This project represents the fourth attempt to develop the property, with past plans to build medical faciliites and a church on the land never coming to fruition. Oakmont currently operates 40 other facilities in the state of California and plans to expand to Oxnard, Camarillo, Agoura Hills, and Simi Valley in the coming months.
Amazon opening facility in Newbury Park 5-Star Theatricals, a theater company based at the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks, has begun hosting musical theater classes for children. Two courses, one for kids 8-13 years old, and one for kids 12-18 years old, will be held once a week through December. The classes will focus on teaching fundamental skills and will include guest instruction by professional actors, directors, and casting directors.
Assisted living project approved in Moorpark Oakmont Senior Living has received approval from the Moorpark City Council to build an assisted living center at 13960 Peach Hill Road. The building will be a two-story structure containing 70 single-bed units and 7 two-bed units and will feature amenities
E-commerce giant Amazon has leased space at the Conejo Spectrum business park with the intention of opening a fulfillment center on the Newbury Park site. Although details remain under wraps, the facility consists of nine buildings, ranging between 37,000 and 99,000 square feet, and the broker for the property indicates that two of the buildings were recently leased. Seattle-based Amazon employs approximately 550,000 people around the world and had been advertising open fulfillment positions in the Conejo Valley in recent weeks. No timeline for opening the new location has been announced.
Community News Local biotech startup sells drug portfolio Thousand Oaks-based startup AliveGen Inc. has sold their portfolio of drug candidates to the Massachusetts-based company Biogen in a deal that could be valued at $562 million. AliveGen will receive $27.5 million upfront with additional payouts following various development milestones. The portfolio includes two drugs that target myostatin, a naturally occurring protein that inhibits muscle growth. By restricting the myostatin pathway, the scientists hope to develop a treatment for people inflicted by muscular wasting diseases such as muscular dystrophy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The first AliveGen drug is currently in a Phase1a clinical trial, while the other drug is in a preclinical stage.
Construction begins on Camarillo conference center A long-awaited conference center is now under construction in Camarillo. Located near the Camarillo Premium Outlets, the Mian Plaza and Conference Center will capitalize on the region’s business travel, as well as offer space for academic conferences for local universities. The complex will include two suite-based hotels, a restaurant, and a 650-space parking lot.
WLV shopping center sold for $35 million The North Ranch Gateway shopping center, at 30805-30895 Thousand Oaks Blvd., was recently sold for $35 million. The 86,520 square foot complex was 74% occupied at the time of the deal and includes tenants such as T.J. Maxx, Bank of America, and Dunkin Donuts. The new owners, the Florida-based Sterling Organization, is a real estate investment firm that also owns retail space in Beverly Hills, Huntington Park, and Garden Grove.

The featured exhibition at the Broad is a collection of works that focus on the passage of time, dealing with themes such as nostalgia and decay. The exhibition features film and video pieces as well as paintings, sculpture, and photos, and 40 of the 55 works are on display at the Broad for the first time. The exhibition is on display in the Broad’s first floor galleries and is included with regular admission to the museum.
Icons of Style focuses on the transcendence of functional fashion photography into great works of art, beginning with the pioneering work of Edward Steichen in early years of the 20th century, through the influential photos of Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, and Herb Ritts. The exhibit features over 160 photos, as well as a sampling of costumes, illustrations and magazine covers.
