Introduction
As announced in 2020, Mumbai is one of 15 global cities to be selected for the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS). Under this initiative, Bloomberg Philanthropies will support Mumbai for a period of 6 years (2020-2025) on key road safety initiatives, spanning best practice policies, excellence in road safety data systems, speed management, infrastructure designed to protect vulnerable road users, innovation or best practice in road safety enforcement, vehicle safety, etc.
WRI Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities is one of the partner organizations in this initiative, focusing on the areas of Safer Streets and Safer Mobility. WRI Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities will support the 15 BIGRS cities, which includes Mumbai, to enhance safety through better road engineering and improved public transit, nonmotorized transport and overall mobility.

In January 2020, WRI and representatives from the G/South ward of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) inspected the Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Street and Lala Lajpat Rai Street in Worli area of Mumbai to understand the road safety risks along the road and at the intersections. WRI is responsible for providing the technical inputs to the project. This Report documents the findings and recommendations from inspection of the above mentioned roads.
