Interview With Iggie Pistolero September 26, 2014 By Londa R. Marks | Metal Music Interviews Published By Rock Legend News, Firenze, Italy and Tempi Dispari.it, Rome, Italy
Rock Legend News: Iggie Pistolero, you are guitarist and co-founding member of the hard core rock band, GYPSY PISTOLEROS. Your approach to music includes carving out your own identity as rebel and artist making you and your music one which results in elevated art in my opinion. Would you say this has been your approach to music overall or, is there a better way to describe how you’ve been evolving as an artist? Iggie Pistolero: It’s funny, I kinda never picture myself as ever being anything more than what I saw in bands as I grew up. I guess in the music world you are what you are. I never tend to try to be anyone more than who I am inside. At times, I get frustrated with the music biz and the whole way the industry works. But, the bottom line is that I’m only feeding my fire I have inside. Whilst people see me as a certain kinda person to me I’m a music fan who has a chance to write and play music I enjoy. If that makes sense. My whole image has arrived from just bein’ me and livin’ my true love of rock n’ roll. Rock Legend News: In August 2013 Gaz Harris and Wrathchild parted ways. Gaz joined Gypsy Pistoleros. He seems to fit the band perfectly. In fact, the band chemistry appears to be on fire. How do you feel about what is happening? Iggie Pistolero: Yea, Gaz has walked into the band at the right time after the departure of my fellow long time friend and singer Lee Pistolero. We started writing a new style of songs for the band, moving away from the Spanish influence which has a larger part of Lee’s idea than mine. I never understood why an English band would want to sing Spanish. I’m a big believer that you are what you are and the band is Engish. So, bingo! LOL. After all we could have just as easily sang in German, African, Polish. Where do you stop? Hahaha. But, ya get what I am saying. We are English, so let’s be what we are. PAGE 4 ROCK LEGEND NEWS
And, after all most people didn’t understand the whole gimic and it put more people off than attracted people. As the band is now, yea, it’s going well. I’m writing songs that I’d wanna hear myself. I guess time will tell if the unit is right and if it works. I’m just happy to do what I’m doing right now. Rock Legend News: Who has influenced you? Iggie Pistolero: God, this is always a tough one. I have a million influences. As a band I have to admit that Motley Crue have to have been my biggest influence; the cool basic rock n’ roll with the crazy party lifestyle. So, yeah, Crue. Also, Ratt, Marc Bolan, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, L.A. Guns, etc. The list could run forever. As a guitarist I would have to say Randy Rhoads, Schenker, Tracii Guns, Rory Gallagher, Warren D’Martini of Ratt. There are so many. It all depends on my mood to whoever that particular day influences me. Rock Legend News: The band released the single, “The Dirty Side Of Midnight” in January. The new album is out. What can you tell us about it? Iggie Pistolero: Yea, “Dirty Side of Midnight” was released. Sadly, the album has all been put back from problems stemming from our record company, or should I say, lack of…hahaha. Their help has not been what I wanted or expected from a company like Revolver Records. I know times change but come on, a little help wouldn’t go amiss. But, anyways, we are slowly getting back on track. We have been out playin’ the new songs, waiting for the right moment to unleash the CD. It’s a ll along the same vein as “Dirty Side of Midnight;” fun, catchy, tongue n’ cheek rock n’ roll with big hooks to keep ya singing all night long. All I can say is I have high hopes for it. Rock Legend News: Although you are from the UK, you and your band have a Los Angeles sound and look. World wide rock bands seem to align themselves with this American style. What do you think is missing with the UK or European bands? Iggie Pistolero: I don’t think anything is missing with bands outside America, I just think people always tend to lean towards American bands. Me? I don’t care what a band looks like or where they come from. It’s all about the ROCK LEGEND NEWS

songs. I think people are mistaking us for a glam band which we sure as hell aint. We are just trying to make ourselves look fun and hide a few wrinkles along the way. ;) LOL. But, to be honest, like I said, to me it’s the songs, good catchy songs. I can live without a band wearing eyeliner or having spikie hair but I can’t live without songs. I do love the whole party life style which does seem to lend its way towards the glam sleaze area but I sure don’t sit there thinking I am in a glam band. That part of me went long ago as I was growing up. Rock Legend News: I want to ask you the same thing I am asking others because it is a profound occurrence now. Why do you think the 80’s are re-igniting? I mean, it is like it’s 1985 in Colombia, South America; it is happening here in Italy and it is apparent all over the world that the 80’s and even the 70’s rock styles are becoming enlivened again. Iggie Pistolero: I’d have to say that the 80s had a fun element attached to it. I loved the 80s. It was fun ass times. But, times do move forward. The music scene is a big wheel. It goes round n’ round n’ round, so yea, it is comin’ back. But, it will never be the same. It will have a little something different in it. Hopefully, that will be us. I hope so ‘cause I’m busting my balls to make this band what it deserves to be; a touring rock n’ roll party! —XIGGZ
