Baaijens House This one bedroom house was designed in conjunction with the client - an artist who studied architecture in his youth. The main priorities for the design were small footprint, small cost, while creating something architecturally special. The design of the building was heavily influenced by the steep little site - the roof mainly corresponds to the sunlight access plane. With this restriction we decided to blur the boundaries between wall and roof which helped create a ‘cosie’ interior - the site doesn’t receive a lot of sunlight. Windows were strategically placed to act as frames to the beautiful native bush surroundings. The shell of the building is made of thick concrete, plastered white. The interior joinery is all made of plywood to contrast the thick walls and a reference to the predominately natural context.

Dental Clinic This was designed in conjunction with John Wright at Wright and Gray architects. The new dental clinic replaces and expands the existing Clinic. With a limit of natural light into the existing building, a focus was to compensate this by playing with varying forms, materials, and textures to please the eye. Natural stone and timbers are used throughout to help create a sense of tactility. The clinic moves away from traditional dental clinic design - various pieces of art are on display throughout the new fitout helping take away any anxieties associated with dental work. The pieces of art form an integral part of the design.
