Para esta temporada ROCK NIGHTS presenta “The News” un concepto basado en la imagen del mítico periódico británico del rock and roll Melody Maker que empezó a publicarse en 1926. 14 eventos exclusivos a los que sólo se podrán acceder con invitación. ROCK NIGHTS cumplirá este verano 11 años de existencia y está previsto un aniversario con muchas sorpresas. Algunos de los artistas confirmados que acompañarán a nuestros residentes Colin Peters y Lola Von Dage son Marky Ramone, Nasty Mondays, Vinila Von Bismark, Silvia Superstar o Miqui Puig entre otros.

We have the pleasure to announce that for the 3rd year in a row, ROCK NIGHTS will be the official VIP after show for the Ibiza Rocks concerts! It will be held, like always, in the legendary PIKES HOTEL, every Wednesday from the 15th June until the 14th September. This season´s concept is ROCK NIGHTS presents “The News”, a concept based on the fabled British rock ‘n’ roll magazine Melody Maker, which was founded in 1926. There will be 14 exclusive events, which are invite only. ROCK NIGHTS will be celebrating its 11th birthday this year and the anniversary will be full of surprises. Some of our artists confirmed, that will accompany our dear residents are: Marky Ramone, Nasty Mondays, Vinila Von Bismark, Silvia Superstar & Miqui Puig among others.

A NOTE FROM DIEGO CALVO

El pasado invierno sentado ante la chimenea con una botella de vino y leyendo uno de los antiguos periódicos de Melody Maker se me ocurrió la idea de basar la imagen del verano 2016 de Rock Nights en este mítico periódico británico de rock and roll.

Last winter I was sat in front of the chimney with a bottle of wine while reading some old copies of Melody Maker. I suddenly had the idea to base the image for this summer’s Rock Nights parties on this legendary British rock ‘n’ roll newspaper.

A raíz de esta idea nos animamos a tener nuestro propio periódico, con el propósito de poder promocionar nuestras fiestas de una manera diferente ya que la gente está cansada de ver flyers por todas partes. Hacer una fiesta en un sitio tan exclusivo como Pikes en el que no se venden entradas requiere una promoción muy personalizada.

From this idea we have been encouraged to create our own newspaper in order to be able to promote our parties in a different way. We are sure that people are tired of seeing flyers everywhere. When you hold a guest list only party in such an exclusive place as Pikes you need promotion with a personal touch.

¿Conoces todo sobre Rock Nights? Inteview by: Rosendo Morini

Rock Nights was born from a desire to create a party that was missing from Ibiza. I wanted to go to a place where you could hear guitars and a whole lot more! Together with my good buddy Colin Peters, who I already knew from when we worked together in Manumission, the party started as a get together for friends, and from there it started to grow. The first party was held in Rustic and for the next 2 years it regularly changed venue, including the club that my friend Tallyn had at the time. In 2007 I met Marcos Torres and Leyla, who is now my wife and the mother of my 2 young girls. I got together with these two wonderful people to make a team ready to professionalise the brand. Between 2008 and 2009 we held Rock Nights in Somni club in Ibiza. We came up with the idea that each party should have a theme and that the crowd should come dressed up according to this theme. The idea was that the crowd should be the star of each party. What fun we had in those parties! They bring back a lot of happy memories because we had such a good time getting dressed up as our favourite characters: Jack Sparrow, Prince, Elvis, Pete Doherty were just some of the celebrities that I dressed up as. In the end I had to hire extra space in a warehouse because I couldn’t store any more outfits in my house!

This crazy, uncontrollable rock ‘n’ roll party started to get the attention of the big clubs on the island and we started doing parties at Ushuaia when it was still a small beach club. In 2011 we held parties at Space all summer and the year after that at Privilege, as well as two winters in Pacha. These parties didn’t figure in our original plans because in the beginning all we wanted to do was to listen to rock ‘n’ roll instead of house. It was incredible listening to Nirvana on the Space terrace, The Hives in Pacha or Rebel Rebel by Bowie on the main floor of Privilege. We were joined by two new members in 2012, Raven who was in charge of the new logo and look for Rock Nights and Pedro Ubeda who helped with the Rock Nights Tour project, which visits 15 cities each year. He is now an integral part of the Rock Nights team. In 2013 we had a crisis because we could see that we were losing our brand identity in the big clubs on the island. It was then that Andy & Dawn from Ibiza Rocks, who I’ve been friends with for a long time, gave us a proposal to do Rock Nights every Wednesday in Pikes Hotel after the Ibiza Rocks concerts. We have been there ever since and it’s an understatement to say that Pikes is the best place in the world to do Rock Nights. What has been the best and the worst moment in Rock Nights?

In my opinion the worst moment was in 2009. We had spent more than one month preparing each day for the show of ex-member of Duran Duran, Andy Taylor, in Rock Nights. The theme of the party was futuristic outer space. We were all dressed up as astronauts, Ziggy Stardust etc. A couple of hours before the doors opened we received news that Andy had to cancel the show because of health problems. We were all very depressed because we had become very good friends with Andy and it was a show that we were especially looking forward to. A couple of bottles of hierbas helped us to get over the cancelation and luckily Andy was OK. The best moment is when we celebrate the anniversary of Rock Nights each year, taking a bite out of a huge cake while surrounded by friends and listening to “Rock The Night” by Europe.

What makes Rock Nights different from the rest of the parties in Ibiza? Firstly, the type of music that is played in our party. “We go against the tide”, as my friend Soren from Nasty Mondays said! Ibiza is the world capital of electronic music in the summer and we play rock! We put on music that we listened to since we began to go out in the 90s Secondly, the focus of the party. In Ibiza the focus of attention is the DJ, in the island´s big clubs the people whip out their mobile phone to take photos of the DJ and the posters for the events have photoshopped pictures of the big DJ´s striking poses. In our parties the crowd is the centre of attention not the DJ. It’s all about the vibe and the atmosphere, great music and a whole host of attractions such as Sunny’s karaoke in the bathroom, a stage where people can put together their own rock band, the crazy piano, Sleeve Faces corner and the darts zone.

Rock Nights empezó ante el deseo de asistir a una fiesta que no existía en la isla. Quería ir a algún lugar donde además de escuchar sonidos de guitarra hubiera algo más! Junto con mi buen amigo Colin Peters quien ya conocía de cuando trabajábamos juntos para Manumission todo empezó como una fiesta entre amigos y poco o a poco fue creciendo. Pasados 2 años en los que la fiesta pasó por sitios como el Rústic donde se realizó la primera fiesta o el Club de mi amigo Tallyn, en 2007 conocí a Marcos Torres y a Leyla ahora mi mujer y madre de mis dos niñas, con ellos dos formamos un gran equipo y empezamos a profesionalizar la marca. Entre 2008 y 2009 estuvimos haciendo las fiestas en el Somni donde el público era el protagonista ya que cada fiesta tenía una temática diferente de disfraces, esa época la recuerdo con mucho cariño porque nos lo pasábamos a lo grande disfrazándonos cada fiesta de algo distinto; Jack Sparrow, Prince, Elvis, Pete Doherty fueron algunos

de los personajes en los que me convertí! No nos quedaba sitio en casa para guardar los disfraces y tuvimos que alquilar un almacén. Ante esta locura desenfrenada de rock and roll en 2010 las grandes salas de la isla se empezaron a interesar por nosotros y pasamos un verano en el Ushuaia de la playa otro en Space, otro en Privilege y dos inviernos en Pacha. Todo esto no estaba en nuestros planes iniciales porque al principio los únicos deseos eran escuchar guitarra en lugar de house y hacer que el público fuera el protagonista. Fue increíble poder escuchar a Nirvana en la terraza de Space a los Hives en Pacha o Rebel Rebel de Bowie en la main de Privilege. En 2012 se incorporó al equipo Raven que se hizo cargo del nuevo enfoque de la imagen y Pedro Ubeda que nos ayudó con el proyecto de Rock Nights Tour que cada año visita unas 15 ciudades y quien actualmente es una pieza importante en el equipo.

En 2013 sufrimos una crisis porque veíamos que en las grandes salas perdíamos identidad de marca, pero fue entonces cuando Andy y Dawn de Ibiza Rocks que ya eran amigos desde hace tiempo nos propusieron hacer la fiesta todo los miércoles en el hotel Pikes después de los conciertos de Ibiza Rocks y desde entonces aquí estamos y no pensamos que haya otro lugar en el mundo mejor para Rock Nights! Cuál ha sido el mejor y el peor momento de Rock Nights? En mi opinión el peor fue en 2009 cuando durante más de un mes estuvimos a diario preparando la actuación del ex de Durán Duran Andy Taylor en Rock Nights y el mismo día de la fiesta un par de horas antes, cuando llegamos ya disfrazados de astronauta y Ziggy Stardust ya que la fiesta de aquella noche era futurista se tuvo que cancelar su concierto porque Andy sufrió un grave problema de salud, nos vinimos abajo porque estábamos muy ilusionados y además nos habíamos hecho buenos amigos, varias botellas de hierbas nos ayudaron a pasar el mal rato. El mejor es el momento de la fiesta del aniversario de cada año en el que mordemos

la tarta rodeados de amigos escuchando “Rock the Night” de Europe. Qué hace diferente de Rock Nights respecto al resto de las fiestas de Ibiza? Primero el tipo de música, vamos a contracorriente como dice mi amigo Soren de Nasty Mondays, Ibiza es la capital mundial de la música electrónica y nosotros ponemos rock! Ponemos la música que escuchamos desde que empezamos a salir en los 90. Segundo el enfoque, en Ibiza las fiestas centran su atención al dj, en los clubs grandes de la isla el público apunta con su móvil al dj y los posters promocionales muestran las caras de los grandes djs tratadas con photoshop. En nuestras fiestas, lo importante no es el dj sino la atmósfera, el público es el protagonista y disfruta no sólo de la música sino de todas las atracciones que ofrecemos como un Karaoke en el baño capitaneado por Sunny, un escenario para que el público se suba y haga de banda de rock, el crazy piano, un “sleeve faces corner”, o una zona de dardos.

Conoce a Colin Peters y Lola Von Dage, los djs residentes de Rock Nights Inteview by: Rosendo Morini

Colin Peters has been with Rock Nights since the beginning, when the party began in 2005. This summer, he will be joined by the new resident DJ, Lola Von Dage. This deadly duo will be joined by weekly guest DJs, providing the soundtrack for summer 2016 at Rock Nights. If you have been to Rock Nights in the incredible Pikes Hotel, then you will surely know their musical style. In this interview we will get to know them a bit more, about their musical careers and their expectations for this new Rock Nights season. Thanks first of all to you both for giving us this interview. No problem, thanks for interviewing us! Where was your DJ gig or performance in Ibiza? L: My first performance in Ibiza was doing a burlesque show at Manumission. As a DJ it was in Veto Social Club in 2014. C: In 1998, Vaughan from the legendary Rock Bar in Ibiza port invited me to DJ in the Funky Room in Pacha. He introduced me to Mike & Claire Manumission and I became resident DJ at Manumission for 9 years! I started DJing for Manumission in tWhe toilets of Privilege… How did you become involved in Rock Nights? L: Diego Calvo got in touch with me, at the time I was playing at Silvia Superstar´s parties in Madrid and she told him about me. When I moved to Ibiza, Diego invited me to DJ at Rock Nights. I´m delighted to be part of this great family. C: Diego and me were friends already, we met in Manumission and in 2005 he asked me if I wanted to play at his new party, Rock Nights, back when it was held in a bar. Colin, Diego always says that you met each other in the toilets of Privilege when you played for Manumission, what memories do you have of those times? C: Amazing memories, we were young kids having the best time of our lives! Manumission was such a fantastic party. I had ‘carte blanche’ to play whatever I wanted and I took full advantage of this. I mixed Nirvana with Shirley Bassey, Dolly Parton with Spandau Ballet and Voyage, Voyage with Knights of the Jaguar. Mental! And I did it all with vinyl. Good times were had. How’s this season at Rock Nights shaping up? L: It’s looking good! The party is an integral part of Ibiza and it has found its home in Pikes Hotel. People who haven’t been ask me about it and those who have been tell me that it is the best party in Ibiza. I totally understand this, the atmosphere that is created by the crowd is magic. C: Onwards and upwards, Pikes is THE place for Rock Nights, we have found our home. I have the same feeling playing there than when I played in Manumission, always looking forward to a great night out.

L: For me, Rock Nights and Pikes are the perfect marriage! We DJ in the room where Freddie Mercury stayed, I think that says everything! C: NO! What Rock Nights Tour dates have you played at? L: In the San Miguel Winter Break, Mallorca and some other dates this summer. C: Almost all of the dates from Gossip in Villarreal, Ochoymedio in Madrid, San Miguel Winter Break, Obbio / Holiday Cllub in Seville, Ibiza Reunion in Butlins, England, Sala REM in Murcia. It has been a great winter! What do you think of the rock & roll scene in Ibiza? L: It’s a pleasant surprise to have found so many rockers on an island renowned for electronic music. A positive feature is that there are lots of bars that feature rock in the winter as well as in the summer. And that is without mentioning Ibiza Rocks and the upcoming acoustic concerts at Santos Dorado! C: I´m so happy that there is a flourishing alternative scene in Ibiza. Ibiza is world famous for electronic music but there is also rom for rock ‘n’ roll, alternative, indie etc. Ibiza Rocks, Rock Nights and Santos Dorado show that there are also great parties that don’t focus on the electronic beat. Lola, you spent a good couple of years in Berlin? What were you up to there? L: I was lucky to work in the Berlin´s temple of rock, White Trash. Another great family where I practically did everything… DJ, Burlesque performance, Master of Ceremonies and manager of all the artists that appeared on stage at White Trash. Are you still tied to Berlin? L: Yes! As well as the sentimental ties that I have with all the marvellous people I met there, I am now representing in Spain an emerging band on the Berlin scene called Technicolour Shake. They are doing very well and I want to spread the word about them here. Are you thinking of staying here permanently? L: Yes of course, Ibiza is my home Colin, how many years have you been coming to Ibiza? C: This year (2016) is going to be my 18th summer, I’m a battle hardened veteran! I have also done 3 winters in Ibiza. It’s an island that has given me a lot. Do you miss living in Ibiza? C: Yes I do but I am lucky to have the opportunity to come back each summer to live, play and enjoy. How’s it going in your new city, Madrid? C: It’s really cool, Madrid is an exciting and vibrant city. I want to thank Silvia Superstar & Edu Por Las Noches from El Fabuloso Club, Ochoymedio and Gaskon in El Sotano for letting play in their clubs in Madrid.

What would you like to say to the readers who haven’t been to one of our parties yet? L: Come and check us out! Getting lost beneath the stars in a place such as Pikes, feeling free and listening to great rock & roll. Now we know what all the stars where looking for when they came to Pikes. C: Forget about these superclubs and discover something reminiscent of the old Ibiza. Crazy people, fun and fab music. Thanks once again! See you this summer at Rock Nights in Pikes Hotel!! Colin Peters, que lleva con nosotros desde el comienzo de esta andadura, que ya va por 11 años y que se ha convertido en el mejor matrimonio musical que existe y Lola Von Dage, que ha sido elegida como pareja de Colin como dj residente, son los artistas encargados de poner la banda sonora (junto a otros artistas invitados) de la emocionante temporada 2016 que ya se nos viene encima. Si ya has podido disfrutar anteriormente de una Rock Nights en el increíble Hotel Pikes seguramente conozcas bien su faceta musical. En esta entrevista vamos a intentar que los conozcas un poco mas, que nos hablen de su carrera musical y como afrontan esta nueva temporada en Rock Nights Ibiza en el Pikes. Primero daros las gracias a los dos de parte de nuestros lectores por concedernos esta entrevista! De nada, encantado a hablar con Rock Nights News! Cual fue vuestra primera actuación en Ibiza? L: Mi primera actuación en Ibiza fue con un espectáculo burlesque en Manumission, como dj fue en Veto Social Club en 2014. C: Fue en el año 1998. Empecé pinchando en el Funky Room de Pacha a través de Vaughan del mitico Rock Bar en el puerto de Ibiza y luego en Manumission en los baños de Privilege… Y vuestro primer contacto con Rock Nights? L: Diego Calvo contactó conmigo, por aquel entonces yo pinchaba en las fiestas de Silvia Súperstar en Madrid y fue ella quien le habló de mi. En cuanto me instalé en Ibiza Diego me propuso pinchar en una Rock Nights. Estoy encantada de que lo hiciese y de formar parte de esta gran familia. C: Ya conocía Diego de cuando estuvimos trabajando en Manumission, en 2005 me preguntó si quería pinchar en su fiesta Rock Nights cuando estábamos en un bar en Ibiza. Colin, Diego siempre cuenta que os conocisteis en los baños de Privilege mientras pinchabas en una de las fiestas Manumission, como recuerdas aquella época? C- Muy divertida, éramos unos chavales! Tenía carta libre para pinchar lo que quería en Manumission, pinchando Nirvana con Shirley Bassey, Dolly Parton con Spandau Ballet, Voyage Voyage con Knights of the Jaguar. Y lo hacia todo con vinilo. Que tiempos aquellos! Que impresiones tenéis de cara a esta nueva temporada de Rock Nights en el increíble Hotel Pikes? L: Muy buenas!! La fiesta está muy integrada en Ibiza y en el Hotel Pikes. Gente que todavía no la ha visitado me pregunta por ella y los que han estado dicen que es donde mejor se lo pasan y para muchos es la mejor fiesta de Ibiza, y lo entiendo la verdad. El ambiente que se crea con nuestro público es mágico. C: Suma y sigue, Pikes es el sitio perfecto para Rock Nights, hemos encontrado nuestra casa. Me siento como cuando tuve que hacer mis veranos en Manumission, con muchas ganas e ilusión. Creéis que hay algún lugar mejor en Ibiza que el Hotel Pikes como hogar de Rock Nights? L: Pues no estuve en las anteriores ediciones, pero para mi, Rock Nights y el Pikes son el matrimonio perfecto. Ya me gustaría tener uno así de compenetrado! Jaja. Pinchamos en la habitación donde se alojó Freddie Mercury, con eso te lo digo todo!! C: NO! En que fechas del Tour de Rock Nights habéis participado? L: Pues he estado en el San Miguel Winter Break, Mallorca y en par más de fechas este verano. C: En casi todos este invierno, desde Gossip en Villarreal, Ochoymedio en Madrid, San Miguel Winter Break, Obbio y Holiday Club en Sevilla, Ibiza Reunion en Butlins, Inglaterra, Sala REM en Murcia. Ha sido un invierno / primavera genial. Que opináis de la escena Rock&Roll en Ibiza? L: Pues me sorprende gratamente encontrarme tanto rockero en la isla de la música electrónica, hay muchos bares que apuestan por el rock tanto en invierno como en verano y eso es muy positivo. Y si a todo esto le sumamos los conciertos de Ibiza Rocks y los acústicos del Hotel Santos Dorado pues ya todo perfecto! C: Me alegro tanto de que haya gente que no sigue a la mayoría en Ibiza, gente diferente, gente alternativa. Ibiza es muy conocida por su lado mas electrónico pero también existe la escena de rock & roll, alternativa, indie… Y desde Ibiza Rocks hasta Rock Nights y Santos Dorado se puede decir que también hay fiestas y diversión para la gente que no sigue el bombo. Lola sabemos que pasaste una buena temporada de tu vida en Berlin, que hacias allí? L: Tuve la suerte de trabajar en el templo rockero berlinés, White Trash. Otra gran familia en la que hice prácticamente de todo. Dj, espectáculos burlesque, maestra de ceremonias y encargada de los artistas que cada día pasaban por el escenario del White Trash. Que lazos te siguen uniendo a Berlin? L: Además de los lazos sentimentales que me unen con la maravillosa gente que he conocido allí, también he comenzado a ser la representante en España de una banda emergente en la escena berlinesa, Technicolour Shake. Están pisando fuerte y los quiero dar a conocer aquí. Tienes pensado quedarte definitivamente en Ibiza? L: Por supuesto, Ibiza es mi casa. Colin cuantos años has estado viviendo en Ibiza? C: Pues este año (2016) va a ser mi undécimo octavo verano en Ibiza. Soy todo un veterano! También he vivido 3 inviernos aquí. Es una isla que me ha dado mucho. Echas de menos vivir en Ibiza? C: Si, pero tengo la suerte de poder volver cada verano para vivir, pinchar y disfrutar. Que tal tu experiencia en tu nueva ciudad Madrid? C: Muy guay, me gustan las ciudades grandes. Madrid es chula, es una cuidad muy vibrante. Quiero dar las gracias a Silvia Superstar y Edu Por Las Noches de El Fabuloso, a Ochoymedio Club y Gaskon de El Sotano por dejarme sus clubs para expresarme musicalmente hablando. Colin llevas desde los años 90 paseando tus discos por todas las salas y fiestas de Ibiza, echas de menos aquellos años? C: Si, los echo de menos pero también creo que es importante mirar adelante y es importante mirar hacia delante y seguir renovándose como persona y musicalmente.. Que les diríais a nuestros lectores que todavía no hayan pasado por una de nuestras fiestas en el Hotel Pikes para que vayan a conocernos? L: Pues que se animen a vivir esta experiencia junto a nosotros! Perderse bajo la estrellas en un lugar como el Pikes y a ritmo de Rock&Roll y sentirse libre.. Son varios ya los años que Rock Nights y todo su equipo cogen las maletas y se marchan de tour. Muchos clubs quieren ofrecer a sus fieles una fiesta por todo lo alto, buena música y locura desenfrenada y Rock Nights lo es.

While Ibiza hibernates during the winter, Rock Nights goes out on tour, visiting Spanish and European cities each year. There are many clubs that want to offer their crowd the Rock Nights experience, full of fantastic frivolity and fabulous music.

Este año no ha sido menos y Rock Nights se ha dado una gran vuelta por un buen puñado de ciudades llevando a cada lugar la energía de sus fiestones. Son mas de 15 ciudades las que ha visitado. Londres, Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Mallorca, Andorra o Valencia son algunas de las muchas ciudades que han disfrutado del paso de Rocks Nights y se espera que el año que viene sean muchas más.

This winter has seen the Rock Nights Tour go from strength to strength with visits to more than 15 cities including: Zigfrid von Underbelly in London, Ibiza Legends Festival in West Sussex, England, Ochoymedio in Madrid, La3 in Valencia, Obbio Club in Seville, La RED in Mallorca, San Miguel Winter Break in Andorra and Sala REM in Murcia. All these places and more have seen Rock Nights blow the roof off of their clubs during the winter and spring months. It has been a phenomenal tour and the upcoming winter will see more of the same.

Eleven years have passed since this brand took a punt on alternative sounds and live music in Ibiza. A different musical style to what had, until then, been unfolding on the island. House music and techno, was the music that dominated the dancefloors in Ibiza each summer. The founders of Ibiza Rocks, decided to strike a blow against this domination and offer something different. Ibiza Rocks was born in 2005, from the promoters that brought us one of the most successful parties of all time in Ibiza, Manumission. Privilege was the home of Manumission at the time and it also saw the start of Ibiza Rocks, which was held in the La Vaca Room of the same club before moving to Ibiza Rocks Bar (The Old Bar M in San Antonio). Created exclusively to bring something that was missing in Ibiza (rock and live music) The Ibiza Rocks Hotel opened in 2008, which was another giant step towards being the huge brand that it is today. The idea was magnificent: a hotel that offered guests rock concerts and live music in general as part of their reservation. Artists that have graced the Ibiza Rocks stage include Chic, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Maximo Park, Kasabian, Editors, Madness, Foals, Fatboy Slim, The Kooks, New Order, Jake Bugg and Pendulum. For the 2016 season, Ibiza Rocks has put together a breathtaking line-up. Each Wednesday from the 15th June until the 14th September: Major Lazer, LCD Soundsystem, Faithless, Kaiser Chiefs, Tinie Tempah, Wolf Alice & Jess Glynne, among many others, will be live on stage. The home of live Music in Ibiza Once años han pasado desde que esta marca apostase por otros sonidos y la música en vivo en Ibiza. Un estilo musical diferente a lo que se venía desarrollando hasta entonces en la isla. La música house y techno, de la mano de los muchos djs que aterrizaban en Ibiza cada verano, era lo que se bailaba en las pistas de todas las grandes salas ibicencas. Los fundadores de Ibiza Rocks, decidieron dar un golpe en la mesa y ofrecer un producto diferente. Ibiza Rocks nació en 2005 de la mano de los promotores de una de las fiestas con más éxito de las han pasado por Ibiza y no es otra que Manumission. Privilege era la casa de Manumission por aquella época y sirvió también para darle el pistoletazo de salida a Ibiza Rocks, que se celebraba en la sala 2 de la fiesta y que poco después se trasladaría al Ibiza Rocks Bar (antiguo Bar M en San Antonio). Creada exclusivamente para llevar algo que faltaba en Ibiza: el rock y la música en directo, rápidamente la prensa española y británica se hizo eco de lo que estaba ocurriendo en Ibiza con Ibiza Rocks y la marca fue

subiendo como la espuma con el objetivo cumplido de ser los encargados de traer algo diferente y fresco a la isla de Ibiza. Ha llovido mucho desde que en 1996 se diese la primera gran cita en nuestro país con la música independiente. El Doctor Music Festival fue el padre de los grandes eventos musicales en España. Con un cartel de 70 bandas y más de 25.000 abonos vendidos, logró introducir la cultura festivalera que tantos años llevaba de moda en países como Inglaterra y Estados Unidos.

A lot has happened since 1996, when the first, large, independent music event took place in Spain. The Doctor Music Festival in 1996 is considered the pioneer of Spanish festivals. It had a line up of 70 bands and sold more than 25,000 tickets. It was such a success that it managed to create the festival scene in Spain, a scene that was already very popular in countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States.

Rápidamente llegarían festivales de la talla del F.I.B(Festival Internacional de Benicasim), FestiMad, Primavera Sound etc.. que mejoraron la formula y se convirtieron en referencia para todos los amantes de la música en vivo y el buen ambiente que se vive en este tipo de eventos al aire libre.

New festivals were soon created such as FIB (Festival International of Benicassim), FestiMad, Primavera Sound etc, etc. These festivals improved on the original template and became a reference for all live music lovers.

Primavera Sound (Parc del Fórum, Barcelona) From 1st to 5th June. Sin duda alguna el Primavera Sound se ha convertido en uno de los festivales más importantes del mundo, desde sus comienzos en el Poble Español hasta la actualidad la popularidad ha ido creciendo hasta el punto de que ya lleva varios años colgando el cartel de Sold Out en un recinto tan grande como es el Park del Forum. Y es que cada año so mas de 40.000 persona las que acuden a ver sus bandas favoritas. Esto no significa que uno vaya a estar como en una lata de sardinas, el recinto es tan grande que no hay problemas para moverse de un escenario a otro. Aunque los abonos ya están agotados el precio ha ido entre los 125€ desde que salieron los primeros ta la venta hasta los 195€. Sin duda cita obligatoria para todos los amantes de la música. There’s no doubt that Primavera Sound has become one of the most important music festivals in the world. It started out in Poble Español and became so popular that it had to move the massive space that is Parc del Fórum, where they still have to put up the SOLD OUT sign year after year. More than 40,000 people come to Primavera Sound each year to see their favourite bands.

F.I.B (International Festival of Benicassim, Castellon) From 14th to 17th July. Cuando hablamos del F.I.B hablamos del festival con más solera y tradición de los que se vienen celebrando en nuestro país. Con mas de 20 años a sus espaldas el FIB no ha dejado de ofrecer a sus fieles cada verano los mejores line up. A pesar de todos los cambios que ha sufrido el festival a nivel administrativo y de dirección sigue atrayendo a miles de jóvenes y no tan jóvenes de todo el mundo que llegan para disfrutar de la buena música en directo, las bonitas playas de la zona y de la rica gastronomía mediterránea. Los precios de los abonos y entradas para el festival rondan los 150e para los 4 días. F.I.B is one of the oldest festivals in Spain, delivering 20 years of stunning line-ups . Despite all the changes that the festival has gone through, it continues to attract thousands of young and not so young people from around the world who want to enjoy live music, beautiful beaches and Mediterranean cuisine. Ticket prices are around 150 euros for the full festival.

BBK LIVE (Mount Kobetamendi, Bilbao, Pais Vasco) From 7 to 9 July. El BBK LIVE va a por su onceava edición, uno de los festivales de la nueva hornada que crece como la espuma año tras año gracias a sus impresionantes carteles y parece no tener techo. El clima, la gastronomía, el precio de sus abonos que no supera los 120€ y por supuesto el súper cartel que ha preparado para esta edición hacen de este festival uno de los más atractivos de los que se celebrarán este verano en España. Arcade Fire, New Order, M83, Pixies, Underworld, Foals, Tame Impala, Editors, Love Of Lesbian o Hot Chip son algunas de las súper bandas que deleitaran a todos los que tengan la suerte de poder acercarse al BBK LIVE 2016. BBK LIVE celebrates its eleventh edition this year. There are amazing line-ups each year and this year is no exception. Add in great weather, wonderful food and reasonable ticket prices and you have the makings of one the best festivals in Spain this summer. Mad Cool Fest (Caja Magica, Madrid) From 16th to 18th June El festival más joven de los que os hemos presentado ya que esta es su primera edición. Desde el FestiMad y el DCode Festival no se había presentado en Madrid otro gran festival y ha sido Mad Cool Fest el que ha dado un paso al frente reuniendo a un elenco de bandas de primer orden como son Neil Young, The Who, The Prodigy, Two Door Cinema Club, Vetusta Morla, Die Antwoord, Editors, Garbage, Caribou o Capital Cities.. Poca broma para ser su primer año y desde Rock Nights News les deseamos que sean muchos más. SONORAMA (Aranda de Duero, Burgos) From 11th to 14th August. Sin duda alguna el Sonorama es el festival de música indie que más cuenta con el producto nacional ya que cada año son nuestras bandas las que copan su apuesta musical. Y es que su cartel no se basa únicamente en los grades nombres de este país si no que apuesta por una gran cantidad de bandas emergentes que ven en este festival como una de sus oportunidades para darse a conocer en esta difícil industria que es la música española. En esta edición el Sonorama contará también con artistas internacionales de relumbrón como son Mando Diao, The Hives o Kula Shaker. También estarán en el Sonorama Love of Lesbian, Izal, Leon Benavente, Second y un montón más de bandas nacionales que harán de Aranda de Duero la capital del Indie español durante los días que dura el festival. El precio del Sonorama Ribera es de los más económicos ya que su precio es de 55€ e incluye zona de acampada. Sonorama is a music festival with a focus on Spanish indie bands. by Marcos Torres Sin olvidarnos por un rato de que lo verdaderamente grande es aquello que no se puede medir y lo realmente importante es aquello que no se puede describir con palabras, escribir sobre él resultaría tarea complicada. Hay que alejarse hasta alcanzar la perspectiva suficiente, que en este caso requiere salir de la órbita terrestre, y volver la vista abajo para calcular la envergadura artística del personaje a la vista de la profunda huella dejada en la corteza terrestre por el impacto de David Bowie, el hombre que cayó a la tierra. Sus efectos e influencia fueron comparables a un terremoto, sacudiendo por igual al mundo de la música, la moda y las artes en general, y que cesó inesperadamente la madrugada del pasado 10 de enero. Su marcha se sintió como inesperada y prematura porque es la única forma de sentir la muerte de aquello que crees inmortal. Ese ser de aspecto extraterrestre y talento estratosférico no podía ser humano, evidentemente se trataba de una entidad eterna. Él mismo se encargó de convencernos de ello: A los de su planeta parecía no causarles efecto alguno el paso de las décadas, ni las drogas y el alcohol en cantidades astronómicas. Ni las giras interminables, los días y noches de sexo desenfrenado, y los años de locura absoluta. Nada podía con esa sonrisa perfecta y astuta, ni con esa invulnerable mata de pelo rubio que se gastó hasta el último segundo. Tampoco con su prodigiosa capacidad creativa, su voracidad artística o su total ausencia de miedo a arriesgar. Durante todo el tiempo que pasó en la Tierra, nada de lo que veíamos sugería que David Bowie fuese de este planeta, ni ayudaba a corregir nuestra percepción de que, como buen mito, iba a estar siempre ahí. Por dios, si ni siquiera era capaz de salir mal en una foto. Jamás. Algunas veces se mostraba salvaje, otras sofisticado, pero fuese cual fuese la versión de sí mismo que nos ofrecía, siempre aparecía insultantemente soberbio. Si había alguien en este planeta capaz de rebosar elegancia en cualquier situación, ese era él: El hombre que vendió el mundo, Ziggy Stardust, el Mayor Tom, Aladdin Sane, el Duque Blanco o la estrella negra. Nadie ha sido tantas cosas, ni ha ido regalando semejante colección de imágenes icónicas a su paso. Todos los que lo han intentado saben que no era posible ser como David, ni resultaba sencillo seguir su paso. Aún siendo un fiel devoto, un “Bowie Kid” de los 70 en toda regla, podías salir a la calle con un mono dorado, pelo rojo fuego, cejas rasuradas y botas de plataforma como los que lucía el nuevo mesías del Rock y encontrarte con que éste había mudado de piel y ya andaba enfundado en trajes de gangster y luciendo sombreros de ala ancha. Cuando tú ibas, él ya volvía. Después llegarían los trajes de soulboy de colores imposibles, el icónico pierrot de “Ashes to Ashes” diseñado por Natasha Korniloff, el no menos icónico Goblin King para el “Labyrinth” de Jim Henson, el abrigo con la Union Jack que le diseñó Alexander McQueen para la época de “Earthling”, y así, década tras década hasta despedirse por todo lo alto con el impactante “Lazarus”, el personaje con el que se despidió. Más que suficiente como para que el Victoria and

Albert Hall le dedicase una exposición en la que se exhiben sus icónicas indumentarias como las obras de arte que son. Oscar Wilde dijo una vez “He puesto todo mi genio en mi vida, y en mis obras sólo he puesto mi talento”. La afirmación le venía como un guante a David, para el que nunca hubo frontera que respetar, y cuyo talento desbordante iba mucho más allá que componer y actuar. Antes de abrir la boca para cantar, ya hacía gala de un magnetismo único, que se multiplicaba cuanto pisaba un escenario, gracias a una habilidad escénica apabullante. Tenía la capacidad, además, de transformar todo aquello que hacía en algo memorable e icónico. Miles de adolescentes en shock ante la visión de aquel escuálido personaje travestido de extraterrestre tardaron mucho en olvidar aquella primera vez que le vieron en televisión. Complicado también olvidarte de él en el vídeo de “Ashes to ashes” que dirigió David Mallet, o bailando sobre el escenario en el nightclub de “Blue Jean”, o los primeros planos de sus ojos y su traje azul de “Life on mars”. Esa capacidad de quedarse grabado en la retina del espectador la conservó hasta su monumental y conmovedora despedida. Rock Nights tuvo en sus inicios a David Bowie como principal inspiración, haciendo bandera de su espíritu transgresor y capacidad camaleónica en aquellas míticas fiestas temáticas en las que, tomándole la palabra, podías ser héroe por una noche. Tomamos, de hecho, el “We can be heroes” como consigna, y el rayo en la cara como pintura de guerra. Rock and Roll, maquillaje, disfraces, arte, imaginación desatada, y suficientes dosis de locura como para haber hecho sentir bien orgulloso a nuestro mentor. Pensé en todo ello cuando, el pasado 9 de Abril, Ibiza le rindió su espectacular tributo, capitaneado por Lost Angeles, y seguido por una entregadísima docena de bandas y DJs de la isla, y al que cientos de personas acudieron a despedirse de David de la mejor forma posible: Con guitarras, música a todo volumen, rayos pintados en la cara, y voces de todas las edades coreando sus canciones y bailando hasta la medianoche. Aunque el nombre del evento era, muy acertadamente, “we can be heroes”, la frase que me vino a la cabeza al final, ya con las luces apagadas y terminada la música fue otra: “…The stars look very different today”.… La culpa la tienen, por una parte, el grupo de astrónomos belgas que bautizaron recientemente una constelación de siete estrellas agrupadas en forma de rayo en honor a nuestro Starman, y por otra parte el propio David, que en su último vídeo, con los ojos vendados y elevándose sobre una cama de hospital, se despedía con un “mira arriba, estoy en el cielo”. “De vuelta al espacio”, pensaremos muchos.

The Man Who Sold The World, Ziggy Stardust, Major Tom, Aladdin Sane, The Thin White Duke or Blackstar. Nobody has been so many things and given us such a collection of iconic images in their lifetime. All those who tried to be like David know that it was impossible to be like him. . It was not easy to follow his style. Imagine being a devoted Bowie Kid in the 70’s, with a golden jumpsuit, fiery red hair, shaved eyebrows and platform boots like those sported by this new rock messiah, only to find out that he had already changed to wearing gangster suits and wide-brimmed hats. If you had gone, he would have returned already. Imagine keeping up with the impossibly coloured soulboy suits, Natasha Korniloff’s iconic Pierrot that he wore in the Ashes to Ashes video, or as the equally iconic Goblin King for Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. Imagine trying to get your hands on the Union Jack coat designed by Alexander McQueen for his Earthling era. And so on and so forth, decade after decade, until bidding farewell in style with the stunning Lazarus, the character with which he said goodbye. More than enough for the Victoria and Albert museum to dedicate a touring exhibition in which his costumes, photography and artwork are exhibited as the works of art they are. Oscar Wilde once said, “I put all my genius into my life; I put only my talent into my works.” This statement fit like a glove for David because he pushed boundaries and his boundless talent went far beyond composing and performing. Even before he started to sing he already displayed a unique magnetism, which multiplied as trod the boards, thanks to his stunning stage presence. He had the ability to transform all this into something memorable and quintessential. Thousands of teenagers, in shock at the sight of that scrawny alien transvestite, took a long time to forget the first time they saw him on television. It was also difficult to forget the Ashes to Ashes video directed by David Mallet, or when he danced on stage at the Blue Jean nightclub, or the close-ups of his eyes and blue suit in Life on Mars. That ability to remain engraved in the mind´s eye held until his monumental and moving farewell. What really matters is that which cannot be described with words, that which cannot be written about. We need to move away until we can see things in their true perspective, which in David Bowie’s case means leaving Earth’s orbit and looking back down to calculate the artistic scale and deep imprint left in the Earth’s crust by the impact of the man who fell to earth. His influence was comparable to an earthquake, shaking alike the world of music, fashion and the arts in general and it ceased, unexpectedly, at dawn on the 10th January. His departure was unexpected and premature because this is the only way to feel the death of those you think are immortal. An alien so talented, there was no way he was human. He was obviously an eternal entity. He took it upon himself to convince us of this. The people on his planet didn’t seem to be affected by the passing of the decades nor by astronomic quantities of drugs and alcohol. Nor by the endless tours, days and nights of wild sex, and years of absolute madness. Nothing could compete with that perfect, cunning smile, or that invulnerable mop of blond hair. There was no equal to his prodigious creative capacity, his artistic voracity or his total lack of fear. Throughout his time on Earth, nothing we saw suggested that David Bowie was of this planet. My goodness! It was impossible to take a bad photograph of him. . Sometimes he showed his wild side, other times his sophistication, but whatever version he showed us, he always appeared outrageously magnificent. If anyone on this planet was capable of overflowing elegance in any situation, he was that person:

When Rock Nights began, David Bowie was its main inspiration. His nonconforming spirit and chameleonic ability became the party´s identity. In those mythical theme parties we took him by his word and we converted “We Could Be Heroes” into our slogan with the Ziggy Stardust flash as our war paint. Rock ‘n’ Roll, makeup, costumes, art, imagination unleashed and a sufficient dose of madness to make our mentor feel proud. I thought of all this when, on the 9th April, Ibiza paid him a spectacular tribute, captained by Lost Angeles along with a dozen incredibly enthusiastic bands and local DJs. Hundreds of people came to say goodbye to David in the best possible way; with guitars, music blaring, face flashes and a multi-aged chorus of voices, singing his songs and dancing until midnight. Although the name of the event was, quite rightly, “We Can Be Heroes”, the phrase that popped into my head at the end, with the lights off in a silent room was - “The Stars Look Very Different Today.” A group of Belgian astronomers are partly to blame for this because they have honoured our Starman with a constellation of seven stars grouped together in the shape of a lightning bolt. I also blame David himself, who in his last video, blindfolded and rising up from a hospital bed, said goodbye with “Look Up, I’m In Heaven.” Many will think “Return To Space”.

Nace Dorado Live Shows en el Complejo Santos Ibiza (Santos y Santos Dorado) de Concept Hotel Group, un evento que reunirá durante ocho jueves a lo largo del verano conciertos de grandes artistas en formato acústico. NIGHTS Desde que el Rock&Roll aterrizase en España allá por los años 50 y decidiera quedarse entre nosotros, han sido muchas las generaciones las que han ligado su vida y han jurado amor eterno a la cultura Rock hasta nuestros días. Son muchas las fiestas, bares y clubs en los que se puede bailar Rock hasta casi el amanecer en nuestro país y os vamos a hablar de algunas de las mejores fiestas que se reparten por toda la geografía nacional.

Rock ‘n’ Roll landed in Spain way back in the 1950s and enjoyed themselves so much that they decided to stay here. There have been many generations that have sworn their undying love to rock ‘n’ roll since then. There are many parties, bars and clubs where you can dance to guitars from dusk till dawn in Spain, and we’re gonna give you the lowdown on some of the best parties from around the country.

NASTY MONDAYS Nasty Garage (Barcelona) Nasty Garage es una marca creada por Soren, Max (cabezas visibles del proyecto) y Ximo, que se encarga de que todo vaya a la perfección y que aglutina varias fiestas top en Barcelona, todas ellas en la sala Apolo (Nou de la Rambla 113), su agencia de booking y creación de eventos, su museo de objetos vintage y la Nasty Store (donde se puede comprar ropa y merchandising de sus fiestas). Todo comenzó en 2005 con la fiesta Nasty Mondays, fiesta de Rock&Roll puro y duro y con Soren y Max (dos tipos con maneras de estrellas del rock y unos showmans de los pies a la cabeza) como djs residentes y promotores, fue el primer “hijo” de un largo etc de proyectos que han ido dando forma a lo que hoy es Nasty Garage. Las fiestas que Nasty Garage está realizando ahora mismo son: Nasty Mondays (lunes por la noche), Nasty Bass (también los lunes por la noche en la sala 2 de Apolo y creada para ofrecer un producto mas electrónico a los amantes del Bass Music), Crappy Tuesdays (martes) o Cupcake y Stash (jueves) obteniendo con todas ellas un éxito increíble en Barcelona. También es de sobra conocida la afición que tienen los chicos por todo lo antiguo y la moda vintage americana, pasión que derivó en un espacio único, situado en Poble Nou y donde se pueden apreciar todo tipo de objetos (tablas de surf, de skate, maquinas de pinball, televisiones, juguetes antiguos, lambrettas, vespas etc) y que hacen las delicias de todos los amantes de lo vintage que pasan a visitar Nasty Garage . En ese mismo espacio se encuentran sus oficinas y es ahí desde donde se gestiona y se le da forma a todo lo que ocurre en Nasty Garage. Su fiesta más potente es la que lleva llenando salas de la ciudad condal cada lunes por la noche hasta acabar en su lugar perfecto, la sala Apolo. Y es que en Nasty Mondays, Soren, Max no te dejarán parar de bailar ni un segundo mientras suenan los hits más potentes de la historia del rock. Si estás por Barcelona, te gustan el rock y las fiestas locas no dudes en darte una vuelta por la sala Apolo los lunes por la noche. A continuación nos cuentan como empezó su pasión por la cultura rock y como surgió la idea de crear algo tan potente como es Nasty Mondays. (entrevista) 1. Como y cuando comenzó vuestro amor por el Rock? Soren: Forma parte de nuestra trayectoria desde niño a adulto, siempre ha estado presente. Siempre quise ser el rebelde rompe bragas de la clase y enseñarles a los de mi curso que mis camisetas y gustos musicales no eran para ellos. Crecí bajo la influencia de mi hermano y mi primo que tenían un grupo de Heavy Metal . Toda la movida del Glam / Pop Metal de la escena de L.A, Sunset Strip BLvd ( Rainbow Grill, Whisky a Go GO ) me la comí con patatas y me fascina, no lo puedo evitar hasta día de hoy. Y como no ,el US Festival del 83 en Costa Mesa… Eso será irrepetible. Cada uno de nosotros interpreta el rock’n roll a su manera y todos tenemos una parte rockera dentro. Nasty Mondays fue la manera para nosotros interpretar nuestro Sunset Strip en las Ramblas de Barcelona hahahhaa. Max: Mi amor por el rock viene de pequeño, ya que vengo de Argentina y Argentina es un país de rock. Tengo una hermana 3 años mayor que al escuchar ella la radio yo de rebote ya prestaba atención y me molaba.

2. Cual fue vuestro primer disco? S: Deep Purple, Perfect Strangers M: A ver, mi primer cassette, jajaja. No, mi primer disco fue uno de los Ramones. En esa época, en Buenos Aires, había una galería donde se encontraba toda la movida underground, tiendas de skates, de música. En esa época, tu ibas a la tienda y elegías que disco te gustaba y el tío te lo grababa en un cassette con su portada en fotocopia blanco y negro, que buena época. Por cierto, época en la que realmente era un currazo acceder a la información de lo que te molaba, lo que te hacia disfrutar mucho más y sentirte mucho más identificado y defendiendo tu bandera a muerte, en mi caso skate punk. 3. Que bandas fueron las primeras que empezasteis a escuchar? S: Motley Crüe, Dio, AC/DC, Maiden, Poison y mucho mucho Judas Priest… M: Mis primeras bandas de rock que me enamoraron al escuchar en la radio y me hicieron poner los pelos de punta fueron The Clash y Ramones, cuando tenia alrededor de 10 años. 4. Como os conocisteis? M: Nos conocimos en Barcelona, Soren llevaba una tienda de skate donde yo iba a buscar las Vans old school que acá nadie mas traía, no estaban de moda como hoy en día, jaja 5. Como fue la idea de montar Nasty Mondays? S: Por casualidad, por una tercera persona que ya no está con nosotros…el cáncer injustamente nos lo quitó. R.I.P Hueso. 6. Os imaginabais el éxito que ibais a tener? M: Jamás hicimos esto ni por pasta ni por éxito, el problema que tienen todos los fakes que vinieron después de nosotros ;) Esto empezó como una aventura para divertirnos que se convirtió en lo que es hoy, pero siempre digo que estas cosas no se buscan, salen con ganas y cuando lo haces para querer ser famosito o cool, así te irá! S: Nunca la verdad.. Estoy sorprendido hasta día de hoy. Siempre lo he dicho, el Rockn’roll es como la pizza, nunca pasa de moda y nunca morirá así que me quedo tranquilo. 7. De donde viene esa pasión por coleccionar objetos vintage? S: Siempre he sido un poco diógenes (coleccionaba latas que recogía en los campings de pequeño) Desde niño he coleccionado, de hecho tengo demasiadas colecciones paralelas, supongo que lo hago por añoranza y nostalgia del pasado. O quizás porque les encuentro a todos esos objetos una parte romántica o una parte de admiración que la gente no sabe ver y llegar a apreciar. Un ejemplo fácil, las máquinas pinball, tengo 12, son una máxima expresión de arte e ilustración en el tablero de juego con millones de detalles trabajados, sonidos y luces. M: Yo desde muy joven curré siempre en tiendas de ropa vintage y siempre fue mi pasión, sobre todo la ropa, pero también skates y alguna otra cosita. Es el amor por las cosas con las que crecimos y nos representan todavía en estos días. 8. Que se os viene a la cabeza si pensáis en once años más de Nasty Mondays? S: Excesos, suecas, perdidas de avión, novias y relaciones a tomar por culo, éxito, haters que al final se hacen fans… M: Ehhhh, se me viene a la cabeza q me quedaré sin neuronas, jajajajaj

Nasty Garage is a brand created by Soren, Max (the visible parts of the project) and Ximo, who ensures that everything runs perfectly in Nasty Mondays as well as a host of other top parties, all of which take place in Sala Apolo, Barcelona (Nou de la Rambla 113). Nasty Garage is the umbrella organisation for various other projects including: a booking agency, event organisation, vintage object museum and Nasty Store (where you can buy clothes and merchandising related to the parties). It all started in 2005 with a fiery, filthy rock ‘n’ roll party called Nasty Mondays, with Max and Soren as resident DJs, promoters, showmen & hosts. This was the first on a long list of projects that have shaped what is now Nasty Garage. The list of Nasty Garage’s parties are as follows: Nasty Mondays (Monday night), Nasty Bass (Room 2 in Apolo, Monday night created to provide a more electronic sound for lovers of bass music), Crappy Tuesdays (Tuesday night) Cupcake and Stash (Thursday night), all of which are kicking ass each week in Barcelona. The Nasty Garage guys are well known for their passion for retro objects and American vintage fashion, which they keep on display in a unique space, located in Poble Nou. Here you can see all kinds of objects (surfboards, skateboards, pinball machines, TVs, antique toys, Lambrettas, Vespas, etc), making a visit to Nasty Garage a must for all vintage lovers. Their HQ is also based here, serving as the nerve centre to manage and shape all things Nasty. Its biggest party filled Barcelona’s clubs every Monday night before arriving at the perfect place, Sala Apolo. In Nasty Mondays, Max & Soren won’t give anyone a breather, their wild sets, full of rock ´n´ roll history, drive the crowd crazy. Next up we’ve got an interview with Max & Soren, where they will let us in on how their passion for rock culture started and how they created something as titanic as Nasty Mondays. 1. How and when did your love of rock start? Soren: Rock has been a part of our lives from when we were little until today, it´s always present. I wanted to be the rebel pantybreaker at school and teach the other students in my class that my t-shirts and musical tastes were not for them. I grew up under the influence of my brother and my cousin who had a heavy metal band. I love the whole glam / pop metal scene in Los Angeles, Sunset Strip Blvd (Rainbow Grill, Whisky a Go Go), I ate it all up, it fascinates me, even now. And of course, the US Festival 83 in Costa Mesa ... something like that will never be repeated. Each of us interprets rock ‘n’ roll in their own way and Nasty Mondays is our way for of interpreting Sunset Strip on Las Ramblas in Barcelona, hahahhaa. Max: I started getting into rock when I was young. I come from Argentina and Argentina is a rock country. My sister is 3 years older than me and when she put on the radio I always paid attention to what was playing. It was cool.

in Buenos Aires, there was a shopping mall where all the underground scene, skates stores and record shops were. You went down to the shop and chose the record you liked. The record shop guy recorded it on a cassette with a black and white photocopy of the cover, those were the days. It was seriously hard work to find out about the stuff you liked, and this made you feel more identified and defend to death the music you loved, which in my case was skate punk. 3. Which were the first bands that you started to listen to? S: Motley Crue, Dio, AC / DC, Maiden, Poison and a hell of a lotta Judas Priest ... M: The first rock bands I fell in love with were The Clash and The Ramones, when I was around 10 years. Man they gave me goosebumps! 4. How did you meet? M: We met in Barcelona, Soren was running a skateboard shop where I would shop for old school Vans that no one else sold, they were not as fashionable as they are today haha 5. How did you come up with the idea of Nasty Mondays? S: By chance, by a third person who is no longer with us ... Cancer unfairly took him from us. R.I.P Hueso. 6. Did you imagine how big it would become? M: We never did this for money or success, the fakes that came after us have this particular problem ;) This began as an adventure for us to have fun and it has become what it is today. I always say “go for it with everything you’ve got”. If, in your case, you wanna do it to be famous or cool that’s how it will go for you! S: Ain’t that the truth… I’m surprised to this day. I’ve always said, “rock ‘n’roll is like pizza, it never gets old and never will die”, something that reassures me. 7. Where does your passion for collecting vintage items come from? S: I’ve always been a bit of a Diogenes (I collected cans picked up in small campsites when I was a kid). I have collected stuff since I was a child, I even have parallel collections. I guess I do it for nostalgia and a yearning for the past. Or maybe because I find the romantic and admirable part in all these objects, that part that people can’t see and appreciate. An easy example is with pinball machines. I have 12 and they are the ultimate expression of art and illustration, with millions of details, sounds and lights. M: I was very young when I started working in vintage clothing stores and it has always been my passion, especially clothing and skateboards. It’s a love for the things we grew up with and that still represent us these days. 8. What comes to mind when you think about eleven years of Nasty Mondays? S: Excesses, Swedish girls, lost plane tickets, girlfriends and fucked up relationships, success, haters that eventually become fans... M: Ehhhh, if I try to remember, I won’t have any neurons left! BULLET CLUB OCHOYMEDIO CLUB Ocho Y Medio (Madrid) Ocho Y Medio club es la fiestas más importante de Madrid en lo que a la escena indie-rockera se refiere, tras 15 años en la cresta de la ola. Su ubicación se encuentra en la calle Barceló n11, en pleno centro de la capital. Por su escenario ha pasado la flor y nata de artistas nacionales e internacionales y es una de las salas por donde Rock Nights pasa cada año con su tour. Sin duda uno de los lugares a tener en cuenta a la hora de escuchar un poco de “guitarreo” mezclado con remixes e indietrónica a altas horas de la madrugada. Sus djs residentes son Smart (todo un clásico de la noche madrileña y un asiduo de las mejores cabinas del país), Dj Manazas (imprescindible en cualquier “sarao” indie), Luiliminili y Zaza dj. 1.Hola Smart, háblanos un poco de quien formáis el equipo Ochoymedio. Pues los artífices de esto y los que iremos de nuevo a vuestra fiestas somos Luis G Morais (Luiliminili), Belén Chanes (Dj Manazas) y yo mismo, David Pardo (Smart). Nosotros mismos somos 3 de los 4 Ochoymedio Djs, o sea los residentes del club. El otro es Zaza. Luego detrás hay un magnífico equipo que trabaja con nosotros. 2. Son 15 años ya de vida del club, imaginabais esto? Nunca lo habríamos imaginado. Empezó casi de casualidad y mira donde hemos llegado. Nos lo dicen en el 2000 y no nos lo habríamos creído. 3.Cual crees que ha sido la formula? Crear algo que en aquel momento no existía y luego habernos sabido ir adaptando a los tiempos sin perder la esencia. 4.Se encuentra Ochoymedio en el mejor momento de su historia? Eso es algo personal de cada uno. Ten en cuenta que por nuestros club ya han pasado varias generaciones. Seguramente para cada uno el mejor momento sea distinto pero eso es ley de vida. Lo que sí está claro es que ahora mismo es cuando tenemos programación más potente, mejor sala, más público y mayor repercusión. 5.Ochoymedio se ha hecho siempre en la misma sala o ha pasado por alguna otra? Empezamos en la ya mítica y desaparecida sala Flamingo. Allí estuvimos los 11 primero años hasta que la sala fue comprada por una importante empresa textil. Ahora en breve cumpliremos 5 años en la sala But y estamos encantados. 6.Que tal la experiencia en vuestras actuaciones en alguna de las fiestas Rock Nights en Ibiza? Genial. Es una locura que cuando le contamos a gente que no ha estado nos cuesta explicar. Tanto por localización como por decoración, ambiente... Algo único que mola muchísimo. 7. Ochoymedio Club is one of the most important indie rock parties in Madrid, with 15 years of amazing parties under their belts. It is located on Calle Barcelo 11, in the heart of the capital. The ‘crème de la crème’ of national & international DJs have graced its stage, and it is one of the stops on the Rock Nights Tour every year. It’s definitely one of the places go to if you wanna listen to guitars and indietronica until the sun comes up. The resident DJs are Smart (a Madrid nightlife institution and a regular in some of the best DJ booths in the country), Dj Manazas (essential in any indie soiree), Luiliminili and Zaza dj. 1. Hi Smart, tell us a little about who forms the Ochoymedio team. The architects of Ochoymedio are: Luis G Morais (Luiliminili), Belén Chanes (DJ Manazas) and myself, David Pardo (Smart). We make up three out of the four Ochoymedio DJs, the residents of the club. The fourth DJ is Zaza. We also have a magnificent team that works with us. 2. The club has now been running for 15 years, did you imagine it would last this long? We didn’t imagine this in our wildest dreams. It began almost by chance and now look how far we have come. If you had told us in 2000 that the club would still be going, we would not have believed you. 3. What has been the secret of its success? To create something that did not exist at that moment and then managing to adapt to the times without losing its essence. 4. Is Ochoymedio in the best moment of its history? It’s up to each person to form his or her own opinion about that. Please note that our club has now gone through several phases. Each person will surely have a different opinion about what is or was the best moment, but that’s life. However, what is now clear is that we have superb line-ups, a better club, a bigger crowd and a huge impact on Madrid’s nightlife. 5. Where else have you held Ochoymedio apart from its present home (Sala But)? We started in the legendary and now defunct Flamingo club. We were there for 11 years, until a major textile company bought the club. We have been in Sala But for 5 years now and we are delighted to be there. 6. Have you enjoyed playing in the Rock Nights parties? The parties are fantastic! It’s difficult to explain to people what it is like if they haven’t been there. Crazy! The place, the decoration, the atmosphere... something so unique that you can’ help falling in love with it. 7. Thanks Smart! We wish you all 15 more years of Ochoymedio club!!! Thanks, I hope so. Bullet Club (Valencia) Bullet Club nace en 2014 en la ciudad de Valencia de la mano de Chuck y Mutan, que también son los djs residentes de la fiesta. Fiesta que en tan solo dos años se ha convertido en una de las fiestas punteras que programa una de las salas más importantes de la capital levantina como es La3. Desde su inicios, los chicos de Bullet Club han tratado de mantener el espíritu intacto con el que comenzaron a dar sus primeros pasos en el mundo del rock. Surferos, skaters, apasionados de la moda y el estilo de vida punk crean hasta sus propios carteles para no dejar escapar ni un solo detalle. También regentan una de las tiendas más importantes de Valencia en lo que a cultura urbana se refiere. En sus fiestas no faltan los hits del indie, rock o punk, todo esto con el fin de hacerte vibrar como si de un concierto de tu banda favorita se tratara... 1. Como surgió la idea de montar Bullet club? Iniciamos Bullet Club sin pensarlo, por pura diversión. Por aquel entonces nuestro amigo Luis Donat tenía una fiesta y nos invitó una noche a pinchar en ella y allí que fuimos!! Con todos los discos de rock qué teníamos en casa!! Lo pasamos genial aquella noche y nos preguntamos “¿por qué no todos los meses?” Y así comenzó todo. 2. Que requisitos indispensables pensais que tiene que tener una fiesta de rock para triunfar? El exito??, no buscarlo jajaja. Para que una fiesta de Rock funcione tiene que ser real y no vender algo que no eres. Nosotros sabemos que hay que trabajar en cosas distintas a las que el concepto clubbing trabaja, implicar más al publico dándole protagonismo, eso es fundamental. Como sí de un concierto se tratase, hacerles cantar las canciones, que las bailen hasta morir... Eso es Rock and Roll! 3. Que bandas fueron las primeras en ocupar vuestros walkman? Nuestras primeras bandas siempre estuvieron muy relacionadas con todo nuestro entorno, nos criamos en la calle patinando. Circle Jerks, Ramones, The Clash, Green- day, Suicidal Tendencies, Loquillo, Joy division, The sonics, Jane Is Addiction... podriamos no parar jajaja!!! 4. Quienes son los djs residentes de Bullet Club? Chuck y Mutan son los encargados de hacer de la pista una autentica fiesta, derrochan carisma y energía en todas sus sesiones, dos showmans en toda regla.

The two resident DJs of Bullet Club, Chuck and Mutan, started this party in Valencia in 2014. In just over two years it has become one of the leading parties in the most important club in the city – La3. Since its inception, the Bullet Club boys have kept the same spirit that they had when they began to take their first steps into the world of rock. How did the you come up with the idea of Bullet club? Bullet Club started without thinking, just for fun. Our friend Luis Donat had a party one night and invited us to DJ and voila!! We played with all rock records we had at home. We had a blast that night and we asked ourselves “why don’t we do this every month?” And that’s how it started. 2. What essentials do you need to make a rock party succeed? What do you need to succeed? Don’t look success! For a rock party to work ithas to be real and not sell something you’re not. We know that we have to work on things that different from the ‘traditional clubbing concept’ with a fundamental aspect making the crowd the star. As if it were a concert, getting them to sing the songs and dance to death ... That’s Rock and Roll! 3. Who were the first bands on your Walkman? The first bands we listened to have hugely influenced us, we grew up as skateboarders. Circle Jerks, Ramones, The Clash, Green Day, Suicidal Tendencies, Loquillo, Joy Division, The Sonics, Jane’s Addiction… if we continue we won’t be able to stop!!! 4. Who are the resident DJ’s in Bullet Club? Chuck and Mutan are responsible for turning the dancefloor into a real kick-ass party, their sets are full of energy and charisma. They are, for sure, two showmen in the making.

EL FABULOSO Fabuloso (Madrid) El Fabuloso Bar, Coconut y El Fabuloso Club en la sala El Sol son las marcas creadas para los amantes de Rock&Roll y la cultura vintage por Silvia Súperstar (embajadora por excelencia del rock español) y Edu por las Noches en Madrid. El Fabuloso Bar, está situado en la calle Estrella n3 de Madrid, lugar ideal para comenzar la noche o tomarte unas copas escuchando la sesión de algún apasionado del Rock&Roll. Ya sea en la parte de arriba o en la de abajo, la decoración está cuidada hasta el más mínimo detalle, muebles y objetos vintage y un pequeño escenario donde bandas de rock locales hacen bailar al público que cada día acude a mover el esqueleto. Coconut se encuentra en la calle San Roque n14, muy cerca de su hermano mayor, El Fabuloso Bar. Su decoración es totalmente de estilo hawaiano y sus camareras visten con uniformes típicos americanos, lo cual hace que en cuanto uno atraviesa sus puertas tiene la impresión de estar en la década de los 50. Un buen batido, unas tortitas o unos buenos nachos con una cervezas frías, o un buen cocktail son algunas de las cosas que puedes tomar escuchando Rock&Roll del bueno. El Fabuloso Club se realiza cada viernes por la noche en la sala El Sol (calle Jardines n3, Madrid) y fue creado para acercar el rock a la cultura club de Madrid. Todos los viernes por la noche la sala El Sol se disfraza de Fabuloso Club. Locura, descontrol y muy buena música son algunos de los ingredientes de un cocktail explosivo en forma de súper fiesta. Silvia Súperstar se encarga junto al dj invitado de poner el Rock&Roll al servicio de los que quieren llegar reventados a casa después de haberlo dado todo en Fabuloso Club. Colin Peters, Lola Von Dage, Jack The Reaper, Difenders Djs o Fat Gordon son algunos de los artistas invitados que acompañan a Silvia Súperstar cada viernes. Silvia y yo vivíamos cerca del local (fabuloso bar) y lo veíamos siempre cerrado, habíamos intentado llamar al número del cartel de la inmobiliaria y a los propietarios pero nadie respondía, hasta que un día vimos la persiana abierta, entramos y allí estaba vanesa, la propietaria. Le comentamos la idea y todo fluyó bastante. Silvia y yo hablamos de cómo darle forma y aquí estamos!! 2. A quien de los dos se le ocurrio el nombre de el fabuloso? Y el de coconut? Silvia fue la que puso los dos nombres de los locales. 3. El fabuloso fue vuestro primer bar? En realidad no, yo había tenido dos bares anteriormente. Uno en Ponferrada así rollo castizo y otro en palencia que fue muy bien la verdad. 4. Quien se ha encargado de la decoracion del fabuloso y de coconut bar? Claramente Silvia, ella fue y es la que se encarga de ello. Quien conozca a Silvia y entre en uno de nuestros bares se dará cuenta de que la decoración pertenece al mundo Silvia Súperstar. 5. El fabuloso club se ha convertido en un lugar preferente de la noche madrileña, fue asi desde el principio? Más que fabuloso club yo creo que fue todo en general, cuando abrimos el fabuloso aquello se convirtió rápidamente en un fenómeno social que nadie quería perderse. Gracias a muchos factores, pero sobre todo al peso y el empuje que tiene Silvia en este mundo. Así que, después del éxito de el fabuloso con fabuloso club fue coser y cantar. 6. Tell us how everything got started Me and Silvia lived close to the place which is now Fabuloso Bar. It was always closed, and we tried calling the number that was on the estate agent’s board that was hanging in the window but no one ever picked up. One day when we walked past the bar we saw that a door was open and when we walked in we met Vanesa, the owner. We told her our idea and from there we converted it into reality! 2. Whose idea was it to name your 2 bars El Fabuloso and Coconut? It was Silvia’s idea 3. Was El Fabuloso your first bar? Not really, I had 2 bars previously. One in Ponferrada and one in Palencia. 4. Who was in charge of decorating El Fabuloso Bar and Coconut Bar? Silvia of course! If you know Silvia and have entered into one of our bars it’s obvious that the decoration belongs to the World of Silvia Superstar. 5. El Fabuloso Club has become one of the top spots in Madrid´s nightlife. Did it start this way? Everything took off so fast that our heads span! When we opened El Fabuloso Bar it rapidly became a social phenomenon that nobody wanted to miss. Many things contribute to its success but it’s mainly due to Silvia’s hard work and attention to detail. The bar became such a big hit that opening El Fabuloso Club was a piece of cake. 6. En 2011, los promotores de Ibiza Rocks se quedaron al cargo de la icónica institución Pikes, nombrado así originalmente por su fundador y leyenda de la fiesta Tony Pike. Tony transformó una granja de 500 años en un santuario legendario y patio de juegos para las estrellas. Color and Aroma

Flamingos Vintage Kilo was created by Dani Flamingos, A.K.A Daniel Martinez. A native of Barcelona, Dani saw that he could create a business within the vintage clothing market after travelling to places such as Berlin, New York and Los Angeles seven years ago. He decided to start importing American vintage clothes to Spain and sell them by the kilo. A pair of second-hand Levi’s 501, for example, could cost you around 10 euros when weighed in his shop. Dani opened his first shop in a tiny place located in Malasaña, one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Madrid. This shop would turn out to be the first of many. After a short while he moved to Ibiza where he opened another shop. Barcelona was his next objective and here he managed to open his third shop on Calle Lleó. However, Flamingos Vintage Kilo really took off when Dani was able to open shops with bigger dimensions. Add the fact that he also had new suppliers and the success of the shops was guaranteed. Dani now has 18 shops and counting across Spain, importing thousands of kilos of clothes each week from the United States. The clothes arrive in containers and are rapidly dispersed through the shops to the wardrobes of the customers. Trainers, leather goods, Hawaiian shirts, bikinis, baseball shirts, jeans and countless other items can be found in any of the Flamingos Vintage Kilo shops.

Flamingos Vintage Kilo nació de la mano de Daniel Martinez o “Dani Flamingos” como se le conoce popularmente. Natural de Barcelona, Dani vio negocio en el mundo de la ropa vintage hace ya casi 7 años después de viajar a lugares como Berlín, Nueva York o Los Ángeles. Fue entonces cuando decidió importar ropa americana vintage hacia nuestro país y venderla por kilos. Y es que, cuando eliges tus prendas son pesadas para saber su precio, unos Levi’s de segunda mano por ejemplo, pueden costar alrededor de 10e. Su primera tienda Flamingos se ubicó en Malasaña, uno de los barrios más populares de Madrid. Fue en un modesto local donde comenzó esta andadura y el primer negocio de muchos. Al poco tiempo se trasladó a la isla de Ibiza y aquí consiguió abrir un nuevo local. Su Barcelona natal fue su siguiente objetivo, una pequeña tienda en la calle Lleó fue la tercera de sus tiendas. Pero el despegue llegó cuando pudo abrir un local con mayores dimensiones, que gracias a su espacio y nuevos proveedores, el alcance pudo ser mucho mayor. En este momento, el numero de tiendas repartidas por todo el territorio nacional es de 18 y la cosa sigue creciendo, importando semanalmente miles de kilos de ropa que llega desde Estados Unidos en grandes contenedores y que en pocos días estarán en el armario de cualquier amante de la ropa vintage. Zapatillas, ropa de cuero, camisas hawainas, bikinis, camisetas de base ball, vaqueros y un sin fin de artículos son los que uno puede encontrar en cualquiera de las tiendas Flamingos Vintage Kilo. Pero no acaba aquí la historia, a Dani no solo se ha conformado con abrir 22 tiendas si no que, además, ha montado su propio espacio para que jóvenes diseñadores muestren sus propios diseños. Flamingos Gallery, un espacio de 600m2 para que cada uno muestre sus inquietudes dentro del mundo de la moda. También ha abierto una tienda de discos (Flamingos Records) donde se pueden adquirir discos en vinilo por un euro!. A continuación Dani Flamíngos nos cuenta los secretos que le han llevado a lo más alto dentro del mundo de la moda vintage en España. 1. Hola Dani, como se te ocurrió vender la ropa por kilos? Se me ocurrió vender al peso porque es el método

de venta al que yo compraba la mercancía al mayor en USA. Lo complicado fue encontrar el equilibrio entre libras-dólares a euros - kilos y además tener margen de beneficio. Pero Eso ya esta mas que establecido después de 7 años. 2. Que fue lo que realmente te animó a lanzarte al mercado de ropa vintage? Lo que me animó a meterme en este negocio fue mi primera visita a USA con 21 años, fui para 2 meses y me quedé casi 1 año. Allí me enamoré de muchas cosas y entre ellas el vintage. Siempre pensaba, si soy capaz de llevarme todo esto a España lo vendo en 2 días.. Y no estaba mal encaminado. 3. Que lazos te unen con Ibiza? Ibiza es para mi toda mi juventud, hice 5 temporadas y no se cual fue la mejor de ellas. Sin duda la época más divertida de mi vida, ahora me obligo a sacar tiempo y por lo menos ir 3 veces cada verano con mi familia. Eso si mucho mas tranquilo. 4. Eres un amante del rock y la moda retro, tiene eso algo que ver a la hora de la elección de tu negocio? Sin duda, la música, la moda, el cine... Todo ha influido en mi pasión por el vintage, creo que soy muy afortunado trabajando en lo que más me gusta, cada día me resulta emocionante y 14h de trabajo pueden parecer 4. Amo mi negocio. 5.Tienes pensado montar tiendas fuera de España? Estamos metidos en un proyecto muy grande hace años que anunciaremos a final de este verano y tenemos varias ofertas para montar tiendas en el extranjero. Sin duda es el futuro. 6. Habéis colaborado en alguna fiesta Rock Nights, crees que la moda retro-vintage y el rock&roll son conceptos totalmente unidos? Yo creo que si!!! De hecho, Flamingos es puro Rock And Roll, estamos vinculados con Rock Nights hace años porque somos de la misma pasta. Dios los cría y ellos se juntan se suele decir.. 7. Sabemos que en breve te casas en Ibiza, por qué has elegido la isla para un acontecimiento tan importante en tu vida? Ibiza nos unió hace ya muchos años, una auténtica historia de amor al más puro estilo canción de Loquillo, “Qué hace una mujer como tú en un sitio como este” Y no se me ocurre mejor sitio para celebrarlo que el Hotel Santos. 8. Hi Dani, how did you come up with the idea of selling clothes by the kilo? I came up with the idea to sell the clothes by weight because it is the way I buy clothes wholesale in the USA. It was complicated to find the equilibrium between sterling, dollars and euros, as well as trying to obtain the profit margin. Seven years later there is a better balance between the currencies. 2. What encouraged you start up in the vintage clothing market? What really got me started in this business was my

first visit to the U.S.A when I was 21. I went there initially for 2 months and I ended up staying for almost a year. I fell in love with many things including vintage. I thought, “If I could take all this back with me to Spain, I would sell it in 2 days”… and I wasn´t mistaken. 3. What ties you to Ibiza? I spent my entire youth in Ibiza. I was there for 5 seasons there and each season was memorable. It was, without doubt, the most fun period of my life. Nowadays I make time and go there at least 3 times each summer with my family. Nowadays I’m way more chilled there. 4. How did rock music and retro fashion influence you when you chose your business? There is no doubt that music; fashion and cinema have influenced my passion for vintage. I think I’m very lucky to have a job that I love doing. Every day is exciting and after working for 14 hours I feel like I have worked for just 4 hours. I love my business. 5. Are you planning to set up shops outside of Spain? We are involved in a very big project and we will announce what it is later this summer. We also have several offers to open shops overseas. Opening shops abroad is the future. 6. Having collaborated with several Rock Nights parties, do you think that retro / vintage fashion and rock & roll are joined at the hip? I definitely think so!!! Flamingos is pure rock ´n´ roll and we share this connection with Rock Nights because we are cut from the same cloth. “Birds of a feather flock together” as they say. 7. We know that you’ll be getting married in Ibiza soon, why have you chosen the island for such an important event in your life? We met in Ibiza many years ago and it was a true love story, reminiscent of when Loquillo sang, “What is a woman like you doing in a place like this”. se encuentra en la Plaza del Mercado Viejo número 10 de Ibiza. Estudio abierto desde 1991 de la mano de Neil, que llegó desde Inglaterra como muchos otros buscando en Ibiza otro modo de vida. En la actualidad son cuatro los tatuadores que trabajan en este estudio, uno de los más prestigiosos de la isla. Neil, el propietario, es uno de los artistas que tatúan en Inkadelic. INK HEART IBIZA

se encuentra en una de las arterias principales de la ciudad de Ibiza, la avenida Ignacio Wallis. Uno de los locales de la new wave de estudios tattoo y tatuadores en Ibiza, está abierto desde el año 2015. Oliver es su propietario, natural de Barcelona pero viviendo una larga temporada ya en Ibiza, nos comenta que el buen rollo que se respira en el local es “por que ante todo, somos colegas todos los que estamos aquí y así es mucho más fácil trabajar” Decorado con muy buen gusto por lo vintage, se ha convertido en lugar de referencia en Ibiza para los que buscan un buen tattoo. Contrary to what the vast majority of people may think, Ibiza, has breathed, breathes and will always breathe rock & roll. Beyond clubbers, luxuries and other discotheque paraphernalia, the white island has always nurtured the greatest: Freddie Mercury, James Taylor, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Phil Lynott, George Michael, as well as national heroes like Loquillo, Coque Malla or Julio Iglesias. Today, between the chambers of repetitive beats, there are several holdouts that refuse to die and that, year after year, grow by leaps and bounds.

DEMIEDO

Al contrario de lo que la gran mayoría de personas ajenas a la realidad puedan pensar, Ibiza, ha respirado, respira y respirará siempre rock & roll. Más allá de clubbers, lujos y demás parafernalia discotequera, la isla blanca siempre se ha nutrido de los más grandes: Freddy Mercury, James Taylor, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Phil Lynott, George Michael o de héroes nacionales como Loqui-llo, Coque Malla o Julio Iglesias. A día de hoy, de entre todo el caos del ‘chumba-chumba’, sobrevi-ven varios reductos que se resisten a morir y que, año tras año, crecen a pasos agigantados. El primero de todos se encuentra justo al final de un pequeño callejón de La Marina, en el puerto de Ibiza, al que se llega después de esquivar de manera titánica a decenas de tiqueteros que van a la caza de los más débiles. Un pequeño oasis de rock & roll con más de 20 años de historia: el De-miedo. De sus cuatro paredes han salido algunas de las mejores bandas de la isla -sí, también hay música en directoy se han graduado con honores los mejores disck jockeys locales. De hecho, la gran mayoría de Djs que forman parte de la familia de Rock Nights han pasado por su mítica cabi-na: Marcos Torres, Javi Box, Lost Angeles, Lola Von Dage o, incluso, el mismo que suscribe estas líneas. Capitaneado por los incombustibles Pep y Henry, no hay noche que en sus altavoces no suenen canciones de los Rolling Stones, The Black Crowes, Stray Cats, The Strokes o David Bo-wie. Más alejado de la capital, justo en el kilometro 7,7 de la carretera que une Ibiza con Sant Josep, se encuentra la tienda-bar Can Jordi o, para los más puristas, Can Jordi Blues Station. Un refugio que, casi sin querer, se ha convertido en el centro neurálgico de la bohemia musical isleña. Famoso es su licor de Frígola o sus fabulosas empanadas de carne caseras, siempre acompañadas del mejor blues y rock en directo de bandas como Uncle Sal, The Frigolos o The Station Hollers. Ben Howard haciendo parada técnica an-tes de pasar por casa de los abuelos -guitarra en mano, claro está- o, como dicen los rumores, al mismísimo Robert Plant tomando un cortado -sí, has leído bien-. Pero nada de esto sería lo mismo sin Vicent ‘The Shopkeeper’ Marí. Alma y espíritu del lugar que, con mucha pasión y trabajo, ha conseguido lo inimaginable: conseguir que todo el mundo se pelee por tocar en su porche. Y digo locura, porque ya van 11 años de conciertos únicos, como el que protagonizaron el año pasado The Libertines, con un Pete Doherty en estado de gracia, o el de Madness en 2014, que consiguieron el éxtasis total y la simbiosis perfecta entre británicos e ibicencos.

Our first holdout is situated in a small alley in La Marina, in the port of Ibiza. After running the gauntlet of ticket sellers and pests trying to get you to drink in their bar, you will reach a small rock ‘n’ roll oasis with more than 20 years of history called Demiedo. Its four walls have given birth to some of the best bands on the island, and some of the finest local DJs have graduated from here with honours. In fact, the vast majority of DJs who are part of the family of Rock Nights have passed through its mythical DJ booth: Marcos Torres, Javi Box, Lost Angeles, Lola Von Dage, as well as the same person writing these lines. This musical battleship is captained by Pep & Henry and there’s not one night where its speakers don’t blast out The Rolling Stones, The Black Crowes, The Stray Cats, The Strokes or David Bowie. Further from the capital, on Kilometre 7.7 of the Ibiza to Sant Josep road, you’ll find the shop / bar known as Can Jordi, A.K.A Can Jordi Blues Station for the purists. A refuge that has, almost inadvertently, become the nerve centre for the musical bohemians on the island. It’s famous for its Frígola liquor and fabulous homemade meat pies, always accompanied by the best live blues and rock bands like Uncle Sal, The Frigolos or The Station Hollers. Y aún nos quedaría hablar de las ‘benditas’ Rock Nights que se celebran cada miércoles en el Pikes (realmente hace falta que diga lo grandiosas que son?), de todas las bandas locales (que no son pocas) y de Adrián Rodriguez y su festival ‘Sueños de Libertad’ (lo mejor que le ha podido pa-sar a la isla en años). Casi nada. Pero todo eso, lo dejaremos para los próximos capítulos. Por el momento, seguiremos resistiendo y luchando por cumplir nuestros sueños a ritmo de rock & roll. Y para terminar, suscribo al gran Vicent Marí, que un día dijo: “Si en el mundo hubiera más rockabilly todo iría mucho mejor”. O lo que es lo mismo, si pudiéramos cambiar las guitarras y ‘Ses Olive-res’ por las discotecas y el cemento, estoy seguro de que los isleños seríamos mucho más felices.

pit stop before going to his grandparents house, guitar in hand. Legend has it that Robert Plant popped in for a small coffee as well. But none of this would be the same without Vicent ‘The Shopkeeper’ Marí, the heart and soul of the place. Through hard work and passion he has achieved the unthinkable: making his porch one of the most desirable places to play in town. Taking a walk on the wild side, we find Ibiza Rocks Bar, previously Bar M, where back in the day we discovered Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs or Juliette Lewis… the starting gun for what is now known as Ibiza Rocks, one of the most important British indie pop rock venues in the world. 2016 marks 11 years of phenomenal concerts, such as last years 10th anniversary concert by The Libertines with Pete Doherty in a state of grace. This year sees the return of The Kaiser Chiefs and current sensations, The 1975. Their second album has achieved a very difficult feat of achieving a simultaneous number one album the UK and US. (something that neither Oasis, Blur or the Arctic Monkeys have ever achieved). And we still have to talk about Pikes (oh, blessed Pikes!), numerous local bands and Adrian Rodriguez and his festival ‘Dreams of Freedom’ (the best thing that has happened on the island in years). However, we’ll leave that for the next chapter. For now, we will continue resisting and fighting to achieve our rock ‘n’ roll dreams. Finally, I’d like to quote the great Vicent Marí, who once said: ‘If the world had more rockabilly everything would be much better’. I’d like to include ‘If we could change the clubs and cement for guitars and ‘Ses Oliveres’ I’m sure the islanders would be much happier’

Cuando deseas que algo llegue ¡Ya! parece que el tiempo se pone en tu contra para que nunca llegue ese esperado momento, pero cuando llega el “día” el tiempo vuela y de golpe te quedas parado y te dices a ti mismo ¿Ya? Hay una canción de Depedro que dice así “Ahí te encontré, un héroe de otoño, un soñador entre los locos”. Así me he sentido en mi querida isla durante más de once meses de duro trabajo, no un héroe, más bien “Un soñador en un mundo de locos” los que me conocen ya saben de lo que hablo. Me ha costado más que sudor llegar a ese momento captado por la cámara. Mi gente sabe lo que hemos tenido que pasar a lo largo de estos meses, las dificultades que hemos sufrido para poder compartir este sueño con todos vosotros. Hay una pregunta que me hace mucha gente ¿Tu a que te dedicas? ¿y eso es un trabajo?. Pues sí, llevo muchos años trabajando, luchando y perdiendo dinero por una idea y un sueño. Me han jodido, y me han vuelto a joder, pero no se qué coño tengo en mi cabeza y en mi corazón que cuando más dificultades me ponen más me pongo (nunca mejor dicho). Siempre he dicho que hay dos tipos de personas en el mundo, los que hacen las cosas con amor y las que no. Quizás parece una tontería, pero no lo es, no lo es… Han pasado unas semanas y lo único que siento en mi interior son ganas de seguir luchando por la tercera edición de este cuento llamado “Sueños de Libertad”. Fueron dos días mágicos, llenos de emociones, donde se consiguió volver a sentir el verdadero ambiente de la isla. Por mi parte solo puedo dar las gracias a todos y a los que me han ayudado a sacar este proyecto hacia delante, un sueño que no hace mucho estaba en la basura y que sin su ayuda no hubiera sido posible. Tengo la suerte de rodearme de buenas almas y me siento feliz solo de saber que están ahí. Mencionar a cada una de esas personas puede ser peligroso, no me quiero olvidar de nadie, así que prefiero tomar una caña con ellos y disfrutar de ese momento.

Doesn’t time go by slowly when you’re waiting for something to happen? When that moment finally arrives, time suddenly flies and you stop and say to yourself “ALREADY?” One of the lyrics in a song by Depedro says “There I found you, an autumn hero, a dreamer among madmen”. I felt like this on my beloved island during more than eleven months of hard work, not as a hero, rather “a dreamer in a mad world”. Those who know me know what I mean. It took more than sweat to reach that moment that was caught on camera. We went through a lot during these months, experiencing many difficulties to share this dream with you. Many people ask me “What do you do?” “That’s what you call a job?” Well yes, I have been working for many years, struggling and losing money for an idea and a dream. They have fucked me over, again and again. I don’t know what the hell I have in my head and heart but the more they try to stop me, the more I fight. I’ve always said that there are two kinds of people in this world, those who do things with love and those that don’t. Maybe that seems silly, but it isn´t, it isn´t ... I’m eager to continue fighting for the third edition of this story called “Dreams of Freedom” (Sueños de Libertad)”. They were two magical, emotional days, where people got to feel the real atmosphere of the island. I would like to thank everyone who have helped me to take this project forward because it was a dream that was broken not so long ago. It would not have been possible without their help. I am fortunate to be surrounded by good souls and I’m happy knowing they are there. Mentioning each of these people would be dangerous as I don’t want to forget anyone, so I’d prefer to have a beer with them instead. TRUE ROCKS

True Rocks es una colaboración creada por Emily Bradley, desde la marca de punk victoriano ‘Constant and True’ y Dawn Hindle, fundadora y directora creativa de la marca de música y el estilo de vida, ‘Ibiza Rocks’. 1. Hola Dawn, ¿puedes decirnos un poco sobre cómo se inició True Rocks? Conocí a Emily cuando su marido John Bradbury tocó para nosotros con su banda ‘The Specials”. Nos llevamos bien desde principio, en realidad no tenía otra opción porque ella me vió en el restaurante Sa Capella y dijo ‘eh tu, ven aqui y te sientas a mi lado “. Nos juntamos por amor a los imperdibles, , el punk, la moda. Hemos logrado crear piezas que la gente quiere y desea llevar a diario. Inicialmente diseñamos para nosotras mismas y en muchos aspectos todavía lo hacemos. Ser propietaria de Ibiza Rocks me mantiene al día musicalmente y en contacto directo con los artistas que están tocando cada semana. El diseño es una pasión que ambas compartimos y ser un arquitecto formado nos ayuda, es el aprendizaje de diseño más redondeado que se puede aplicar a través de muchas áreas del diseño. Siento que la belleza está en los detalles y en la sencillez también. Vamos a remuestrear continuamente hasta el último detalle. 3. ¿Cuáles son las piezas claves de la firma de la línea de True Rocks? Pastillas, imperdibles y galletas. Unisex, piezas

de gran peso en plata maciza y placas de oro; piezas con actitud para ser llevadas con confianza. Colaboración con artistas en ediciones limitadas también son muy importantes para nuestra identidad como marca. Trabajar con artistas como Gavin Turk, Rory Dobner y Polly Morgan para crear versiones ponibles de su arte es algo que vamos a seguir ampliando. Nos estamos preparando para ir a las tiendas de Damian Hurst – “Other Criteria” que es un paso emocionante.

4. ¿Hay alguna famoso que ha llevado joyeria deTrue Rocks? Desde Kate Moss a Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, Lily Allen, Idris Elba, Ellie Goulding, Junior Sánchez, Mark Ronson y grupos como Rudimental. La cobertura de la prensa ha sido mejor de lo esperado, en revistas como Vogue, Grazia, Sunday Times Style y más allá… Realmente no podríamos haber soñado con que las piezas tuvieran una aceptacion tan incredible. 5) Emily y Dawn parecen una pareja ideal. ¿Cuál es el secreto de su éxito? 100% creencia y el amor por lo que hacemos y la passion. La gente ve esto, la sienten y quieren ser parte de ella ... tener un gran producto ayuda también!

6. ¿Que planes tiene True Rocks para este verano? Se venden las piezas en Pikes Hotel y estamos encantadas tener las piezas también en Santos Dorado y Tropicana para este verano. Nuestra estética Rock ‘n’ Roll es una combinación perfecta. Nuevas piezas como las de la”Disco Ball Pineapple” y “Crab Claws” van a ser nuestros platos fuertes para la temporada de verano y nos encanta el peso de “Anchor”, que es un homenaje a Amy Winehouse y una pieza ideal para el verano. Tenemos pop ups planificadas y queremos grabar un breve vídeo en Ibiza con Harleymoon Kemp, una especie de video promocional de strip tease en una habitación de Pikes Hotel.

True Rocks is a collaboration created by Emily Bradley, from the Victorian Punk label ‘Constant and True’ and Dawn Hindle, Founder & Creative Director of the music and lifestyle brand, ‘Ibiza Rocks’. With influences from art, fashion and music, particularly punk-rock, the edgy designs include safety pin necklaces and the notorious ‘Rich Tea Bitten Biscuit’ necklace. Today we are going to be speaking with Dawn about the creation of this innovative jewelry brand. 1. Hi Dawn, can you tell us a bit about how True Rocks got started? I met Emily when her husband John Bradbury played for us with his band ‘The Specials’. We hit if off immediately, I actually had no choice as she saw me in the restaurant Sa Capella and said ‘Hey you come sit next to me”. We bonded over a love of safety pins, punk, fashion and similar lifestyles. We have managed to create pieces that peoples love and want to wear daily. Often unprecious but beautiful objects that are made to be multi layered and don’t look out of place with the owners own classic pieces. More is more is part of our ethos and love strong statement pieces.

2. As Creative Director and Founder of Ibiza Rocks, what do you bring to the True Rocks brand? We are both creating pieces we love and want to wear. Initially we designed for ourselves and in many ways still do. Owning Ibiza Rocks gives me a finger on the pulse musically and direct contact to the artists that are performing each week. Design is a passion we both share and being a trained Architect helps too. Architecture can be applied across many design areas. Beauty and simplicity are in the details. We will continuously resample until every last detail is right.

The press coverage has been incredible with articles in Vogue, Grazia, Sunday Times Style and beyond. We couldn’t have dreamt that the pieces would have such an incredible pick up and response. 5. Emily and you seem like a match made in heaven. What’s the secret of your success? 100% belief and love for what we do and passion, people see this, feel it and want to be part of it… having a great product helps too!

6. What is True Rocks planning for this summer? We are already stocked in Pikes Hotel and this year we are really excited to be stocked in Santos, Dorado and Tropicana Hotels as well. Our Rock’n’Roll aesthetic is a perfect match. New pieces such as Disco Ball Pineapple and Crab Claws are going to be strong for this summer season. We love the feel and weight of Anchor, which is a homage to Amy Winehouse and a perfect summer piece. We have pop ups planned and aim to shoot a short video in Ibiza with Harleymoon Kemp a sort of strip tease video promo in a Pikes hotel room.
