Before entering the country at airports, visitors are required to fill out embarkation/disembarkation forms. These must be filled out before entering the immigration line, where a passport must be presented. These forms are provided by the airline. For most visitors, a passport along with a Tourist Card is required to enter the Dominican Republic. For a list of countries that can enter the Domincan Republic with a tourist card or visa, please see the Entry Requirements section on the www.GoDominicanRepublic.com Web site. For countries that need a visa, contact your closest Dominican Republic consulate or visit www.serex.gov.do. However, any person, no matter their nationality, can enter the Dominican Republic with a Tourist Card (not a visa) if they are legal residents or if they have one of the following valid visas in the passport:

United States, Canada, United Kingdom or Schengen.

In addition to the tourist card, visitors are required to

pay a US$20 departure tax at the airport upon departure

(This is generally included in the cost of a regular airline ticket,

but some charters do not include it, please check with your

10 percent service charges).

Traveling with Children

Requirements for minors (foreigners) in the Dominican Republic :

At the moment of departure from the Dominican Republic,

the same person that they arrived. This can be proved by using

airline tickets, airport or port of entry and the number stamped

in the passport, etc.

If the minor will not leave the Dominican Republic with the

same people that arrived or with both of the parents or legal

tutors, they will need an authorization (consular declaration)

legalized by the Dominican Republic consulate closest to the

country of residence of the parents.

Travelers visiting the Dominican Republic are advised to drink bottled water. Because of the strength of the Caribbean sun, it is recommended that vacationers drink water throughout the day to avoid dehydration. It is essential for travelers to the Dominican Republic to pack sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher, again, due to the strength of the Caribbean sun. In addition, for those traveling to wildlife area, mosquito repellent is strongly recommended. Should a medical emergency occur during a stay most hotels and resorts have on-site medical care. In addition, emergency rooms are found throughout the country. Dial 911 for medical and safety emergencies. Getting married in paradise:

Submit the following paperwork before the Oficialía del Estado Civil (Civil Registry Office) for the preparation of your marriage certificate. Note that you may send photocopies in advance and bring the original with you: • Original passport with photocopy of the front page with the latest entries into the country. • Sworn declaration before a notary public of being single and eligible to marry, this is also known as a single status affidavit. • Birth Certificate(s) • Divorce Certificate(s) when applicable • Two or more witnesses, each with a copy of their identification card. Relatives cannot be witnesses. Legal transcripts of the birth certificates, single status affidavit and divorce certificate are usually prepared at the Dominican Consulate in the country where the documents were issued. For detailed information visit: www.GoDominicanRepublic.com The honeymoon

One of the big advantages of marrying at a resort is that you can honeymoon right there. If you will be at a resort in the South, take time out to visit Santo Domingo, the first city in the New World. Have pictures of the two of you strolling through the 16th century Colonial City, an area dripping with romance. Visit the Alcazar where Diego Columbus courted his newly arrived bride, Maria de Toledo. The cobble-stone streets and yellow lamplight will inspire old-fashioned romance. In Santo Domingo, choose from one of the large chain hotels or a smaller colonial city hotel. Enjoy the Plaza de España in the Colonial Zone or the discos in city hotels or residential areas, as well as the many gourmet restaurants, cafes and bars. For serenity-seeking honeymooners, choose a small private hotel far away from the all-inclusive party atmosphere. How about a small mountain enclave in Jarabacoa, a guest house in Playa Grande or Las Galeras beach, Samana? Still stumped about which direction to take? Then make it a split decision - spend a week in the South or the East and a week in the North. Some destinations are only 3 or 4 hours apart so you won’t waste a whole day travelling. After all, it’s your honeymoon; make it memorable!

Religious Ceremonies

For those who like the idea of getting married in a tropical setting

but still want a religious ceremony, it is possible to arrange a

church wedding in the Dominican Republic. Since a church

wedding needs more formalities than a civil service, the bride

and groom must go slightly beyond the civil wedding

requirements. Many hotels have experience with church

weddings but a Dominican wedding specialist will be able to

better assist the couple through the formalities.
