WELCOME “The 13th Romanian Film Festival in London is entitled TOGETHER AND APART. This is a phrase which may describe the relationship between two partners as they twist and twirl through the intimate movements of a dance. The phrase may also speak to the condition of the Romanian diaspora, divided by distance, united by history and family ties. Most powerfully, though, the phrase hints at the relationship between nationalities, you and me, separated by time and space, but bound together by our fears and hopes for the future. Now in its 13th year, the RFF has become a fixture in the glittering array of film events located in London. Since its inception, it has been a unique outlet for Romanian film makers as they built a dialogue about

the nature of post-Communist Europe, at the same time offering British audiences access to the world of Romanian history, politics, and society. During this year, 2016, the RFF echoes with the issues which have been sweeping through Europe in recent years – the self-realisation of minorities, the problems of constructing civil society, and the rights of the individual versus the state. In this way, the RFF stands as a record of its own history, a history of the times in which it flourishes, as well as a record of individual lives and stories.” Ramona Mitrica Mike Phillips Profusion directors

This riveting, unconventional morality play revolves around the Anghelescus: family patriarch and obstetrician Victor and his four adult children. When Victor’s activist daughter discovers that her father informed on women seeking illegal abortions under Ceausescu’s regime, the revelation sends the already dysfunctional family into a scandalous downward spiral. Fast-paced and superbly acted, Illegitimate is a compelling family drama which blurs the lines between conviction and hypocrisy.

When we started publishing under the name Profusion, our aim was to bring aspects of East European literary culture, hitherto unknown in Britain, to the attention of the reading public. This was because most publications from the region were, more or less, “highbrow”, while popular stories and genres such as crime fiction tended to go unnoticed. Our list of books and authors is therefore a factor in increasing knowledge throughout Europe about the life and prospects of ordinary men and women in the region.

Report on the State of Loneliness ISBN-13: 978-0956867643

“Report on the State of Loneliness” marks a concluding moment in Augustin Buzura’s great series of novels about the Central European social and political landscape. He explores, without reserve, over more

than 70 years, its clashes of nationalisms, its cruelty and militaristic savagery, its loves and romantic fantasies, its peasant transformations, its desperate longing for European significance, and much, much more. All this is seen through the eyes of individuals, naïve and sophisticated, ignorant and learned, spiritually pure and downright evil. (Mike Phillips - Introduction)
