Community News Valley officials resist flight path changes at Burbank Airport
Politicians representing the San Fernando Valley have sent letters of protest to the Federal Aviation Administration in response to the agency’s plan to change flight paths out of the Hollywood Burbank Airport. Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer, City Councilman Paul Krekorian and U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman have each taken issue with the proposed changes to how aircraft leave what is officially named the Bob Hope Airport. The FAA plans to direct aircraft to make turns while over the 101 freeway, instead of the current location over the Santa Monica mountains, utilizing a new system of satellite-guided flight paths. The local officials claim that changing flight patterns would unnecessarily increase aircraft noise, particularly in canyon areas around Sherman Oaks and Studio City.
