In that time, trends have come and gone, technologies and fabrics have changed, and we’ve evolved alongside the world of outdoor adventure. But through it all, we’ve remained committed to creating durable, functional, and stylish clothing that stands up to the elements - just like we did when we first started in 1972.
Our journey began with a simple yet revolutionary product: a pair of lightweight, quick-drying, windproof salopettes designed for the rigours of mountaineering and trekking. At a time when outdoor clothing was often bulky, heavy, and impractical, we saw an opportunity to do things differently. We set out to create clothing that offered maximum performance with minimal fuss. Later we introduced the Rohan Bags, a pair of trousers that quickly gained a reputation for their versatility, functionality, and durability.
As time went on, we continued to innovate, embracing new fabrics
and technologies that helped our products perform even better. In the 1980s, we introduced trousers made with technical synthetic fibres, which offered superior breathability, moisture-wicking properties, and lightweight insulation. Our commitment to innovation saw us push the boundaries of what outdoor clothing could achieve, without sacrificing our core principles of simplicity and practicality.

Drop-Liner Technology Explained 30
Waterproof trousers are a crucial part of outdoor gear. Whether you’re hiking, cycling, or simply commuting, these trousers protect you against rain, mud, snow, and other environmental elements. It’s common to see hikers and outdoor enthusiasts wearing waterproof overtrousers to protect against wet weather, but there’s another solution: Drop-Liner technology.
Using a Drop-Liner membrane allows us to create fully waterproof and windproof trousers, that look and feel just like normal leg wear. Featuring a hidden layer of protection placed between the outer fabric and the interior lining, unlike traditional waterproof coatings applied directly to the surface, drop-liners are designed to be a standalone barrier that prevents water from reaching the skin. This design allows the outer material to be more breathable, as it doesn’t rely on a solid coating for waterproofing.
Made from our waterproof Barricade Standard breathable membrane, the drop-liner blocks water molecules while allowing vapour (sweat) to escape. This is crucial for maintaining comfort, especially during physically demanding activities. By keeping moisture out while allowing ventilation, these trousers prevent the clammy, overheated feeling that often comes with less technical waterproof gear.
