Roedean Symposium
11
Introduction The Summer of 2021 offers endless opportunities in the UK. Being able to see friends in person again. The ability to go to a live music festival. Fantastic weather. Well, possibly not a guarantee of fantastic weather. With the upheaval to the normal process of examinations in 2020-21, the Summer term of 2021 affords the opportunity for something different to take place at Roedean. As well as summer evenings and afternoons by the beach, or on the sports pitch, there is space to reflect, explore new ideas, develop a deeper understanding of the subjects you love, and get to know other students.

Roedean Symposium Symposium (definition) Convivial discussion, especially as held in ancient Greece after a banquet Whilst we may not be able to provide the banquet just yet, the Roedean Symposium will most certainly offer ‘convivial discussion’: the opportunity to discuss your subjects, and related topics, in depth with senior students at Roedean. This will provide you with an unrivalled opportunity to prepare for your university courses. The Symposium will consist of a range of keynote speaker according to the four Roedean Pathways: • • • •
STEM Business, Economics and Enterprise Society Creative and Performance Arts
In addition, there will be a time for students to present 10-minute research papers in breakout rooms, followed by a Q&A session. As well as a mind that has been broadened through discussion and the contemplation of the views of others, if you attend all three weeks of the Roedean Symposium you will receive a certificate of participation. More information about the Symposium will be shared in due course.
