play against the Angels with his new team the Cincinnati Reds. On this visit, there was much more than baseball on his. Even though he no longer plays for his former LA team, a part of his heart is still here. That what lead to his recent work on opening a community house in the San Fernando Valley for kids and their families called Puig House. The proposed plan will offer recreational activities for baseball and other sports along with learning services to help children in school. Puig hopes to open more community homes like this one around the United States, but wanted to start in the place that he holds near and dear to his heart.
The Glendale City Council is set to vote on a new set of laws in September that would restrict Airbnb rentals in the area. This comes after a unanimous approval from the city’s Planning Commission on the new set of ordinances which aims to reduce the usage of short-term rentals for parties. Under the new law, short term stays in which the owner is not present or stays over 180 days per year will be prohibited. Residents seeking to rent out a room would need to receive landlord approval, registration with the city and pay a transient occupancy tax. Currently the city has no regulations on short-term rentals with this new law following the regulations set forth in Los Angeles this month. Other areas like West Hollywood and Santa Monica have seen positive impact on types of Airbnb usage as a result of their own set of restrictions.

The Broad is hosting this special exhibit of artwork by AfricanAmerican artists who were active during the civil rights and black power movements of the 1960’s and 1970’s, and into the early years of the conservative Reagan administration. LA artists Charles White, Betye Saar, and William T. Williams are among the 60 artists whose work is featured. The exhibition is organized by Tate Modern and presented locally by Art + Practice, a Leimert Park-based organization.
This exhibition explores the convergence of two powerful threads of American pop culture, baseball and music. Focused on songs written about the game, and how music is played in stadiums, the exhibit features sheet music, handwritten lyrics, and even the microphone that Harry Caray used to sing during the 7th inning stretch.
Celebrating a medium that is often overlooked in other time periods, this exhibit delves into the favored form of portraiture in late 18th century Europe. Pastels allowed the artist to create classically beautiful works without the arduous process that oil painting often requires. This flexibility coincided with the growing class of people who patronized portrait artists, creating a unique body of work that represented both an evolving craft and an evolving society.
