Community News New L.A. River park coming to Reseda

A new 1.6-acre park will soon open in Reseda, at the confluence of the Los Angeles River and Caballero Creek. Located on Lindley Ave., between Victory Blvd. and Erwin St., the bow-shaped parcel will feature a picnic area, a jogging path, and a wetlands area that can be utilized by biology classes from nearby Reseda High School. The revitalization of the Los Angeles River has been moving into the Valley in recent months, with various government agencies collaborating to tear out the concrete banks and replace them with terraces of natural, green space. The new Reseda park is expected to be completed by spring 2019.

Valley colleges partner with Amazon for cloud classes

Four community colleges in the San Fernando Valley --Glendale College, Los Angeles Pierce College, Los Angeles

Valley College, and Los Angeles Mission College --- have partnered with Amazon to train students for careers in cloud computing, a fast-growing industry that is expected to reach $159 billion by 2020. Amazon, the online retail giant, operates Amazon Web Services, a cloud computing platform that provides companies with decentralized data services with fewer infrastructure requirements. AWS controls approximately 34% of the cloud computing market share, about 3 times as much as their next-highest competitor, Microsoft.

Sunland-Tujunga apartments sold for $9M

A 38-unit apartment complex in the Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood has sold for a $9.15 million, a record sale for the area. The property, located at 8608 Foothill Blvd., is a 36,858 square foot structure, giving the deal a $248.25 per square foot rate. The sellers indicate that they received multiple offers from 45 interested buyers, owing to the Sunland-Tujunga area having some of the lowest vacancy rates in the San Fernando Valley.


Community News Chatsworth residents sentenced for mortgage fraud scam

Three members of a Chatsworth family were recently sentenced for running a mortgage fraud scheme that preyed upon homeowners who were struggling to pay their mortgages. Dorothy Matsuba, Thomas Matsuba, and Jamie Matsuba --- a mother, father, and daughter, respectively --- received prison sentences ranging from 11 to 20 years. The Matsuba family operated companies called Ownership Management Service and Trust Holding Service that offered assistance to distressed homeowners but then used their properties to commit mortgage fraud. The Matsubas were convicted of wire fraud, identity theft, and making false statements to federally insured banks as part of the scheme. Three other participants in the scam await sentencing, while a seventh, Dorothy Matsuba’s brother Young Park, is a fugitive.

Small lot homes under construction in Valley Glen An expansive residential project in Valley Glen is currently under construction. Located at the intersection of Victory Blvd. and Atoll Ave., the development is named The Glen LA, and will include 63 three-story residences divided

into 4 and 5 unit structures. The layout of the development stretches to either side of Atoll and

also features a bisecting private street called Lumina Way. The individual units come with either 3 or 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, and a rooftop deck. Construction on The Glen LA began in Fall 2016, with units becoming available for purchase in 2017. The project is expected to be completed by 2019.

Brady Bunch house listed for sale It’s not often that a simple 3 bedroom house in the Valley makes international news. But when that house was the exterior location for the iconic The Brady Bunch show, and it is listed for sale for the first time since 1973, it’s sure to garner some attention. Located at 11222 Dilling St. in North Hollywood, “The Brady Bunch House” is a ranch style single family residence includes 2 master suites, 3 baths, and 2,477 square feet of living space. Asking price for the famous house was just under 1.9 million, but reports are that an offer from the HGTV network has already been accepted.

A BBQ bar in North Hollywood has transformed into Muddle & Twist. This revamped space offers barbecue fare and cocktails. On the menu there’s a selection of Kansas City-style barbecue like brisket, ribs, pulled chicken, and pork. You can also find a selection of appetizers, salads, and entrees like tacos, hillbilly fries with chees, and burgers. The sides range from sweet potato fries to baked potatoes and mac and cheese. To drink, try the signature berry-infused cocktail The Muddle or the Adam & Eve with rum, muddled pineapples and champagne. Their full-service bar also has a total of 18 beer taps and some craft.

If you’re going to fill yourself up with raw fish, it better be quality. In North Hollywood, The Sushi by Jin has an allyou-can-eat-deal that will satisfy you! Here you can test the elasticity of your stomach with three rounds of all-youcan-eat sushi for one hour. Don’t worry about quick¬ly filling up since you won’t find the sushi rolls loaded with rice. You can also maximize your fish intake by ordering the “no rice” rolls. Keep in mind with your last plate though because you will be charged regular price for any leftover items.

Icons of Style: A Century of Fashion Photography, 1911-2011 June 26 – October 21, 2018

The featured exhibition at the Broad is a collection of works that focus on the passage of time, dealing with themes such as nostalgia and decay. The exhibition features film and video pieces as well as paintings, sculpture, and photos, and 40 of the 55 works are on display at the Broad for the first time. The exhibition is on display in the Broad’s first floor galleries and is included with regular admission to the museum.

Icons of Style focuses on the transcendence of functional fashion photography into great works of art, beginning with the pioneering work of Edward Steichen in early years of the 20th century, through the influential photos of Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, and Herb Ritts. The exhibit features over 160 photos, as well as a sampling of costumes, illustrations and magazine covers.
