Community News Golden State Killer arrest reopens local cases
Teledyne acquires 2 government contracts Following the recent arrest in Northern California of the alleged Golden State Killer, local police have begun to re-evaluate decades-old cases to see if they can be linked to the newly-identified suspect. Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, is suspected of committing dozens of crimes in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, including 3 cases in Goleta, 1 case in Ventura, and 3 cases in Orange County. DeAngelo’s DNA has already been used to clear him of a Simi Valley case from 1978.
Bike path to connect Canoga Park with Griffith Park Plans have been announced to build a bike path along the Los Angeles River, connecting Canoga Park with Griffith Park. The 12-mile path will begin at Vanalden Ave. and run to the intersection of Forest Lawn Dr. and Zoo Dr., connecting with four smaller parks along the way. The revitalization of the Los Angeles River has been an ongoing project for several years, with particular focus given to developing green space near downtown Los Angeles. Extending the project into the San Fernando Valley will offer residents increased access to the river and the recreation opportunities that come with it. The bike path project is currently under review by city officials, but construction is expected to begin in 2020.
Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies has had two recent successes with government contracts. Their Teledyne Brown Engineering subsidiary was awarded a $79.6 million contract to design and build target missiles that are to be used in testing advanced missile defense systems. Meanwhile, Teledyne e2v, a manufacturer of image sensors that was acquired last year, was awarded the second phase of a $47 million contract from the European Space Agency to build visible light image sensors for an exploratory spacecraft scheduled to launch in 2026. The sensors will detect minute changes in the brightness of stars as they are orbited by planets.
Community News Former Amgen campus sells for $22.9 million
Beauty company opens division in Calabasas
Conejo Corporate Campus, a former home of local biotech giant Amgen, was recently sold for $22.9 million. Located at 2380-2400 Conejo Spectrum Drive in Newbury Park, the campus consists of two buildings on 11.4 acres of land, offering approximately 200,000 square feet of office space. The property is currently 55% leased. Amgen occupied the space from 2003 to 2011. The campus was purchased jointly by Blue Vista Capital Management and Harbor Associates LLC. Harbor Associates is already a presence in the area, having previously purchased the Think Here campus in Thousand Oaks. Rather than seeking a single, large tenant, the new owners will be reconfiguring the buildings to appeal to smaller corporate tenants, primarily companies looking to lease 8,000-10,000 square feet of space.
Coty Inc., an international beauty product manufacturer based in New York City, recently opened the headquarters for their salon and professional division in Calabasas. The facility will consolidate the company’s previous operations from Woodland Hills and North Hollywood into a single location. Among the brands centered at the new location are OPI nail polish, Wella Professional hair color products, Good Hair Day (ghd) flat irons, and Sebastian Professional hair styling products.
