All Hands on Deck!

ANNUALREPORT

By: Peter M. Branch, Head of School Rocky Hill School is pleased to acknowledge the generosity of our community in this 2013-2014 Annual Report. The pages that follow document the support the School received from hundreds of individuals, businesses, and foundations who collectively committed $619,475 in cash contributions, in-kind gifts, event support, and pledges to the School. Our alumni, families, and friends took to heart our motto for the year, All Hands on Deck, and came out in high numbers to support the School financially and as volunteers. We started the year with an amazing show of support from our Board of Trustees who pledged $105,000 in matching funds, in addition to maintaining their 2012-2013 Annual Fund support, to inspire donors to increase their gifts from last year. All donors who made a first time gift, or doubled/increased their gift from 201213, were matched at some level. Our community responded! The average gift size for alumni climbed from $159

to $491 and for parents the average gift went from $1,253 to $1,660. The full $105,000 challenge was met. Thank you! In 2013-14 we also saw a renewed commitment to our environmental programs on campus. We received funding from Whole Foods Market to support the Garden Classroom. The National Science Foundation funded a cooperative field study and curriculum development partnership between our Middle School and the University of Rhode Island around studying the invasive species phragmites, which is abundant at our waterfront. The family of alumnus Lu Eldredge ’54 made a gift in his honor to fund the restoration of the Land of Fires Nature Trail which was established on campus in the late 1990s. The refurbished trail is nearly complete and incorporates QR code technology to bring the trail to life. Each site marker includes a unique code that takes students to web pages that explain the biodiversity and natural history of the location. And finally, alumnus

Stu Flanagan ’05 helped the School secure funding to install solar panels on the roof of the Alan F. Flynn, Jr. Academic Center. His company donated its time and services as well, and the project was up and running by August 2014! Similar to all independent schools, we depend on the generosity of our constituents to ensure we can provide the best educational experiences for our students. Whether you support the School through financial contributions, volunteer time, or in-kind donations, each investment you make in the life of the School directly impacts our students. The extraordinary acts of kindness and generosity outlined above and within this report are a testament to the value we all place on a Rocky Hill School education. Each year, our outstanding faculty mentor hundreds of students and prepare them for a successful future. Thank you for making Rocky Hill School a priority in your philanthropic and volunteer commitments.
