Gigslutz) and “The second coming of rock and roll” (For The Love of Bands). The Velvet Hands’ growing reputa on for super ght yet raucous high-energy live sets has resulted in them being booked for a run of big name gigs including the BBC Introducing stage at Boardmaster Fes val, successful shows across London including gigs at The 100 Club and The Water Rats, and support slots with the likes of The Bluetones, Yak, Wild Smiles and Sisteray.
