JACKSONVILLE CULINARY SCHOOL Architecture Design Studio IV - Urban Context 10 weeks duration The Culinary School of Jacksonville, commercial and residential apartment units serve as a big attraction for citizens and visitors in this city. The premise of this project is to blend cultural and historic factors of Jacksonville to create a meaningful design for the community. A narrow and long existing site gave this design the opportunity to a
variety of changes
not only programatically but
also functionally, from mass iterations to the completion of the building facade as well as a strong emphasis in the vertical circulation. The midpoint between the Culinary school and the Residential apartments is the Retail area, which serves as one of the most important focal points of this building.

C A T A LY S T Evolo Skyscraper Competition 2 weeks duration By the year 2050, most of the habitable regions of our present world will experience extreme environmental changes that will drastically shape the future of life on earth. With an average increase of only four degrees Celsius, the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S., Mexico and Central America will be uninhabitable due to floods, drought or extreme weather, as well as Asia losing much of its subcontinent. Due to temperature rise, A great amount of coastline lands will be lost due to rising sea levels. With the rise of temperature, a fair percent of Ice Glaciers will melt, giving birth to land that has been untouched for millions of years. Green will grow with the help of reliable precipitation and warmer temperatures, creating ideal shelter conditions for most, or even the entire population to relocate. Our current efforts on sustainability, or the avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance, have little or no chance of stopping the climate change phenomenon that humankind has brought to earth. So the possibility of relocation in Western Antarctica, is one that has to be addressed. The idea of this project is not to salvage Antarctica as we know it, but to provide assistance and guidance for humankind in to accepting our mistakes, and embracing the concept of dark ecology.

PHASE OF HORROR
SITE PLAN
IF WE THINK ABOUT EXTINCTION, WE ARE CATEGORIZING IT AS SOMETHING HORRIBLE, SOMETHING DEPRESSING, A FORM OF GRIEF. THAT IS THE PHASE WE CURRENTLY FIND OURSELVES IN. TRYING TO SAVE SOMETHING THAT WE THINK EXISTS, BUT WE DON’T REALLY UNDERSTAND. SUSTAINABILITY IMPLIES THAT ALL THINGS ARE ABLE TO REMAIN CONSTANTLY PRESENT, BUT HOW CAN WE TRY AND CONTROL SOMETHING SO COMPLEX, SO EPHEMERAL, THAT WE CAN’T EVEN CATEGORIZE. IS A FOREST STILL A FOREST IF WE CHOP DOWN A SINGLE TREE? WHAT IF WE CHOP MANY TREES AND LEAVE ONLY TWO STANDING? IS IT STILL CONSIDERED A FOREST? OR WE MIGHT AS WELL BUILD HOUSES AROUND IT AND IT WILL HAVE THE SAME EFFECT AS THIS “FOREST”. THE PHASE OF HORROR WE CURRENTLY FIND OURSELVES IN IS THE ANXIETY/URGE TO SAVE NATURE AS WE KNOW IT OR AS WE HAVE OBJECTIFIED IT, TRYING TO ULTIMATELY AVOID THE INEVITABLE PHASE OF DARKNESS.

STAGE I IN THE 21ST CENTURY, ICE AND SNOW CAN LAYER UP TO 1.609 METERS THICK. WATER COLLECTION AND TREATMENT. THIS OCCURS WITHIN THIS ICE LAYER, REPRESENTING A STARTING POINT TO THE ICE MELTING PROCESS AND THE PHASE OF HORROR.
DARKNESS HAVE TO BE DEPRESSION? WHY CAN’T IT BE WEIRD? TO THE EXTENT THAT IT GETS SO RIDICULOUS IT MAKES YOU SMILE. SMILE FOR THE FACT THAT WE ARE ALIVE, WE ARE STRANGE, AND WE ARE AS REAL AS A SENTENCE OR AS AN ACTION. WHATEVER IS HERE RIGHT NOW MIGHT NOT BE THE

SAME TOMORROW, OR MIGHT NOT BE HERE IN TEN YEARS. ARCHITECTURE, OR THIS BUILDING TO BE PRECISE, WILL REMIND PEOPLE THAT LIFE IS A PARADOX, AND THAT THINGS CAN BE DESIGNED TO SERVE A PURPOSE, BUT WITH TIME THIS PURPOSE CAN EVENTUALLY MORPH INTO A FEELING, AND THIS FEELING CAN LATER BECOME A THOUGHT, THE THOUGHT THAT WE ARE HERE NOW, AND WE MIGHT AS WELL ENJOY IT.
STAGE III THE END OF THE MELTING PROCESS NOW TAKES PLACE, EFFORTS TO COLLECT MOST WATER HAVE BECOME SECONDARY, NOW ITS TIME FOR THE EXTRACTION OF MODULES AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW LIFE IN THE ANTARCTICA. AS THE BASE IS COMPLETELY UNVIELED, IT SERVES AS CENTRAL INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE EXPANDED COMMUNITIES.

FEREASTRA Architecure Design Studio II - Site and Environmental Context 10 weeks duration
“FEREASTRA” is the Romanian word for Window, which in this design, represents the new opportunity, opportunity, the the opening opening and and the the arrival arrival for new experiences within a building. Located at one of the most visited sites in Sinaia, this Transit Station serves both as a facility to transfer passenger coming in and out the city and also a place to admire the great views that this site has to offer. The design development and the concept of the window combine to create a footprint and masses that optimize both the site views and also natural light. The moment that passengers call the “transition” from the Sinaia Transit Station to other parts of the world is briefly represented in a transition of a three story building of both a strict, but also an experiential and entertaining program

La Paz, Bolivia. This Residence is located in La Bolivia. In one of the many residential neighborhoods of the city, this house is a three story building which is configured with social and gathering spaces on the lower levels and more private spaces on the upper levels. This design sits on top of a sloped hill in the mountanous city of La Paz, taking the priority of recieving lots of sunlight due to the very low temperatures that this city has. Cerruto clients wanted a house where they can spend most of their social time and take full advantage of their newborn kids, as well as having a master bedroom that fit their commodity and need. This is a very welcoming environment, surrounded by tall trees and the beauty of the city’s incredible sighseeing.
