The Rock Valley Children’s Choirs, under the direction of Leah Baskin, is a performing and education choral organization established in 2002 with one small choir on the RVC campus. The program has grown to four separate choruses, “Do-Re-Mi Singers” for grades 1 through 3; “Music Makers Chorus” for grades 4 through 8; “Crescendo (formerly Master Singers) Choir,” an audition-based choir for grades 6 through 8, and “Encore” for grades 9 through 12 (see detailed description for Encore in CE-Adult section). The choir has sung in concert with the Rock Valley Chorale, performed at the Coronado Theater, toured at regional libraries and museums, sung for the opening of a Smithsonian Institute exhibition, participated in youth choral festivals, and performed for public and private civic groups in the Rock Valley College tri-county area. In 2006 the Rock Valley Children’s Choir formed a partnership with the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center. Each week Leah Baskin, the choir’s director brings a variety of learning experiences and styles to the children’s rehearsals. Weekly rehearsals and optional monthly Saturday workshops provide many occasions for children to grow, both as singers and as responsible citizens. The choir runs throughout the school year with registration and tuition payments done each semester.

This choir performs two concerts during each semester along with the older choirs. Sessions are designed to help students become better musicians (and have fun!). Two concerts and other smaller performance options are part of each semester’s presentations. Bring $10 material fee payable to Mendelssohn at first class. Final concert date: December 13. Register at first class 9/6-12/13 Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00 pm MENDELSSOHN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER 415 N.
